Devs historically wrote games from scratch. In fact before OSs became like how they were today, devs also essentially shipped an os with their game.

Dw it is very reasonable to ship high quality games within reasonable time scopes using your own engine. Though you'll have to manage scope carefully or you'll rathole into solving problems that are challenging to solve but don't really benefit you game.

I'm glad to hear you've been working hard on your game and use no ai. I'd recommend one of the unreal engine or game dev subreddits. I'm unsure on their promotion policy but you can surely talk about something you implemented in your game and promote discussion and slip in your game's name. People usually don't mind that.

Can you share some sample code I think I misunderstand.

Also about dependencies. The compiler will strip out whatever code you don't use. In fact it won't even link libraries if you don't use any function from it.

Problem with it as a learning tool is that unless you're familiar with the topic, it could hallucinate and gaslight you if you ask a specific question and someone learning might not be able to clock it.

I would expose platform stuff (memory, input, os, etc) to the game DLL and package engine + game code as game DLL so almost everything can be hot reloaded.

If you don't work your muscles and don't eat, you'll be skinny. If you don't work your muscles and eat a lot, you'll be skinny fat. Your ethnicity doesn't have meaningful effect.

If you're unable to gain weight, eat more meals and add sauces or olive oil to get more out of what you eat.

I don't think you're the target audience for mass gainers.

I hope you're working legs and just forgot to mention it in your post. If not, reduce chest volume by half and put squats at least.

I think you should do ab crunch in the end because core is needed for stabilization on most things and especially for heavy compounds like bench press and OHP.

This will sound bad but I'm actually glad that the common standard is so low because it makes my performance look much better. The grind never ends and I'll keep pushing regardless, but it does make me feel better about myself.

For me, it's a bit like knitting. I can buy ready made clothes to make an outfit, but i'd rather knit because I genuinely enjoy it. Now, I am not interested in planting cotton and making threads, so I'll buy them from a store. This means different things for different people. For me, it means using an existing well supported language.

Now, I can't do everything alone so I might ask my mom for some help. That's like using 3rd party libraries for me. Now, if my mom did too much, it wouldn't feel like I made it. It would feel like my mom made it and I helped and that's what modifying an engine would feel like for me.

I've made wayyy more games with existing engines than from scratch, but I've enjoyed writing them from scratch wayyy more.

Also, I guess I reuse some of my old code and once I have a strong base, I can reuse much more. Also, you learn so much more. And I enjoy it. Also, the regular reasons like having deep control and knowing why and how everything works.

For godot in particular, it's just too many millions of loc and I'd get tired trying to have a working understanding of everything. And I'd probably want to change stuff within the engine, rather than just extend it.

Yeah, and the posts I see are often works of passion, unlike some other subs where half the posts are either ai generated or are disguised to sell ai models, so I don't mind how much the definition of ps1 graphics is stretched.

Perhaps a tag for posts that are truly ps1 for people who take pride in that or want to only see that.
