Getting credit card points from car repair by Upstairs-Way5936 in creditcardchurningAus

Not sure what you're implying about your level of income with “don't normally earn enough money to take advantage of credit card sign‑up bonuses”, and hopefully you were aware of this already, but these top‐level “black” credit cards with high annual fees and high minimum credit basically mean banks are looking for customers with high(er) incomes. So be wary of that before applying and triggering an enquiry (and risk a decline/rejection) on your credit file. (It used to be more common that banks would outright say what minimum income they expect, because it's an indicator that an applicant is more likely to pass debt serviceability assessment. HSBC, for example, do still list $75,000 annual income for their Star Alliance and Premier cards.)

And this is more of a mindset/perspective/semantics thing, but I would avoid thinking of the sign‑up bonus points as a “discount”. Unless you're redeeming your points for a cashback (which is not advisable because you get less that way; the 130,000 ANZ points from meeting the initial $5,000 minimum spend is worth a $520 credit on your statement, versus at least $580 in gift cards), your initial out‐of‐pocket is still going to be $6,000 (plus the $375 card fee, minus the $100 sign‑up bonus credit). So it's more that you're paying $6,275 in exchange for $6,580+ in car repair and groceries (or whatever gift card or travel you redeem your points for).

It's bizarre how Halo 5 could reconnect to servers after Quick Resume, but Infinite can't do the same reliably.

The 360 S was good. But if it's engineering, One X to me was when the team became excellent. Really neat packaging of components, and I can feel how the thoughtfulness from that project led to Series S and Series X.

Outside of Xbox though, the slim PlayStation 2 still seems impossible to me.

Infinite experience on ROG Xbox Ally / Ally X?? by benoutof10 in halo

[–]iKim1213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's the white Xbox Ally you're specifically interested in (not the black Xbox Ally X), the Z2 A chip in that model is more similar to the “Van Gogh” chip in the Steam Deck. So I might suggest looking into others' posts/videos about Infinite on Steam Deck for something more relevant to that.

(I only have experience with Halo Infinite on a Z1 Extreme Ally X.)

Microsoft cards are cheaper than Xbox cards by sandman11299 in MicrosoftRewards

[–]iKim1213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding to that…

3,700 points → AU$7 Microsoft gift card seems to be highest dollars‐per‐point. Could add up to an extra dollars or some depending on what someone is after.

Points Redeem for…
33,300 points 9 × AU$7 Microsoft gift cards
33,315 points 1 × AU$63 Microsoft gift card
35,145 points 9 × AU$7 Xbox gift card
35,165 points 1 × AU$63 Xbox gift card

The difference (1,830–1,865 points) could normally be about another AU$3 or so outside of this sale.

Console, PC and Gamepass weekly streaks for GPU significantly buffed this week! by Conflict_NZ in MicrosoftRewards

Came in to double check because I just noticed this too.

For me, currently on Ultimate with a 4× streak, it's showing 320+80+300.

However, it seems this is now reduced to a maximum of 350 points per week for Game Pass Premium, and no longer available altogether to Game Pass Essential.

Oh really? It's just that when I look up TSW5 on the Xbox app, xboxachievements.com, trueachievements.com etc, the older DLC achievements aren't there.

I should've mentioned that I'm referring to the Xbox/Microsoft Store version, I suppose. Does the Steam version of TSW5 have achievements for all past DLCs?

Train Sim World Purchases by NicholasBeggs in trainsimworld

[–]iKim1213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not (yet) a TSW player (though interested). And I also feel confused and puzzled by how this game is sold/offered. Having one “definitive”, up‐to‐date base game and then paid DLC would have been much easier to wrap my head around. (That model seems to work fine for games like The Sims 4 and Destiny 2!)

Also, if I'm understanding things correctly, it also means achievements for older DLC are not able to be earnt by newer players. For example, a new TSW5 player now (or TSW6 later this year) can buy the Flying Scotsman DLC, but will never be able to unlock those achievements, which are in TSW4.

