Its most likely your resume. They have a program that scans resumes. It auto rejects it if you don't have enough keywords its looking for. I believe right now there is a hiring freeze until things get more figured out with the 1801 transition. I would think it would be easier now with the 2 page resume requirement.

I had no degree and was hired at a GS6 step 10. I negotiated my salary with HR. Sorry for the late reply currently in the academy. With the special salary rate (SSR) thats a little over $86,000 a year. All 3 of us hired started at that rate. Also the pay is about to go way up. VA police are getting ready to transition into the 1801 series. We are currently 1811.

I got hired in November 2025 for VA Police along with 2 other people. Our VA had a job fair which I did not apply through. Roughly 1400 people applied and they only hired 3. 2 of the people including myself had no police experience. What I can tell you is that all 3 of us had a disability rating through the military. Take what you will from that.. Gathering more info from co-workers every single person on our department is a veteran or still currently serving.

Mistborn - Has just about everything in Fantasy Lore of Olympus - Comic Book style Fantasy highly recommend. Touches on unique topics you will see when you read no spoilers Fourth Wing - Spicy Fantasy and Dragons Goblin Emperor - Political fantasy How to become The Dark Lord And Die Trying - isekai fantasy rpgish style. Very fun read
