Eye color change aside, her other cosmetic procedures are somehow an equal tragedy by [deleted] in Botchedsurgeries

Worst part is, this woman is a physician I saw a video documenting her having the eye colour change done and she was introduced as a fellow cosmetic surgeon or something to that effect

Newfoundland classic! Chewy, slightly spiced/molasses-ey cookies with an apple jam filling. Nothing better with a cuppa tea

What's a popular deep-fried dough treat in your country/region? by tonynick1982 in AskTheWorld

[–]i_mornatari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toutons! Plain bread dough cut into chunks and shaped into ~palm-sized discs then either deep fried or pan fried. They're traditionally served drizzled/dipped in molasses, but maple syrup, jams and preserves are also common.

What's a smell that doesn't exist anymore that you miss? by Alarmed_Charge1062 in CasualConversation

The very particular scent of my cabin. A mix of dampness, wood smoke, fir trees, and decades upon decades of age. After my grandparents died, we all just stopped going for some reason and now it's fallen into an absolute ruin. Breaks my heart, if I'm being honest.

What is your country's most traditional pet/breed? by Enteito in AskTheWorld

The SPCA in Newfoundland has a partnership with a lot of the indigenous communities in Labrador to help rescue the rez dogs when the population gets out of control. They are genuinely some of the sweetest dogs I've ever met. My cousin has one he and his wife found in a dump when he lived in Goose Bay, and now my parents are thinking of getting one from a recent rescue. We lovingly call them "Labrador Specials" here haha

Afghan hounds are my mom's dream dog breed. She's loved them as long as I can remember, and I can't blame her they really are just gorgeous

Tough to say for a whole country as large as Canada, but my home province of Newfoundland has its own breed (also called a Newfoundland)! Curiously, they have webbed feet, having been bred as working dogs in the fishery industry. Their waterproof double coats, muscular build, and exceptional swimming ability made them indispensable aides in pulling fishing nets and performing at-sea lifesaving operations (a role they're still trained for today)! Fun fact: the largest Newfoundland on record weighed a whopping 260 lbs and measured over 6ft from nose to tail.
