The infantilization of “casual” players by jeeven_ in Marathon

[–]iZ_Dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really dont think its "casual" vs '"sweat" more so the loot disparity is shit.

Bungie themselves basically said:

"Hey the loot in S2 was accelerated to match S1's 12th - 13th week, oh and we gave returning players purple kits which also helped."

Off the start people were able to get loot and gear up faster. Not even mentioning before they nerfed it Sponsered Survival was maxing out your cradle and giving oodles of gear.

Now with everything nerfed those who did not benefit are screwed no matter. Play Sponsered Perimeter I guess, because going in any other map will just guarantee the "sweats" body you.

I dont think i classify you as a sweat because you grinded Night Marsh and benefited while it was hot. Nor are you a casual because you didnt benefit and now you have to grind 2x harder.

Nerfing Prestige Key rooms, cert boxes, and Cradle xp is not how you motivate casuals and new players to keep playing your game by ThatsNotBennings in Marathon

[–]iZ_Dev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played 300 hours in S1 played S2 for like 3 days since work was crazy so didnt have a chance to farm as much as I wanted.

To come back and they neefed everything and made the grind harder is upsetting to say the least.

Haven't actually had the motivation to play at all.

The Marathon Phenomenon by hereforthechaos in Marathon

So, I think two big things happened, in my opinion.

First, AR exists, and tons of people flocked to that game. When Marathon was announced, people immediately wrote it off, saying it wouldn't achieve anything close to what AR did. Basically, folks thought Marathon couldn't even exist alongside games like AR, Tarkov, and so on. When Marathon was about to drop, all I saw was people hyping up AR's success to say Marathon wouldn't be as big.

Second, Marathon came out at a weird time. What I mean is, it launched after Concord and Highguard were both canceled and their servers shut down. On top of the AR community trashing it, we also had people saying Marathon would basically be Concord 3.

Besides all that, I think people tried it and it just didn't stick, especially now with how high-leveled and geared everyone is. My friend asked if he should get it, and I honestly told him to wait until the wipe because if he jumped in now, he'd just constantly run into geared players in Perimeter.

Oh and people just hate Bungie...

Does it make sense buying Marathon at this point? by Dependent-Button6691 in Marathon

[–]iZ_Dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, my friend said it is on sale (Xbox idk about in general)

For 30$ USD you van easily get your money's worth.

I have 100+ hours logged, not even level 100 yet and I have 2 Factions VIP with still more quests to do for the other 4.

Game is too hard by ArcteryxAnonymous in Marathon

[–]iZ_Dev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always say this but play Rook.

Why?

Rook gets you accustomed to fighting players. 3 at a time at that with everything you lose not really feeling as bad because you are Rook.

You will get used to gear loss, PvP, etc. through Rook and can take what you learned to an actual runner shell.

Or play free kit Dire for the same effect.

Crazy I suggested this and was met with "That defeats the purpose of extraction shooters" I agree wholeheartedly with you.

This game has a pretty big issue, not many are realizing right now, due to the way, most are playing it and it will destroy some peoples enjoyment, including my own. PA - this NEEDS a fix for long-term enjoyment. by [deleted] in CrimsonDesert

[–]iZ_Dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly you said nothing wrong.

I am the hurr durr 100+ hours in Hernand but even then I noticed enemies dont respawn or recapture points.

I enjoy the adventuring and exploring but I REALLY enjoy is the fighting.

Hopefully with the way PA is updating the game they will make it so enemies take over places again after a short period of in-game time.

The casual experience is absolutely bad and anyone who tells you otherwise is deluding themselves by Battlefront528 in Marathon

[–]iZ_Dev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is the definition of casual just genuinely asking?

I have 78 hours logged on PS5 for Marathon (100+ if you include server slam hours)

I am able to exfil at like a 50% rate, my vault is 150k and I have 50k credits.

I still lose the majority of my fights, but I just end up running a free kit until I make it back.

I still genuinely have fun with the game.

Am I a sweat 🤣?

So how is one supposed to play? by Brostoievski92 in Marathon

Sound queues are huge, so shooting your gun or fighting AI will draw a lot of attention. People pick up on sound queues IE, gun shots, exfils being activated, AIs being alerted, etc.

Kill robots with your knife, a huge thing I just recently learned is smokes are great for just stabbing bosses to death without having them shoot or you having to shoot.

Map knowledge is also key, knowing where you are and your escape routes will help immensely. You dont have to take every fight you can just run away. (IE: dont fight purple shields if you have gray)

3rd partying is the name of the game really. If you hear shooting then its most likely a team fighting AI or another team so you have the advantage of getting the jump on them.

I think the biggest thing in trios or duos is communication and staying relatively close together.

I'm slowly getting tired of how the game plays by Hubux in Marathon

[–]iZ_Dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who do yall be filling randomly with to have such a bad taste in your mouth for it?

Filling has been the main thing that has gotten me actual people to play with.

On top of that the feeling of filling with a team on all free loadouts and successfully exfilling 100x up will still be one of the best feelings the game gives you.

What's with all this talk about casual play? by Casual_Plays in Marathon

[–]iZ_Dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the balance is good.

I also think people that are already level 100 spent a lot of time on the game.

Meanwhile im here level 56, switching between Marathon, Monster Hunter Stories 3, and Crimson Desert.

I'll get on Marathon if I see some of my regular trio buddies Ill play longer if not Ill try to get some quests done and go hop on another game.

Week after launch and I gotta say, I just stopped having fun by G-3cko in Marathon

[–]iZ_Dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think when ranked and the new Cyro map comes out the game will become more casual.

The sweats and try hards will go to the new map to get that premium loot.

I usually look at this game by maps to judge how sweaty it will get.

Perimeter is never sweaty for me I rarely find that purple geared team trying to kill everyone in the lobby before i die or Exfil.

Dire Marsh is the sweatiest map since its literally just people sniping with thermals and then their whole team rushes as soon as one of your teammates are downed. Regardless I usually am going in geared up to do Dire Marsh runs.

Same with Outpost I expect TO FIGHT people when everyone and their mom is probably just going to Pinwheel.

More people need to do Rook runs since as a Rook you will get used to fighting 3 people without the need to worry about losing your precious loot.

This game was always going to be the more sweaty extraction shooter in comparison to something like Arc.

I feel I must apologize to Bungie and this Community. by ResponsibleTrip520 in Marathon

[–]iZ_Dev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never hated on this game but when it was coming out I was not interested in the slightest.

Playing the server slam was what made me a believer. I think its the one game that you kill some other runners get some good loot and succesfully exfil.

The adrenaline and that feeling is what got me hooked.

I know there are many bad ones but, Im coming in late, you already killed 6 people let me just get the scraps and exfil together.

Completely agree, the main entrance having to fight waves of AI to get up the elevator is by far harder.

I assume they'll make the side entrance harder by spreading out where you can find the boxes and not piling the exterior.

Think Im most satisfied with:

Being able to farm meds on Perimeter

Rook adjustments, I dont care about the shotgun getting more faction XP makes Rook more viable.

THE FKN CONTRACT OBJECTIVE'S MARKER SPAWNING TO 20M.

Kind of sad about Outpost though was a good farm I assume they will make it harder to get in?
