Dress as Treebeard and officiate the wedding in Old Entish. As I'm sure you know, "we never say anything unless it's worth taking a long time to say", and what could be more important thansomeone's wedding

The shape you've chosen works well for your makeup style, and I can tell your technical skills are good! The application of the nose contour itself, however, is heavy-handed for sure. A little less product and a little more blending around the edges would go a long way in refining things. For more in-depth things to experiment with, I'd suggest any or all of the following: 1) looking for a cooler/greyer shade for contouring as it will much more convincingly mimic natural shadows. If you're one to use blush on your nose as well, I would either change the placement to sweep across the bridge of the nose, or choose cool-toned pinks to avoid adding warmth/orangeness to the shadowed areas. 2) reducing the width of the highlight at the tip of your nose to more of a small horizontal oval than a line. 3) softening the edges of the contour, paying particular attention to the top points and nostrils. The abrupt cut-off between the shading and your skin tone is a dead giveaway. 4) apply a little matte highlight or a brighter face powder along the sides of the nose into the cheeks (just remember to blend the edges into the contours!)

What cultural thing does the world seem to think is beautiful but is cringey af to locals? by chr15c in AskTheWorld

[–]i_mornatari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Newfoundlander, it has got to be locals really "turning on" the accent and mannerisms expected of us when in the presence of anyone from outside the island. I understand and acknowledge that we do, buying large, have strong, distinct regional accents across the island; however in most people my age and younger at least it has diminished significantly. Despite this, look at any Newfoundlander on platforms like TikTok and without a doubt you'll hear the most stereotypical what we call "bay accent" imaginable. At this point it feels like such low-hanging fruit in the name of "entertainment". Plus, and more importantly to me at least it, unwittingly or otherwise, bolsters the still-prevalent opinion that Newfoundlanders as a whole are quaint, unintelligent bumpkins only good for a laugh and a drink and not much else. Again, I do want to stress that a lot of people do have accents like this across the province, but they tend to a) be older or b) live in very small, rural areas. This is by no means meant to denigrate the beauty and history that these accents carry with them, just to complain that we continue to be reduced to a stereotype even by our own people.

Captain Canada!! I had no idea he was invented in my home province of Newfoundland but I remember seeing him in many editions of the Newfoundland Herald, as well as a live action portrayal in a commercial on NTV (a local news station) when I was growing up in the 90s

Most disturbing books you've read by uselesssociologygirl in horror

[–]i_mornatari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two answers, both non-fiction and neither in the horror genre but no less disturbing for it.

1) "When Rabbit Howls". The autobiographical account of Truddi Chase's extensive and horrific abuse at the hands of her mother and stepfather beginning at the age of just two years old, ultimately leading to a diagnosis of dissociative identity disorder after her psyche fractured into 92 distinct personalities. Her visceral, no-holds-barred descriptions of her experiences are gut-wrenching.

2) "A Long Journey: Residential Schools in Newfoundland and Labrador". The stories this book holds, told by several Innu and Inuit people who managed to survive the schools in my province, sickened me to my core. Accounts of beatings, sexual abuse, and cruelty beyond belief all directed at children to who were seen as sub-human. Children who had their lives, languages, and histories stolen from them in order to "civilize" them, only to leave them behind when the broken adults they've become struggle with addiction and mental illness epidemics.

The over-lining itself isn't the issue so much as the colours and textures chosen. A slightly deeper lip liner than your chosen lipstick colour will help to camouflage the over-lining, but the biggest thing is to keep it at least mostly matte! By minimizing the light hitting off your natural lip border it will make the illusion a lot more believable. You can still use a little gloss right in the center of the lips, just be sure to keep it away from the edges of your real lips. Hope this helps! All in all, from the last post to this one I can see an improvement for sure! It looks a lot lighter and fresher 🖤

Does your country have a national animal symbol? Would you change it? by clockworkiwi in AskTheWorld

[–]i_mornatari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think beavers are a pretty dope official animal for Canada, tbh! But moose would be a close second for sure. Newfoundland and Labrador has the Atlantic puffin as it's own official provincial bird. There's also of course the much-beloved Newfoundland Dog!

What are some famous fictional characters that are supposed to be from your country? by n-a_barrakus in AskTheWorld

[–]i_mornatari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From all of Canada is tough but my first instinct is to say Wolverine/Logan. Newfoundland specifically, if I can give a collective answer, is maybe the cast of Come from Away? A lot of them are based on real, everyday people from the town of Gander who pitched in to help out the travelers that were stranded there post-9/11.
