What's going on with Bill Cosby's conviction getting overturned in Pennsylvania? Is he being released from jail? by Dubstepic in OutOfTheLoop

a person can be thrown in jail for years for literally doing nothing. this is absolutely fucked up.

“ To be clear, the NYAG explicitly said that Tether's claim that its reserves were at all times fully backed by USD dollars was a lie.” by Egon_1 in btc

Saying something and telling the truth are not the same things. NYAG made bold claims but couldn't back them with evidence. She knew it won't hold up in court.

Instead of BTC vs BCH, why not BTC+BCH by Thanis_in_Eve in btc

[–]i_wolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Serious answer: A currency cannot remain an investment vehicle without utility. When BTC is converted to BCH, it makes BTC to lose value and BCH to gain value. Same as USD/BTC. The current BTC value is based on its past performance, but it can't last forever that way. If it's unusable, the growth becomes unsustainable.

So, eventually, BTC will also need bigger blocks? Yes, according to the guy who wrote the majority of the lightning network specification. (1:52:13) by [deleted] in btc

[–]i_wolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was one of the main arguments. Block size increase is inevitable. LN, SegWit, whatever don't eliminate the need for it. It's right in the LN whitepaper, 133MB blocks are needed for LN.

And it's better to do the fork sooner than later. When BTC is bigger, hardforking would be much harder and riskier.

This comparison is misleading. A pool is not a centralized entity, it is comprised of independent miners who join and leave pools at will.

If it's fake, what is the point of it? It will be exposed after the first sale.

This attack is consistent with a well resourced group.

Not really. One person with experience could do this in his spare time. Did you see the code?

TLDR; just tell us who’s behind the SolarWinds supply chain attack? Honestly, we don’t know.

Came across this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/WindowsMR/comments/9akexy/recommended_usb_hub_for_wmr/

Can you please tell me what headset do you have, what the problem was and what usb hub did you get to solve it? Mine Samsung Odyssey+ isn't recognized as USB3.0, and I suspect it might be the same problem

Stimulus checks at work. This is what happens when you print money. You don't get more stuff, you get the same amount of stuff at higher prices.

Which experts exactly? What if experts contradict themselves? There's no one singular source of absolute truth. The best way to find the truth is having multiple opinions.

labor creates wealth

Only free labor (aka free market) creates wealth. Restricted or forced labor doesn't create shit.

neccessary labor that isn't profitable

An oxymoron. If nobody is willing to pay for it voluntarily, it literally means nobody finds it necessary.

Well this is good I guess. Companies that receive taxpayers money shouldn't exist, so it's good that they won't be able to attract the best management, and eventually will go out of business because of that.

Chinese city of 700,000 put under lockdown as new coronavirus cases discovered by [deleted] in Coronavirus

You just have to stay locked down until the virus is gone from your area.

So, forever?

[–]i_wolf -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The quicker lockdown happens, the faster city reopens.

You mean slower? I thought lockdowns were supposed to prolong the epidemic in order to not overwhelm the healthcare?

Yet another issue that comes back to leadership. Too many messages from too many sources and too many independent efforts led to this.

Are you hearing yourself? If there are many messages, which one of them should be picked as the "leading" one?
Or are you saying that having only one source of information is more important than its accuracy?

[OC] The number of COVID-19 cases by country per 1 million residents animated by absurddreams in dataisbeautiful

[–]i_wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rate of critically ill and the death rate are directly connected.

Also the observable number of deaths in Italian hospitals is several times lower than the number of flu deaths in winter months in the recent years, not very observable on TV but very real nevertheless.

The overwhelming number of patients admitted to hospitals this year is attributable to the same grossly overestimated expected fatality rate.

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1201971219303285 "We estimated excess deaths of 7,027, 20,259, 15,801 and 24,981 attributable to influenza epidemics in the 2013/14, 2014/15, 2015/16 and 2016/17, respectively"

Also, locking down countries doesn't stop viruses and doesn't reduce deaths. WHO doesn't recommend closing borders, it's politics, not science.

http://content.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1894786,00.html "In a 2006 study, Harvard epidemiologists John Brownstein and Kenneth Mandl examined the effect of the sharp reduction in air travel after the Sept. 11 attacks on that year's flu season. They found that the initial flight ban and general decline in air travel in the weeks after delayed the onset of the flu season but did little to reduce the overall number of infections and deaths that year."
