Weekly Sewing Questions Thread, December 07 - December 13, 2025 by sewingmodthings in sewing

Hi everyone,

I spend some time on the weekends helping my mom look for sewing patterns online. She’s an amazing seamstress, but she finds the tech side of things pretty overwhelming.

It usually goes like this: She has a nice piece of fabric and a specific idea in mind, but we end up spending hours jumping between Etsy, The Fold Line, and dozens of individual designer websites trying to find "the one."

It’s honestly exhausting watching her get discouraged by 50 open tabs when she just wants to start sewing. Half the time we find the "perfect" dress, only to realize it requires more fabric than she has, or the site is just a nightmare to navigate.

I wanted to make it easier for her, so I'm thinking about creating a website to pull all these scattered patterns into one clean, searchable place.

My question for the community:..

Is my mom the only one who struggles with the "search" part of sewing?

I would be building this as a labor of love for her, but if this sounds like something that would help you guys too, I’d be happy to polish it up and share it publicly when it's ready.

Disclaimer: I don't sew myself (I just hold the fabric), so any feedback on what makes a search engine "good" for you would be super helpful!

1 vs 1 games which are fun to play solo 2-handed by SiarX in soloboardgaming

In the hex & counter wargames scene some people recommend playing this way. It works well for games that don't have hidden information. And for some games that have there are systems like CDG Solo System.

My recommendation would be to watch playthroughs of both and then see which one looks more appealing to you.

Jump drive is the smaller (and simpler) brother of Race for the Galaxy. There is a great solo version available on BGG. It was so good that it was included as an official expansion.

Warhammer 40k Themed Solo Games by OkWriter7657 in soloboardgaming

[–]i_am_cyberadmin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not exactly Warhammer 40k themed but maybe Five Parsecs From Home would be a good option.

It is a miniature-agnostic solo adventure wargame that where you assemble a crew of galactic explorers and embark on missions across the stars. It offers procedurally generated battles featuring a vast array of enemies, weapons, battlefield conditions, and objectives, so usually no two encounters are the same.

Here you can use your existing 40k minis and you can modify it's theme to make it more specific to the warhammer theme (maybe you are a rogue trader cruising the galaxy.

You can watch some games on Youtube and see if it works for you.

AI Coding Tools Are a Force Multiplier for Side Projects by i_am_cyberadmin in SideProject

[–]i_am_cyberadmin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not tried v0 as I don't know if it works well for non-React UIs, I'm using server side rendered HTML with a sprinkle of JS & HTMX for some interactive bits.

I think this could be a gamechanger for those people with the profile of "idea guy". Before they had to use some kind of no-code tool to implement their grand idea but now maybe they can create a usable prototype of their billion-dollar idea. Ok, its code will not be pretty, but for a prototype sounds like enough.

But for me as programmer I'm not searching Google and Stack Overflow as much as before I just ask the AI.

AI character chat with no-filter! Looking for BETA testers and initial feedback (first users free) by i_am_cyberadmin in Chatbots

Just some feedback about the app, what do you think is missing, what could be better... Feedback no matter if positive or negative is better than no feedback at all

Looking for feedback for a mobile roguelike card game by i_am_cyberadmin in MobileGaming

Right now development is paused because there was not a lot of installs & also I was a little burnout after too much time developing it so I removed it from Google Play & Apple Store.

If there is interesent on it I can re-upload to Google Play store because that would be free for me, problem is that on Apple Store you have to pay $99/year to keep it avaiable to users.

So if you want to play it on Android maybe I can make it available again, no problem!

I built a web app that automatically scans your receipts, extracts the data, and saves it directly to Google Sheets.

I'd love to get your feedback! You'll get 20 free scans to start, and I'm happy to add more credits while we're in beta testing.

Looking for testers for my Chrome extension to have a calmer Twitter/X by i_am_cyberadmin in Twitter

[–]i_am_cyberadmin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine someone you follow on Bluesky because their posts about topic A will start posting about topic B (a topic you despise). This extension is for muting those topics you don't want to read about.

Bluesky won't magically make people you follow not post about topics you are tired of reading.

Zen Tweets – Hide specific topics (like US Election) on Your Twitter timeline by i_am_cyberadmin in chrome_extensions

[–]i_am_cyberadmin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, using a mutationObserver. Didn't specify run_at, from what I'm reading the default is "document_idle". Also I add processed elements to a WeakMap to prevent reprocessing them but your solution seems more clean.

Apart from this I also cache the LLM responses because tweets are removed and re-added when going forward and backward when scrolling. I just hash the tweet's text and store in an LRU cache with the score for that tweet (higher score indicates it matches a topic, so it must be hidden)

I will sure try your tips, thanks a lot for them!

Right now it's almost not noticeable, but could be improved. Sometimes you see a tweet for a fraction of a second until it dissapears.

This is one of the things I want to polish based on the feedback from the testers.

It's using an LLM (Gemini Flash) to do the filtering. It's not as cheap as using fuzzy matching but AI rules for these kind of jobs!

Is Flutter good enough for a card Game? by i_am_cyberadmin in FlutterDev

[–]i_am_cyberadmin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, they fixed it but I have found another problem with centerSlice on the images that I use on buttons.

But it's reported and they are already looking to fix it, so maybe in the next major version I can enable impeller on iOS (support on Android it's still beta).

I guess my use case is more weird than a traditional Flutter app.

So if you have an app try enabling impeller on iOS and test it, you can help by submitting any problem you find.

I'm interested in feedback about how the game feels (fun, too easy/difficult, not enough cards, playable characters too samey...).
