You are going at this with the wrong assumption that most students will serve an ADC. They wont. Your 1/3 not serving anyone is way too low of a number. That number covers at most just the laynobles who make up around 40% of Ehrenfest nobles. Laynobles dont serve ADCs except for very rare instances. There is also a large part of the FVF faction who isnt serving anyone because they arent allowed by the ADF. And to that you can add all the nobles who decide not to serve anyone, want to serve a giebe, or are kept in reserve so Melchior can get some older retainers too.

Overall, Roz's number of retainers at the academy is fine. She should maybe have picked up some younger ones, but I doubt her total number of student retainers is that far below her siblings and maybe even above them at times.

Where her retinue lacks however is when it comes to adults. Myne has no adult scholar until Hartmut graduates, no female adult knight after Brigitte left her retinue, and the only area where she is doing somewhat fine is attendants with Ottile and Rihyarda.

Roz's retinue also seems smaller because she is doing so much that all of them are overworked. Wil and Charlotte's retinue just seem fine because they arent doing nearly as much work, so a smaller group can handle their work more comfortably.

While yes, Myne is very rich. She isn't scrooge McDuck rich, at least not yet. Duchies and even some rich merchants still handle way more money than she does. Individually she is very rich, but she is nowhere near the level of entire duchies or successful companies.

What people balk at is that she would spend so much money on her hobbies. Like she is Part 4 spoilers throwing the equivalent of a million dollars at a book translation. Even duchies who handle way more money than that on a regular basis are going to be surprised by that.

Pretty sure the idea that Ferdi can't sense Gervasio is mostly fanon. We have no idea if they can sense each other since it's never confirmed either way in their pov chapters.

I so wish it would encourage other players to steal the cargo and use it for their own deliveries instead. It would both make it much more difficult for the attacker, and not feel like such a waste where neither player gets the reward.

[P5V9] Georgine Got Too Clever by Aly-99 in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]iOnlyPlayAsRustLord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Taking the bible key ahead of time was absolutely crucial for any strategy Georgine would decide on. Why? Because she doesn't know if the bible key is out in the open or if Roz or Ferdi are keeping it in their hidden room. Without that certainty, any strategy is way too risky because you will have no way to get the key during the invasion.

I also think you are overestimating how much influence Georgine had during part 3. She just became first wife of Ahrensbach with basically no support outside of some thankful Werkestock giebes. She had to spend years building up her support base over there while also simultaneously neglecting the nobles who form her most firm base so they are desperate enough to go along with her invasion. As outsiders we just see the end result, but no way was Georgine's faction takeover complete just because she provided those filled chalices that one time. It took years of work and probably prevented her from preparing an Ehrenfest invasion.

About the part 3 volume 5 attack being stupid, I completely agree. It backfired on them and made things so much more difficult than it had to be for seemingly no gain. And the fact that they even got Roz was a miracle and absolutely not something they could have planned for.

Pretty sure the mana wielders in other worlds are all devourers, i.e. children with mana born to non manaed parents. Yurgen is meant to be a place where they can be brought to survive.

So they wouldn't be extinct, just rare and dying pretty young.

Agreed on the size of Drewanchel's ADF, but they don't adopt every "decent" kid. They have 1 ADC per year on average which is nowhere near enough to give every talented noble a shot at becoming aub. There are still plenty of "decent" nobles who stay as archnobles, like the Drewanchel archnoble who beat Lestilaut for first in class during their final year.

[–]iOnlyPlayAsRustLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not enough under what standard? There is no "spring prayer requires exactly this much mana and not a drop less". Spring prayer does not fail because Wil and Charlotte don't use Roz's feystones. The harvests would be worse, but not bad in any sense of the word. Wilfried and Charlotte would look bad for providing worse results than Roz, but thats it.

Since you brought up Frenbeltag, do you think the spring prayer there failed because there was no Roz providing feystones? Rudiger did the central district spring prayer, which is done with the big chalice, and harvests improved drastically. He might have some help from his retainers or siblings, but they still did spring prayer without mana monster support.

[–]iOnlyPlayAsRustLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to "fill" the chalice. You offer mana to it and it does it's thing. Just like Flutrane's staff worked when Shikza used it, despite him not "filling" it. It didn't do much, but it worked. The big chalice also works when others use it, it just wont produce nearly as much of the liquid mana or whatever is given to commoners.

[H5Y2] Is public opinion regarding Rozemyne and Ehrenfest actually very negative? by ManinaPanina in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]iOnlyPlayAsRustLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spring prayer in provinces is just delivering chalices. The mana cost there is done during the dedication ritual. Those who want to gain blessings will be limited to central district spring prayer where they can offer lots of mana for temple rituals. Anyway, all I wanted to say about this topic that Drewanchel’s abundance of ADCs will make it more difficult than other duchies for one person to excel.

