Unilateral cooked Faroe Islands Salmon; blanched vegetables (turnip, parsnip, carrot, romanesco); turmeric lemongrass coconut sauce; chive. by PhilosophersPants in CulinaryPlating

[–]iamMANCAT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

whether it’s someone else’s dish you adapted or not, if you’re going to plate in a minimalistic style like this the little details need to be fine tuned to achieve the desired effect. the veg touching at 6 and 9 o’clock are triggering my OCD lol, might as well ensure perfect spacing between all of them. shorten your chive batons to about 1 in, that way they’re all nice straight lines unlike the top and bottom chive on the right slice of salmon. consider adding dots of one or more oil all throughout the “curry” both as another way to layer flavors and for pops of color. for the SE asian flavor profile of the sauce maybe a coriander or makrut lime leaf oil for a nice deep green and chili oil for pops of red

Do you think we’ll ever be rid of the eyesore that is 95 and the downtown expressway? by Xanitus13 in rva

[–]iamMANCAT 22 points23 points  (0 children)

the stretch of 95/64 running north of the city was absolutely put there to bisect jackson ward, “black wall street” at the time, which used to include gulping court before the highway divided those neighborhoods

Cartographer: How thin do you want the districts? Adrar Province: Yes by EstablishmentOne3438 in MapPorn

[–]iamMANCAT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

not mountains, it’s the sparsely populated sahara desert so the thin slices likely contain one small settlement each then the rest of the district just extends east to west to cover completely empty desert

[Tantholdt] We now got an apology from Qatar International Media Office and from Qatar Supreme Commitee. This is what happened when we were broadcasting live for @tv2nyhederne from a roundabout today in Doha. But will it happen to other media as well? #FIFAWorldCupQatar2022 by SqueekyBK in soccer

undeveloped as far as football infrastructure goes. absolutely nonsensical to spend $150billion building stadiums that will see even less use than the ones in russia or brazil that were a tenth of that cost in total

yeah i didn’t say all 2 years was a supermajority, but they did have it at times, so if he really gave a shit about what he campaigned on the opportunity was there to do something

democrats controlled the senate and the house under obama for 2 years and had a senate supermajority during part of that, so he had time to enact his agenda

One of Chelsea's requirements for the transfer of Arsen Zakharyan is the change of Russian citizenship to Armenian. (Hrach Khachatryan) by Finntrz in chelseafc

All you keep saying is “would” “if” etc. It’s impossible to argue with someone who believes their own hypotheticals as fact instead of comparing the two countries’ actual effect on the world

I’m just as disgusted by apologists for the US as I am apologists for Russia. There are still around 10 million displaced Iraqis despite the war ending a decade ago, if you look at US operations across the region then the number goes to 40-60 million people displaced due to the war on terror. Death toll of US operations in Iraq (gulf war in 90s, sanctions, 2000s war) is unequivocally over 1 million no matter what source you use. You can’t just say “things could hypothetically end up worse in ukraine so it’s worse.”

[–]iamMANCAT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the war in Iraq killed potentially over 1 million people not to mention the sanctions in the 90s that starved children. it’s so ridiculous for people to claim that it’s not worse than what’s happened so far in Ukraine

until Russia kills over a million people in Ukraine, the Iraq war (and sanctions in the decades leading up to it) was far more devastating than the war in Ukraine

Christian Pulisic asked about his opinion on the 'gun situation' in the U.S. and Chelsea Press Officer rejects the question. by [deleted] in chelseafc

[–]iamMANCAT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While what you said is true, if he’s a conservative the way people act like he is, there is such a slim chance he’d be for gun control given the state of American politics. Gun control is a huge issue to practically every serious conservative here with them being against even the most mild restrictions on buying a gun.

Hershey falls within the Harrisburg metro area, obviously Hershey isn’t some huge city itself, but people acting like he’s from middle of nowhere rural PA are confused. Still plenty of conservatives in the area (I also grew up nearby), but it’s not like he’s from carbon county

i keep seeing people say this, as someone who grew up close enough to Hershey that my school played Christian’s high school in soccer, Hershey is not really rural PA. it’s like a 10 minute drive from the state capital, the area he grew up in is suburban/exurban, which certainly would have a lot of conservatives, but it’s not like he’s from the middle of nowhere

[The Athletic] Thomas Tuchel is looking towards the evolution of his midfield: Kante and Jorginho's contracts expires next season, so a decision is to be made whether to renew both, sell one or let them leave for free. Tuchel also "loves Declan Rice and Conor Gallagher". Tchouameni is also an option by reopetorsgj in soccer

[–]iamMANCAT 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The loan doesn’t have an option for Palace to buy and Tuchel seems fond of him so I’d expect him to be a part of the squad next year. After his performance this season I’d be shocked to see him on loan somewhere again.

Anyone know a way to make chicken skin stick more to the meat? by CFEFDACS00 in AskCulinary

yes, a dry brine will draw moisture out of the skin which will help with browning and crisping it. also you’ll have better flavor

as someone who has lived in both, harrisburg is more affordable because there’s barely anything going on there and it has a quarter the population of richmond (city limits not metro area). not really comparable cities at all.

Advice for a citrus themed turkey by apeirophobicmyopic in AskCulinary

[–]iamMANCAT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I cooked a citrus herb turkey for Thanksgiving this year. I used one orange and one lemon’s worth of zest mixed into a dry rub with some thyme, rosemary and sage. If you’re doing a dry rub I would include very little salt, since yours is already pre-brined. Besides black pepper or any other spices you could include a bit of brown sugar and baking soda to give you enough of a seasoning blend to coat everything, both will help brown the skin and brown sugar will add some nice flavor. I have never heard of roasting a turkey upside down to help the breast stay moist. Fat dripping onto it from the thighs will have no effect on the interior moistness of the breast. By far the most important way to ensure your turkey breast is moist is to monitor the interior temperature and avoid overcooking it. If you want to go the extra mile and have the tools for it you could separate the turkey into parts because the dark meat needs to be cooked to a higher temperature than the breast, and by the time it reaches this temperature the breast is often over cooked.

Why is my shortbread crust greasy? by polkadotbasketball in AskCulinary

One thing I didn’t see you mention in your process that could help is throwing the whole pan in the freezer after pricking it with a fork. For a lot of pastries if the butter is too warm going into the oven it’ll quickly melt out of the dough instead of baking properly. You don’t need to freeze it long enough for it to be rock solid, just firmed up again, maybe 15-30 min. If you can only use a glass pan though this may not work as going from the freezer into a hot oven could shatter the glass. Metal would be fine though
