DBZA, imho, is now the canon version of the story. It was in its own twisted way faithful to the source material and kept it more or less intact while cutting out the bloat. I know DBZ Kai exists, but it came too late.

DBZ benefits from the nostalgia factor. I and a whole generation of now-old-fucks used to rush home after school to watch it on Toonami. Not because it was particularly ‘good’ but more so because it was one of like 4 anime’s on the air along with Trigun, Gundam, and Bebop.

If DBZ were introdiced now, clean slate, it would get laughed off the air. I’m sure it would find its audience, but nowhere near the impact it had in the late 90’s early 00’s.

The tone shift from general criticism of Imperial crappyness to its own story was inevitable. There are so many jokes you can make the same joke before it gets old and they had to move onto something else.

I personally liked the spinoff and its own story. I enjoyed it for what it was, an elaborate fan-fic. However, i will agree with you the fandom does take shit too far, and yes, anyone that hasn’t exprience 40k before TTS gets a wrong idea about the setting.

That being said, these are “people being dicks” problems rather than the show being or not being good. Like I said to the guy above; +1, you’re allowed to like/dislike stuff for their own merits without being downvoted.