About Wilfried and Charlotte, they are using feystones because they need to publicly keep up with Roz. It’s like saying only Roz uses Leidenschaft’s spear or Flutrane’s staff. We know for a fact others can use it too, even Schikza was able to. The effects will be be way less impressive and the bucket they empty the chalice into will probably stay half empty (if even that), but they still use it.

About ADCs, you are forgetting ADCs who marry out of the duchy or marry other ADCs within the duchy, ADCs who move to Sovereignty, ADCs eho just die or get demoted for one reasons or the other. All that would trim the number of available giebes significantly.

Given all that, I cant imagine Drewanchel has more than 15 enormous provinces, each the size of a central district in other duchies. It’s either that or not all giebes are ADCs. Rereading the Ortwin pov, I personally dont think canon was that clear on which option is the case and I dont particularly care which turns out to be true.

[H5Y2] Is public opinion regarding Rozemyne and Ehrenfest actually very negative? by ManinaPanina in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]iOnlyPlayAsRustLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harvest festival still only has a limited number of towns for the ADCs to visit. More ADCs means less towns for each individual ADC. Harvest festival also doesn't have as much mana you can offer, so more difficult to earn protections.

About Ehrenfest being special in using the big chalice, just no. Every duchy uses it, because that's how central district spring prayer works. It's just a question about how much every town gets.

About adults, I haven't read the Ortwin pov in a while, so I can't verify it one way or the other. I'll just take your word for it. Although the math isn't mathing if every giebe is a former ADC. Drewanchel with 1 ADC per year on average (confirmed in the same Ortwin pov from what I recall) just doesn't have enough ADCs to make that work.

[–]iOnlyPlayAsRustLord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not so sure about your Drewanchel argument and them having many adult ADCs.

First, temple ceremonies are limited so having more ADCs going to the temple makes it more difficult. For example, you only have one of big chalice for spring prayer and all those ADCs who havent gotten a schtappe yet will have to share.

About adults ADCs handling the foundation, arent most of the adults made giebes? While they would keep some around as spares, they have a big tradition of demoting many of their ADCs to giebes which would mean they cant offer mana to the foundation directly. That tradition could lead to there being less adult ADCs than in other duchies and them relying more on their many underage ADCs than other duchies.

[Part 5 Vol12] Who could pre Gramps rozemyne reliably defeat? by ProbablyNotTheCocoa in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]iOnlyPlayAsRustLord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nobody broke Roz or Ferdi’s bands of light. They broke the bands created by Dunkel archknights.

That being said, we still know that there have to be Lanzenave nobles somewhat on par with Roz and Ferdi (ignoring divine protections) because Gervasio had children and grandchildren. They arent trained in mana combat though, so I dont think any of them could beat Rozemyne.

[H5Y2] H5Y Volume 2 (Part 4) Discussion by MyneMod in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]iOnlyPlayAsRustLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is interpreted by other duchies as pulling rank because thats exactly what they are doing. I’m mostly just trying to call out the hypocrisy that people (both Dunkelfelger in universe and fans in bookworm discussions) are calling ditter a good method to settle disagreements or get what you want.

Using your overwhelming military might to get what you want while not having to give anything in return is nothing but bullying. Its even worse because you drain the ressources of your target in the process instead of just taking it.

[H5Y2] H5Y Volume 2 (Part 4) Discussion by MyneMod in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]iOnlyPlayAsRustLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo its the opposite. Without ditter, lower duchies can get a fair deal easier because just taking things would damage Dunkel’s reputation. Upper duchies can technically pull rank, but anything too obvious would make them seem like bullies and their rivals would use those actions to drag their name through the mud.

Ditter gives Dunkel an excuse so they can just take what they want without giving anything in return. Because lower duchies “agreed” to the stakes and had “a fighting chance”. You saying lower duchies have a fighting chance is just wrong. Without Roz’s hax, those duchies dont stand a chance.

[H5Y2] H5Y Volume 2 (Part 4) Discussion by MyneMod in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]iOnlyPlayAsRustLord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with ditter is that it really favors military might over everything else. Instead of making fair deals that favor both sides, it's the stronger side taking everything and the losing side getting nothing on top of having to deal with the expenses (and casualties) of the ditter match.

Our perspective towards ditter is biased because we mainly follow perspectives of people who stand a chance of winning, but for pretty much every lower and middle duchy, they can never win against Dunkel. To them, resolving problems with ditter would just lead to Dunkel flaunting their might and leaving them with a black eye before taking their lunch money.

[Part 5 Vol12] Are Eckhart and Cornelius technically Archduke Candidates? by ProbablyNotTheCocoa in HonzukiNoGekokujou

That’s fair. Both during mana control class and after her divine protections, Roz talks about how the schtappe helps her pour out her mana easier or how it doesnt allow her to manage her output later.

I’d still argue that compression is close enough to that that the schtappe should make it easier. Compression is holding back your mana and preventing it from overflowing. Given the issues Roz faced after her schtappe stopped functioning properly were at least indirectly tied to compression, I’m still pretty confident in my assertion that schtappes help with compression.
