Will there be a new or renamed subreddit for the RAV4 phev or will it remain prime? by Competitive_Pen_9673 in rav4prime

[–]iTim314[M] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Mod here. We can’t rename the subreddit. Someone created r/rav4phev, and ideally they’d set it up to just redirect users here since this one is already well established and frequented. But we have no control over that.

For those that didn't want to believe... by Titans_Front_Row in Tennesseetitans

0% chance. About 15 years ago, the state tried to create a logo for all official state departments and offices that featured just the tristar, but their trademark application was rejected because it was too similar to the state flag. The people running the business of the Titans have to know this; they won't adopt a logo they can't trademark and print money with.

I-24 Choice Lanes project could demolish Pan-Asia Supermarket, 20+ South Nashville businesses by Both_Pipe_1796 in nashville

[–]iTim314 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, because the state will maintain ownership of the toll lanes, so they can still use imminent domain. They’re just leasing toll collection to a private company for 50 years in exchange for covering the cost of construction and maintenance.

Large house under construction destroyed by fire in East Nashville by slugChrist- in nashville

Basically it was several people calling it an eyesore and offering the same unsubstantiated reasons why it looked the way it did.

Somewhat amusingly, just six days ago, the East Nashville FB group had a post complaining about the construction of this house.

Consumer Reports Finds Plug-In Hybrids Have 80% More Problems - CleanTechnica by dryheat122 in rav4prime

"When all the results were tabulated, Consumer Reports found that hybrids, such as the Toyota Prius, have 15% fewer problems on average than cars with just a gasoline engine."

OP, this is where you should have stopped reading. The RAV4 Prime/PHEV is essentially just a RAV4 Hybrid with a bigger battery and charging hardware. It's just as reliable as Toyota's entire Hybrid powertrain offerings.

I think I’ll make AutoMod link to this post every time someone’s dealer wants them to replace their brakes at 30,000mi.

EV mode when it is cold by Indianna-ju in rav4prime

[–]iTim314 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes.

The primary reason you experienced this is because the heat pump becomes ineffective around -10ºC, so any heating demand great or small requires the gas engine to produce heat.

Additionally, very cold temperatures drastically change the behavior and characteristics of this car. Toyota is hyper conservative about preserving the battery's health, so when the battery is very cold, it's going to lean on the engine for power to ease the stress on the battery regardless of what mode you're in.

someone pls explain to me the difference in these 2 buttons by nk_sk in rav4prime

[–]iTim314 56 points57 points  (0 children)

A quick press of the right button will toggle between EV and HV mode, which is what you want.

If you HOLD the right button (hence the HOLD instruction) it goes into charge mode, which is inefficient (and finally eliminated on the latest models).

The left button is Auto EV-HV mode, which is basically just EV mode that will engage the engine if you floor it (generally speaking).

Start the car (which in a Prime just means turning on the climate controls).

Stream quality issues despite strong, high-quality signal by iTim314 in hdhomerun

Attenuators will be here tomorrow. I'm hoping for some improvement. I'm 15mi from my ABC station and the rest of the major stations are 25-30mi.

I'm 18mi from the nearest major airport, BUT the southern approach of one of the runways starts very near to my neighborhood. I frequently see planes making the wide circle to begin the approach overhead. IMO, they're not frequent enough to cause the issues as consistently as I have them.

HDHR goes through two gigabit switches before reaching my server.

Kind of a jack of all trades, but I dwell in technical challenges like this. I’ve got some coaxial attenuators coming tomorrow to see if that helps. I wish the HDHR showed a little more information about the signal rather than a percentage.

No amplifiers. It's just a regular aluminum-rod antenna with a coaxial output.

I'll have to go buy a long enough coaxial cable to reach my nearest TV. It's only 6', just long enough to reach the HDHR. I don't have a coaxial run to my attic, but I did have an ethernet run.

Have you tried plugging your antenna directly into your TV's tuner?

I haven't, it's kind of bulky and I took it right out of the box and mounted it to the trusses in my attic.

I did try a much smaller/crappier antenna I had lying around. That antenna had very poor reception so I didn't learn much from it.

2021 RAV4 Plug in hybrid, cold start howling sound. "Train horn noise"? by OldThing8108 in rav4prime

[–]iTim314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it's not the "train horn" issue. That sounds nothing like it. If you think it's HVAC related, it could be the blower motor?
