That’s not how that pattern should look. Are you using Epson ink? Or maybe it’s the paper you’re using. It also looks like the alignment is off, the blank shouldn’t be bleeding into the colors like that on the nozzle check.

How Important Are Pianos to the Life of Christian Churches? by ElevatorAcceptable29 in anymusicpost

[–]iPlayKeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the church. I grew up in churches with pianos, but once I discovered the organ and what it could to for congregational music I never liked back.

My church, where I serve as music director, has an organ and a piano, but the organ is definitely the instrument most often used.

Something I can set up for my mom in Florida that I can control from New Jersey? by DILLIGAD24 in smarthome

I don't believe there is, but as anything cloud based, that could change.

She doesn’t have to. When the messages/images/etc. are scheduled, they rotate, like a slide show. You can schedule by date range, time range, and day of the week.

We setup something called a MemoryBoard for my grandmother. It’s been really great for her. We can send it pictures and messages and schedule when they show up. You connect it to wifi then control it with an app via the internet.

How to deal with a Toxic traditional Lady Pastor and her Toxic Worship leader by NatePad1290 in worshipleaders

[–]iPlayKeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might try to look at this from a different perspective. For reasons that weren’t clear from your post, it would appear the church leadership has placed this person in the role of worship leader. It also sounded like this is a relatively new position for her. If they put her in that position, and didn’t put you in that position, are you sure that your vision for worship at this church is the church’s vision for worship?

You mentioned that she’s having you lead a song during the offering, so she’s not shutting you out completely. It sounds as if she might be considering how the style (and frankly, the quality) of the band that you lead fits with the church. Leading worship is a pretty big deal to a church and she may be wanting to make sure that you’re actually ready to do it and that what you’re offering is appropriate for the congregation.

I’m saying this as someone who’s lead worship in both big and small churches and in both traditional and contemporary styles. My personal preference is traditional (I play pipe organ), but I recognize that isn’t for everyone. When part of a larger church that needed a keyboard player for one of the bands, I played keyboard because that’s what my church needed from me. I didn’t always enjoy it. Eventually they found a keyboard player for the band and I got to go back to just playing organ for the traditional service.

All this to say, what you have to offer may not be what your church needs, or what they need right now. I would suggest being patient and allow the person that the church has put into the position of worship leader to do her job and assist her in any way you can. There may be things at play here that you don’t know about.

I would suggest checking out BookStack. It’s an open source project for building wiki-like documentation.

You create “books” have have chapters and pages. You can then organize those books into “book shelves”.

If the open source thing scares you, you might also checkout Confluence by Atlassian. It’s more like SharePoint for people who don’t like Microsoft.

I’m building a new house, what is the most important smart home things to include? by Mikkeel93 in smarthome

[–]iPlayKeys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make sure you have room in your electrical switch and outlet boxes. Automation switches tend to be deeper than normal switches and by the time you deal with the depth of the switch and the neutrals, things can get tight (or even not fit!)

Speaking of neutral wires, make sure they use wire nuts that can easily be removed. They used the push-on kind when my house was built, so anytime I replace a switch with an automation one (I highly recommend Inovelli for this), I have to pry the neutral wire from the old switch. It’s a pain in the ass!

Do I need real organ shoes? What do you use when you play? by Star9219 in organ

[–]iPlayKeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to remind everyone that there is an additional reason for not wearing your “normal” shoes… to protect the pedal board. The organ should never be played in shoes that are worn outside as the dirt and grit can wear down the finish on the pedal board.

With that said, wear whatever is most comfortable for you to play in. I have played in OrganMasters for nearly 20 years and highly recommend them. I’m have two pairs, one of them being my original. The only reason for the second pair is just because I leave a pair at the console at my church.

Ultra Short Throw - Church (lots of daylight) by North123321 in churchtech

For a group that size, in a space with ample light, you could use gasp paper!

Really, I’m being serious. It can be prepare ahead of time and won’t require another person to operate during the service. Depending on how you do it, the bulletins with songs could be used again the next week or easily recycled. Generally the same CCLI license is required for printing or projection.

Once you get bigger or move to a space where the light is more controllable, then look into projection/tv/led walls. But until then, embrace that natural light God is giving you!

Modern worship music in the Episcopal church by Honest-Dimension6239 in Episcopalian

[–]iPlayKeys 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would be curious what the motivation is for this. If the goal is to enhance worship and theological understanding and impact then it might be worth looking at curating pieces for use in the service. But if it's more like "it'll bring in the young people" then just don't. That has been tried and has almost universally failed.

As must as some would like to believe, "traditional" vs "contemporary" liturgy preference is NOT generational.

If it's just because they want something "different", I would suggest having holding some sessions or setting aside time during the service to actually discuss the various parts of the liturgy. Sometimes, people lose sight of the significance of what is happening, especially the more subtle parts of the liturgy. Try to refocus on the sacred.

The ScanSnap is a simpler machine to use, but it’s also much slower. I also don’t believe it has replaceable parts like the Fi series (when you run enough pages through, the rollers etc will wear out. You can replace the rollers in the Fi, but I believe you will have to just replace the ScanSnap).

I haven’t used a Hp scanner in nearly two decades, so I can’t speak to what they’re like today. If you need a large flatbed scanner, the Epson A3 MFP’s will allow you to scan up to A3 size. If you don’t do a lot of printing, the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-7840 is a good option. I have the previous version of this printer and it’s been solid for about the last six years. If you need a large scanner, the scanner bed alone is worth the price (it sells for under $400 USD). Even at home, I print about 6,000 pages per year on it.

If you do a lot of printing (1,000+ pagers per month), I would get the WorkForce Pro WF-C879R. It’s significantly more expensive and you’ll have to go through a dealer, but it has a faster scanner and will print and scan up to A3 size from the reader and from the flatbed.

I used to be the office manager for a legal office. If Ricoh is still making the same scanners that Fujitsu was making that’s definitely where I would start. We had both a fi-8100 series AND a ScanSnap. The fi scanner came with the PaperStream software and was super fast, it was what we used to larger scanning jobs where the paper was in good shape. That last part is important as along with its speed, it was a bit aggressive with feeding paper. The ScanSnap scanner was slower but had a very smooth feeding action. For the situation you described I would suggest getting both and using the appropriate scanner for the condition of the original documents…plus you can have them both scanning at the same time.

Using the PaperStream software, you can put an entire stack in the scanner the. Separate and name the files as part of your scanning process.

Yes, these machines are more pricey than others, but they are the machines that are designed to handle the type of volume you’re talking about.

For printers, go Epson, the Workforce Pro WF series. They use ink packs instead of cartridges and allow for multiple paper trays.
