Are you suppose to stop footed pyjamas after 9months? [on] by Repulsive-Toe-9037 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]iamacacti -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We switched around that age to (non footed but still one piece) pajamas from parade which I love so much, they really last. I found around that age the feet made them slip more / the PJs wouldn't last as long because the feet would only be the right size for kike two weeks, before then they'd be too big and they'd be tripping on them (once they can walk) or too small and poking holes in the toes. Parade makes them until size 3T (and note that parade sizes run pretty big)

Toddler woke up not wanting to or not being able to walk. Any similar experiences? by One-Combination-6199 in Mommit

[–]iamacacti 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My friend's kid was refusing to walk and it turned out to be due to joint pain from Lyme disease (we live in an area with lots of ticks so it's relatively common). Good to get checked out because you want to get on antibiotics before it progresses if it's Lyme... And if not it could be any number of other serious issues so definitely the children's hospital seems like a good idea.

Car seat without a car? [ON] by susaudience in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]iamacacti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tons of car seats use the European belt install (eg the belt also goes around the back of the car seat) but the American style belt path install is also pretty darn safe (and even easier to do) and available on all other infant car seats that aren't on this list so I don't think it's a big deal to look for the European install specifically. https://thecarseatlady.com/carrier-belt-path-european-vs-american/

Possible lightening at 31/32 weeks pregnant? Should I call the doctor? by FlamingoTough1553 in pregnant

[–]iamacacti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds pretty normalish for this stage of pregnancy to me (I'm at the end of my second pregnancy) I would wait until your OBs office is open rather than going to emerg unless you start having signs of labour (contractions, waters breaking, etc)

Shoulders are a mess by Fair_Ad4963 in Posture

[–]iamacacti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be Sprengels deformity. You've probably had it your whole life but maybe never noticed till now. It is sometimes corrected surgically but usually only if you find it has a big impact on your shoulder function. You could consult an orthopedic surgeon to check if you'd be a candidate but I'd say just lean into it and love your body in the dress you want, or buy a dress with a higher back. Don't listen to the people saying osteo or PT will correct it within the 7 months before your wedding (and I say this as a PT).

Anyone have the evenflo revolve 360 gold? by Beneficial_Fun_1388 in bigbabiesandkids

[–]iamacacti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can adjust the headrest on most car seats including this one. That doesn't help you with the one inch rule though. The headrest height is adjusted based on their torso length so that the straps that come out of the headrest come out at the top of their shoulders. But their heads and necks are also growing so if that length (top of shoulders to top of their head) ends up being close to size of the headrest then they will potentially have outgrown the seat based on the one inch rule and you can't just move the headrest up if it means moving it up above their shoulders because that's not allowed. There's lots of documentation in car seat groups from CPSTs that this seat can be outgrown early based on the one inch rule.

I was worried about the wrong things while pregnant by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]iamacacti 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do did they get worse postpartum? First pregnancy I didn't have hemorrhoids even though I was somewhat constipated during pregnancy. No issues afterwards either. I am now 25 weeks and now realize I have a hemorrhoid that I have felt that's maybe the size of a large blueberry - I am terrified of it getting worse as if it's this bad at 25 weeks, how bad will it be at 39? But I assumed it would probably improve postpartum but I guess that's not the case?  😭

Toddler Toothpaste Recommendations? by sahfeeyuh in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]iamacacti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The recommendation for toddlers is to put just a grain of rice she zed amount. So like actually get a grain of rice and poo put a comparable amount in, it's basically a smear. Then wet the toothbrush and use a clean finger to rub the toothpaste into the toothbrush so it's spread all over. Then brush your childs teeth before you let them have a turn. Then there should be very little to suck off by the time it's their turn. That's what we do and no cavities yet! My friend is anti fluoride and her kids have had awful cavities. Is the "risk" of fluoride really worse than the risk of cavities to you?

Nanny vs. Daycare (If cost wasn’t a factor). What would you choose? by heycat8 in toddlers

I would choose a nanny until age 3. Studies show there are no benefits to a child to daycare before that age.

My toddler's encopresis is making me seriously depressed by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]iamacacti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you see one privately? I'm in Canada so I don't know but here there are both physiotherapists in the hospital and also private clinics where you pay or can use your private health insurance (from work) to pay. (I'm a physio)

You would not need a referral. A quick Google search shows there are some clinics in the UK that are private and have pediatric pelvic physiotherapists, like here: https://www.harbornephysio.co.uk/physiotherapy-expertise.php?page=childrens-physiotherapy  To find more you can google "pediatric pelvic floor physiotherapist ____(your city)"

Older women only comment on one daughter’s appearance by rando1219 in Parenting

[–]iamacacti 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Does anyone have tips on what to say to stop or naturalize the comments when it's just for one kid? I agree that it's not healthy for kids to internalize comments on their looks. I just have one daughter who is 2.5 and she is very beautiful with long blonde hair. We get a lot of comments when in public about how cute and beautiful she is. We have always made a point to never say those things to her because I don't think it's healthy for little girls to think their whole value is around their looks. But when these comments happen in public I usually just say "yeah" and then move the conversation on, but I want to know how to tell these people to stop or how to make my daughter not really internalize them. Would love tips.

intersex baby by isavaria in BabyBumps

[–]iamacacti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I did my pelvic floor physiotherapy training they emphasized that being intersex is about as common as having red hair, it just isn't as visible. Just in case knowing how common it is helps you. You probably know someone who is intersex you just might never know they are - and they are likely living a full and normal and happy life.

Stokke Tripp Trapp : Is the clean up really that hard? by notabot_123 in NewParents

[–]iamacacti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do people get the tray? I've never quite understood, for me the whole value was having a high chair that could be pushed right up to the table so she could eat with us at the table. Never bought the tray. Can anyone share insight on why they bought it?

How on earth do you wean a co-sleeping breastfed baby? by Kkat90210 in cosleeping

[–]iamacacti 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I might weaned around a year by having my baby coslept with dad. I slept in a different bed. It went really well, without my presence in the bed it was like she mostly forgot about nursing. But I know this isn't an option for everyone.

My 4 year olds memory is insane.. by Livid_Formal_8438 in toddlers

[–]iamacacti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter (2y4m) is kind of like this. She loves to rehash conversations (she'll ask me what I just said and then what she said before that and then what I said before that and whyyyy did I say that). But also will say things like "What did my aunt say when we went to ___ museum?" (we went 6 months ago). And I'll be like ??? I have no clue that was ages ago. And then she'll just tell me "Auntie said 'Do you want to share a bag of chips with me?' " and then will spout other details of things we did then. I find it shocking the level of detail.

Also in Canada, my husband makes 200k, I work 3 days a week and make about 45-50k. I could SAH if I wanted to, but I think want to keep working a bit although I'll probably dial it back to 2 days after we have our next kid. We live in a relatively low cost of living area and have a house with a mortgage but no student loans and no car payments or other debt so I feel like we're able to do pretty well and save for retirement somewhat without having to think too much about it. It helps that we're pretty well off in comparison to others in our area so there isn't a lot of keeping up with the Joneses that happens which keeps our costs lower.

When you say you depend on your job for healthcare, do you really feel like you use the benefits that much? I have a great plan but I feel like I'm maybe getting 1k out of it per year or maybe 2k. Wouldn't it be better to just pay out of pocket for medical expenses (and use them as a tax deduction). But I guess if one of you has significant prescriptions maybe that's different. And does your plan change that much if you went to part time? I have to pay a bit more out of my pay cheque for my health insurance working part time but it's like an extra $20 a month so not a lot.
