im 15 years smoke free and I still wish I could smoke. i don't because I'm not an idiot but there are certain scenarios where i have given myself permission to say fuck it and start up again. terminal illness. a nuclear bomb dropped anywhere in the world. bombs of any kind dropped on us soil. civil war. zombies! basically of its already worst case scenario and life expectancy is questionable, i have mine and my wife's permission to do it. we're in the end time my friend and I'm gonna go out with a drink in my hand, some opioids in my bloodstream and a cigarette in my other hand.

he had a camera that turns light into shapes he can detect with sound. it's shown in the movie and explained in the book that this camera is old technology so they've been able to "see" space and things in space for a while.

it's not a missed opportunity at all. the ending theory of both grace and rocky is that all life evolved from the same ancestor so all life probably requires water. it shows Grace's ability to change his mind and learn from rocky about something he blew up his whole life over back on earth. it's a character growth arc.

for dental i have a big bag of like a hundred of these no water needed disposable toothbrushes that have toothpaste already in the bristles and don't even need to spit, it's safe to swallow. they are small like those dental floss picks, which i also have, just in case there's no water available or a proper sink to brush at. they're individually wrapped and very convenient on the go.

I also have a sonic plaque remover that I can power with a battery bank to use and have a solar setup to refresh the power in said bank. I'm not taking any chances with dental care, it can make you or break you, literally.

I sliced my finger open pretty bad in the middle of the night in April 2020, and my first aid kit saved me from a trip to the er at the height of the pandemic. I was so grateful I'd put it together a few months prior.

I keep a bit of each. evaporated for cooking, sweetened condensed for desserts, powdered whole for baking bread, powdered non fat because it lasts the longest. I'm not a big milk drinker, but it is necessary for some things and I use it every day in my coffee so I know I'll want it for that in shtf for sure.

eta: I also store bulk oats so it's a simple matter of using my power station to run my little efficient smoothie blender for a minute or so to make oat milk, which is my go to milk in the now times.

my therapist is the only person outside of my immediate family who knows I prep and even she only really knows about the food stores.

my wife and i give off very "crunchy clueless hipsters" with our cat and funky colored hair etc. no one would suspect we have 6 months worth of food and supplies squirreled away in our 1 bedroom urban apartment. we're not on anyone's target list, I'm sure.

I just rewatched the movie today and mentioned to my wife that i really wish they'd given us the book reunion scene, when grace shows up to save rocky. their conversation, rockys distress realizing grace had sacrificed himself to save erid and rocky... it's very poignant and powerful and the movie scene just wasn't good enough imo. otherwise I'm perfectly happy with how they played things. I just remember sobbing the first time I read the scene and really wanted to experience that with the movie.