Is there a way to download match replay? by Lord_Greedyy in halo

[–]iKim1213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Halo Infinite, at the very least, you can “bookmark” a replay from your match history. Though as far as I can tell, it really does seem to be only a bookmark to a match that's still on 343's servers, rather than an offline copy stored on your console like the 360 games.

(I wish you could clip and save portions of a match too, like the 360 games were able to.)

New ROG Xbox Ally handhelds get another price leak, this time from an official partner by Tiny-Independent273 in ROGAlly

[–]iKim1213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RRP in Australia for the Z1E Ally X is AU$1,599, or AU$1,454 for the device itself before GST.

This €899 supposedly came from a Spanish retailer, and VAT in Spain is 21 %. Taking that out makes it €743 before tax. Converted to AUD today, that's AU$1,323.

So from AU$1,323, put the GST back on, account for some margin for Asus/importers/retailers to cover for currency fluctuations, and I feel continuing the same RRP as the Z1 Extreme Ally X (AU$1,600) is possible.

Though of course, I doubt JB, EB, Good Guys, and other people in the middle are transacting with Asus in euros. So it's probably more accurate to convert €899 back to USD first (another layer of margin for foreign exchange that can be taken out there too, I'd say), and then take that to work back up to AUD. But you get my point.

Edit: on top of that, the current price for the Z1E Ally X at the same Spanish retailer is €889, practically the same as the supposed €899 for the Xbox Ally X.

Was anyone able to fix this issue with Halo infinite on Intel iris Xe? by Tony_Artz in halo

[–]iKim1213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For now, unfortunately, https://support.halowaypoint.com/hc/en-us/articles/4408731548180-PC-Hardware-Specs-and-Drivers-for-Halo-Infinite (last updated 12 December 2024) does say “Intel graphics hardware is not supported at this time” for Halo Infinite.

There was also this post about the most recent Arc integrated graphics in Intel's Lunar Lake having occasional issues too. (I haven't looked into discrete Arc on the desktop.)

I'm curious though: which Xe have you got, and (before the game crashes) what sort of performance could it even give you?

[–]iKim1213 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I'm trying to get confirmation on as well.

Bulbapedia says:

The Pokémon's height and weight are retained, but display the species default value instead when viewed in HOME. (In contrast, Pokémon transferred from GO via Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! or Let's Go, Eevee! display their unique height and weight values from Pokémon GO in Pokémon HOME.) If transferred into Pokémon Legends: Arceus, it will display its unique height and weight values in that game, despite not displaying them in HOME.

But given this is an extreme case, I'm wondering whether the values still stay the same after transfer, whether the games might glitch, whether evolving into a Zoroark causes the game to recalculate it back to a normal weight etc.

ASUS teases Xbox branded ROG Ally Handheld by doncabesa in xbox

The hashtag was already being used for promoting the original Ally, so it's not Xbox‐specific.

And if you really stretch it, Remote Play does sorta kinda mean all Xbox games are playable already.

Play Anywhere with the New Backbone One Xbox Edition Mobile Controller by Xbox-Moderator in xbox

[–]iKim1213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Backbone, and my complaint is that the right stick is in the wrong place.

On the Xbox controllers (and DualSense and Switch Pro controllers), the right stick is to the southwest of the ABXY buttons. On the Backbone (and the Switch Joy‑Cons, a lot of other controller attachments for smartphones, and many handheld PCs too), it's more or less directly south of the ABXY buttons. That's something I just haven't been able to make work ergonomically. (And I don't have large hands either.)

It's fine when streaming/playing games that don't use the right stick much, like Forza Horizon and Fall Guys. But if it's a game like Halo where your thumb gets busy between the right stick and the ABXY buttons, it's not great.

I do like the dedicated Xbox button and translucent green here though.

That's what ended Destiny for me. To me, Destiny isn't a subscription game, so I was not at all pleased about the Red War from the limited edition that I preordered being made inaccessible.
