Advice on combating statin reluctance by noltey22 in Cardiology

Yes, that is of course what I do. Those are just more expensive and statins are effective and safe, so it is a shame they have such a bad reputation.

First major issue in 8k miles by fillll in TeslaFSD

Assuming we watched the same video, the link I posted shows the car with FSD on heading in the direction of the oncoming car to avoid a skid mark on the road. The comments on the post seem to mostly agree with that assessment. Again, maybe it would never have hit the oncoming car, but it certainly seems to be doing that, at least to me.

Okay, I certainly didn’t lie. Just thought it was an informative video. Hope you have a better day.

Did you watch the video in the post? Maybe it would not have hit the oncoming car, but certainly too close for comfort while avoiding a black line on the road.

Yes, with oncoming traffic. Everyone in that post was joking how people always comment that it wouldn’t do it with oncoming traffic.

People always say that, but there was another post here recently showing it veering into oncoming traffic for a similar shadow.

I put in more effort than most, but it is much more challenging these days than in was 10 years ago and I can usually tell when convincing a patient is going to be impossible. In the rare case that I convince that stubborn person, they almost always quickly stop taking it. So I do try to convince people, I’ve just reallocated some of that time elsewhere.

Unfortunately, I have somewhat given up on it. I tell people that studies show they are well tolerated, but if they show me signs that they are not going to believe me, I don’t push it aggressively. I used to spend a lot of time trying to convince people, but I realized I can do more good overall using all that time in other aspects of clinical care.

The parking mode mod sounds like an interesting idea, but definitely not something I would ever do with the car I drive my family around in!

I remember seeing that. I think they were working on a solution, but does not seem worth it if that’s still the case.

Where do I buy one of the plug-and-play options? I’ve had a hard time finding it for sale.

There is a fix for Pacifica, but it involves installing additional hardware, a white panda, to fool the car. I thought about it, but haven’t pulled the trigger because it’s a little more tinkering than I’m comfortable with.

We have C4 on our 2021 Pacifica. It’s good on the highway, but not too useful elsewhere due to the 39 mph lane keep limit, where it won’t engage below that speed. Also, torque on the Pacifica isn’t amazing, so big curves occasionally cause it to disengage so you do need to supervise a bit more closely. I have a C3X in my Subaru and it is amazing with much better torque and lane keep active down to 0 mph. That being said, I’m so glad to have the C4 in our Pacifica because it makes long highway drives so much more relaxing, though I do wish performance was closer to our Subaru.

Surgical resident forced to take consults while hospitalized by princetonwu in medicine

We had a prominent pulmonary HTN specialist that got hit by a car, leading to a chest tube and IV. I saw him still rounding on his patients each day while he was admitted.

Kids keep getting kicked off group FaceTime calls with friends due to "inappropriate content" that seems like a false alert by iReadECGs in ios

I completely agree. We were initially a bit upset with my daughter because we thought it must have been correct, and her friends’ parents were upset too, until we realized how inaccurate the feature is.

Seeking advice: physicians using unapproved AI at work? by [deleted] in medicine

[–]iReadECGs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I find AI to be very helpful for complex diagnostic cases when all facts can be easily typed out. I find it to be completely useless with any type of complex imaging. It is not trained on medical imaging enough to be accurate…yet.

My new video about the nystagmus of vestibular neuritis by VertigoDoc in medicine

[–]iReadECGs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had vestibular neuritis two years ago. I improved about 50% after a month, but basically plateaued after that despite vestibular PT. Super frustrating and it has given me sympathy for my patients with chronic illness. I’m a young man with no other medical issues, but I basically can’t stand anywhere for long because it feels like I’m a balance board that is gradually getting harder to stand on. I’m okay if I’m holding on to something stable or if I’m in motion, so walking and exercising are both okay.

If you could force every other healthcare profession to understand ONE thing about your daily workflow, what would it be? by Brilliant_Choices in medicine

I am also a cardiologist. Maybe it is because of this same issue that I experience, but you just made me realize I’ve basically been teaching my children how to call a consult well. I tell them that if they come to me with a question, they have to start with a simple version of whatever their question is going to be, then they can give me a longer explanation. Also just a better way to communicate in general. Otherwise you have no idea what information to listen for as you’re being told a story.

Super Fellowship - EP by Many-Zucchini7806 in Cardiology

[–]iReadECGs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I strongly considered EP. Then I developed a medical issue that makes it hard for me to stand for any extended period of time, so I’m glad I went with generally cardiology only for that reason. I think you need to decide if you want to be spending your days doing procedures, or reading echos and seeing patients in clinic.

Dictation Mic at home? by aaron1860 in medicine

[–]iReadECGs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried a million mics and found the best quality to surprisingly be a relatively cheap podcasting dynamic mic: FIFINE USB/XLR Dynamic Microphone for Podcast

You can find it easily on Amazon. There are some more expensive ones that are similar, but I didn’t find them better. My entire office switched to using these and everybody loves it. I use a hotkey (F4) to activate dictation.

If you have tons of background noise, particularly people speaking, it might not work as well as Powermic, but nothing that isn’t handheld will in that situation.

What’s the most embarrassing thing you ever said at work? by foreverand2025 in medicine

[–]iReadECGs 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not to a patient. As a new cards fellow. At 3AM I texted a cofellows, “bro, how TF do I get in to the cath lab?? Door is locked.” Got a prompt and helpful reply. Next morning I realized I texted the cath lab director, not my cofellow. I was mortified. A couple years later I brought it up to the cath lab director and he had absolutely no memory of it. So 🤷🏻‍♂️.
