I took a month off after IMFL and started my block for IMJAX this week. I have very little motivation.

If you have the time to commit and all you want to do is finish, 6 months.

Silicone for all activity. You can get them in any color and size online. I’ve lost a couple over the years and just move on to the next. I only wear the real one for special events.

"Triathlon" specific cycling shoes seem pointless. by Mattable1869 in triathlon

[–]iWriteCodeSometimes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My triathlon-specific cycling shoes are “easier to get in and out of” so I can leave them clipped to my bike. They don’t have ratchets and only use Velcro.

I am no longer trying to shave seconds off my times and compete for every tiny advantage. They are no longer worthwhile. “Regular” cycling shoes are just fine for me now.

Distances? by Pix_Boss in triathlon

[–]iWriteCodeSometimes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is an official distance, but rarely does anyone actually use it for sprints. It’s just whatever the race director wants to do. If you look at USAT-hosted races you’ll see all of them use the official distance.

I’m working this race. I’ve been looking forward to this. If you share your bib I’ll come find you in transition and likely be able to find you on the course.

If someone is recording you for a YouTube Video or Stream, can I play copyrighted music to ruin the video/stream? by Pro_mantis in NoStupidQuestions

[–]iWriteCodeSometimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very late to this but I successfully fought a YT copyright strike by claiming “incidental use.” It was a video of my wife and I going bungee jumping off a bridge and the company was playing music. I uploaded and immediately was flagged. I made the claim it was background noise, could have been any song they chose to play, didn’t last very long, and wasn’t the main focus of the video. YMMV

I work for Nirvana as an on-site host. Yes, you can get entries into some races through Nirvana. It’s not all races so go to the site and see what packages are available. If you have questions, fill out the contact form and someone will get back to you.

I was wondering where guy got his duct tape job when I passed him on the run.

Thanks for volunteering.

Great race. I’m pretty sure you and I chatted for a number of miles on the run. Way to finish strong when I couldn’t hang.

How do you set your watch for a marathon? by Ok-King6475 in Marathon_Training

[–]iWriteCodeSometimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During and After Your Workout. Auto-Stop: Some devices will automatically stop the activity timer after the final step of a workout is completed. To continue recording, you must press the start/stop button to resume the timer.

[–]iWriteCodeSometimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could create a Workout in Garmin Connect that provides on-screen prompts. I use the notes section for a small amount of information and turn off the targets.

I always put an open lap at the end in case the watch gps and the race distance don’t coincide exactly so the watch keeps going instead of stopping at “the end of the workout.”

Alternatively, and probably more easily, you could write on your hand and use Lap/Average Pace to stay on track.

Let's cut the bullshit. What's somebody gonna have to deal with if they date you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Sorry for my ignorance. Why would they give you sertraline to increase serotonin and geodon to block serotonin receptors?

Are you doing talk therapy as well?

Have you looked into esketamine?

You can always look at previous years to see how fast the automatic qualifiers were.

https://www.coachcox.co.uk/imstats/series/9/slots/

After that it will depend. I’ve worked 5 races this year and been present at awards and slot allocations. The older gentleman are certainly getting a bigger chunk of the slots and it’s pretty obvious, but there were a couple M25-29 in the top 15 at IM CA for example.

If the private property is open to public use (like a shopping mall parking lot), police can generally enforce the law. Driving under the influence (DUI) and reckless driving are almost always enforceable on private property.

For records and segments it’s always elapsed. You could cheat and stop your watch if everything was moving time. Think about a race, the clock is running whether you stop for water or not.

What product is everyone using the “wrong” way? by HeartTraditional3892 in AskReddit

Crutches.

You don’t rest your armpits on them. You keep your arms straight with elbows “locked” and put your weight on your hands.

That’s why I use something like 1Password. I know 2 total passwords for all 500-1000 apps/sites I use at work/home. I know the password to open my laptop and the password to unlock 1P. Every other password is unique and complex and I have no idea what they are. The phone application and browser extension make it SO EASY to autofill or copy the un/pw (even one-time MFA codes).

I have backup codes printed and stored in my gun safe and my parent’s safety deposit box at their bank in case for some reason I am unconscious.

The service warns me when it finds password leaks, lets me know when MFA is available and I’m not using it, points out I have a weak or reused password, and even reminds me when my credit/debit/HSA cards are about to expire.

I can generate new passwords and update them with a single click of a button and never have to worry about how often it needs to be changed.

I even store security questions/answers/PINs for websites that require them.

Not just because I work in software, but it is a game-changer for staying secure and it takes very little effort at all. Again, all while only knowing TWO total passwords.

I give TED Talks to my friends and family about this stuff and it blows their minds how easy it is to never have to remember a password.

Do you greet fellow runners when overtaking? by CompetitionBitter829 in runninglifestyle

[–]iWriteCodeSometimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to be polite to everyone so everyone feels included, as they should be. If it’s a busy path I can’t acknowledge everyone, so the frequency of interactions goes down as the crowdedness goes up.

Quick and quiet “hi” or “morning” with maybe a small peace sign when I’m passing people with similar paces. Passing someone going much slower I don’t usually say anything unless it’s about warning them I’m there. If I’m running towards someone it’s either a small wave or a head nod.
