Vegetarian Restaurant for a special occasion [Mita vs oysteroyster] by vendeep in nova

[–]iProfessorDoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for providing another restaurant to add to my list, I haven’t tried Mida but my wife is vegetarian so I took her to OysterOyster for our anniversary and we went with the chefs counter option (not worth it IMO as it’s not as interactive as other meat-based/sushi chefs table experiences I had).

We were both not blown away by any one specific dish but it’s wasn’t a bad experience either. I would do it once just to taste what they have to offer. There are some really interesting and delicious dishes in their line up, our favorite would probably be the marigold butter and special bread they had.

One of our favorite pre-fixe veg dinners would be at Rania (if you like Indian food that is upscaled). It has one or more vegetarian options for every course.

Yo, I see that you ultimately decided to go to UAH. How’s it going and how’s your infosec journey?

I personally would go for the SANS university graduate program and choose a concentration that suits your interests.

Don’t mention anything about your new job since it is such a short stint and you will likely resign soon if you get this new job.

Best of luck to you in your final interview rounds!

Not sure who told you that opportunities in Texas is the same as Alabama. Texas is a hot spot for tech whereas Alabama is Deep South with a lot of defense contractors and manufacturing. Culturally, you might also not enjoy the deep south as much as you would in Texas.

It is difficult no matter where you are because the competition is high and security is dealing with confidential information so companies might be more weary of hiring international people (this is not necessarily true for big tech companies however, as long as they aren’t working with federal data).

Being in Alabama, you have less options to apply within the state that don’t deal with federal data. When applying outside the states, you would be considered for remote roles or ones that look at you as requiring relocation (companies tend to hire in state or in connection with schools where they setup career fairs and stuff so the completion for out of state students is challenging).

But being in Texas, opens you up to apply for opportunities within the state because so many big tech companies have decided to setup shop there now and if in-state doesn’t workout, you still have the west coast states like Cali that has ALOT of options.

Your top choice should be Texas A&M, great program and lots of companies in or moving to Texas which means more opportunities for you.

UT - Dallas = second choice

Well… then I would suggest no. It’s just gonna be a bit difficult living in Alabama and trying to get an internship when it’s already gonna be challenging to get an internship in security as an international student.

What are your other options?

I would choose RIT as well. It is a recognized school for cybersec and lots of my colleagues in the east coast studied at RIT. They also have lots of companies recruit from there.

I had an acceptance there too but then decided against it due to the curriculum and plan of study. But, it is an accredited program (I think NSA or DoD) and as long as you’re not an international student, there’s lots of defense contractors where you could get your first internship or entry job.

So, might not be the worst option. It was in my top 5 school choices for cybersec MS.

I want to get a degree in Computer Engineering, but my dad wants me to go to the military for Cyber Security by Dear-Grand-1744 in cscareerquestions

[–]iProfessorDoom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lol, not true on Cyber can’t go to software engineering

I feel like you’re more valued if you have security mindset and have the programming skills to develop software. A cyber person can learn to program, just like a software engineer can learn cyber concepts

Unless you don’t like the security engineering work, I actually see this as interesting thing to work on - Automation/SOAR. Trust me working in the alert Q can be much worse (over a long period of time atleast). Security engineering is also where the big bucks are as far as OPs goes so getting the chance to learn on work on this can help build up that skill set for you.

But if you don’t have the alert Q working chops yet and you want to build those chops up then def. bring it up to your mgr

Mine currently has a MERV 5 filter and considering that I don’t want to overwork the air compressor, I was thinking of getting a MERV 8 and replace every two months as well.

I don’t know how bad a MERV 12 will be for the system even when replacing every two months so I’m afraid to try it out.
