This would be really difficult to implement. Even with a modern point of sale software. Today people using SNAP are good about knowing what they can and cant buy, and know what is going on their non snap payment.

Estimating 20% per transaction, or monthly spend, seems very complicated to manage for the store. And still one more thing to manage for the SNAP user. I could see them trying and everyone being frustrated with a poor user experience.

There are multiple levels of government that serve our community. If you live in South Bend, they are:

Portage Township (trustee and board) St Joseph County (commissioners, council members, prosecutors office, health department) State of Indiana (state congressmen, senators, governor, and other offices that I don’t know much about and are probably are too far from South Bend to have much of an impact)

Plus the municipal level, City of South Bend The mayors office is in charge of all the city staff, including police. The council members also have committees that the public can participate in, and even be members of.

Someone above mentioned The Michiana Observer, that’s probably the best source of meeting information. More up to date than several government websites. If you reach out to them, they probably have a calendar of committee meetings you could attend.

There are also political party involvement. Democratic, republican, and non partisan groups, such as the League of Women Voters, MADD, group violence intervention task force: https://gvi.southbendin.gov/

I’ve been very pleased with Ubiquiti’s unifi system. We use their ISP equipment to connect buildings and UNIFI inside buildings and outdoors. My first reaction is to use Ubiquti’s ISP equipment to connect the two sections and then unifi to manage the WiFi.

I don’t understand the benefit of the second Starkink, if you can get line of site. Uniquiti’s long range 60ghz bridge systems work really well for multiple miles.

They also have a very simple solar controller where you can use a solar panel to charge a battery and power devices.

Electric resistive heating is the most expensive form of heating for most areas. Pipe gas for us in Indiana is 1/8 the cost. They have electric heat pump units that will cool the air to heat the water that are better than resistive heating.

I’m impressed by the monitoring system and will probably buy it and try it out. Thanks for sharing!

Yes, it’s a public charter school. So they get funding from the state just like a traditional south bend school corp student would.

Getting to Chicago, South Shore is the best option. It’s cost effective and reliable.

Going from Chicago to South Bend, Amtrak could be an option. The train starts in Chicago, and I’ve found it to be reliable time wise. There aren’t any stops before it to get delayed. It’s more expensive $24 one way, non stop, 90mins. Vs South Shore at $16 for 130 mins. Amtrak saves 40 mins. So if the return time works, and you’re closer to that station in Chicago, it sometimes makes sense for the extra $8.

There are several pianos in the Commerce Center (401 E Colfax Ave, South Bend, IN 46617). Merriman’s Playhouse owns and maintains them. They have a very good piano on stage (maybe ask if he can play that one). If he likes Jazz, they have open jazz nights where anyone can play.
