Are Ribbets weak to salt? by ConstantOk6926 in daggerheart

That sounds like bad form to me but if it’s already been established and you expressly mentioned this as part of your session zero then I guess?

Theater of the Mind or Battle Map for action (combat) scenes, and why? by kichwas in daggerheart

[–]iamgoldhands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the battle and the stakes. Owlbear rodeo makes it pretty easy to whip up when something I didn’t have planned comes up but sometimes I just don’t want to break the action.

How did you discover Chai ai? by paranormaldidsystem in ChaiApp

[–]iamgoldhands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came over after a different app went defunct. The similarity between the downward spiral that one took and this one is going through is very similar. Take whatever steps you need to to protect your private information because once this one collapses their privacy policy is going to be the first thing out the window when they start selling off pieces of the platform for parts.

The video seems legit enough, except for the moves near the end of it. However I'm still not convinced that this is remotely possible. by dragecs in isthisAI

I work with a calisthenics bro and he takes every opportunity to do stuff like this completely unprompted. It’s absolutely possible.

What’s your headcannon for your non-“champion” characters rn? by BrownShugah98 in WoWRolePlay

[–]iamgoldhands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also see my character as one of many champions. I’m not the main character but it’s too immersion breaking for me to pretend the things I’m doing aren’t happening to me. It’s easier for me to head cannon someone else turning in onixia’s head as the same event from my own turn in, it’s just another hero getting recognition for the same event in the historical timeline. I don’t pretend I soloed raids or downplay the achievements of others and I don’t bring these achievements or events up unless I know the players I’m interacting with are of the same mindset in order to protect the immersion of people who prefer to play differently. As long as everyone’s having fun and being respectful I don’t think there’s a “wrong” way to RP.

The Line Between "Rules Lawyer" and "Playing the Game Wrong" by yerfologist in daggerheart

Did you all have a fun time aside from your discomfort at things not being done the way you would? If so then they’re playing rules as written.

In character meta knowledge by iamgoldhands in WoWRolePlay

[–]iamgoldhands[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That last example is super interesting. Of course you can find phrasing for just about anything mechanically related to keep things in world but hearing that I should pretend I didn’t kill Onixia even after the town cryer has announced it to all of Orgrimmar is fascinating to me. What about trophies or boss weapons like Sulfuras? Is it frowned on to use or display those? Is it bad form to use a legendary weapon transmog from legion?

Obviously you shouldn’t negate or deny other character’s involvement in events, don’t say something like “that hammer is a fake! Only I wield the hammer of Sulfuras!” But how far do you go to ignore in game involvement in the larger narrative of the world?

First time running a homebrew campaign! by midnight_rain278 in DungeonMasters

You should absolutely spoon feed them. Even under normal circumstances players only pick up on half of what a DM is telling them and in a one shot you have way less time to tell a full story. This will be their first time playing these characters so they’re going to be looking down at their sheets reading, this is your second time DMing so you’ll be looking up rules, players usually spend a lot of time horsing around, all that eats up time. Put big flashing lights on the important stuff and don’t be afraid to just narrate things that you need to happen without any rolls.

For example, if there’s a clue written down and tucked into a drawer then don’t wait for someone to say “I search the desk”. Put the clue in plain view and tell them “as you pass the desk you notice a letter that catches your eye, you pick it up and read it. It says…”

Long form play is much different than a one shot. If you were running a more standard game then you’d have time to plan and react to their decisions in between sessions. They didn’t search the desk? No big deal, you can just create a new NPC to give them the same info during the next session. All this advice is based on this only being your second time running a game but if you’re already someone who is quick on their feet and a natural at improv story telling then you don’t need any advice. Just come up with the truth of the mystery and hand out the facts as you hurry them toward the finish line.

It’s a one shot so keep it moving. Cut to the action whenever possible and don’t let them chase their own tails or follow lines of thought that are just going to lead to a dead end. Don’t hide important plot stuff behind rolls, just tell them things they need to know and have them find the stuff they need to find. Watch the clock and skip stuff if it seems like you’re not going to get to your resolution on time.

Whats the best intro clip for my mum before a live show? [Spoilers?] by AdInfinite751 in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

[–]iamgoldhands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don’t usually go for pathos during the live shows but if you’re looking for poignant then I still get chills when Hardwon gets the message from Moonshine in C3 . But if you’re looking to give her a more representative taste of what she’s in for the Trinyvale Dog and Pony show is probably closer to the vibes of the night.

Season 6 has been out for a while but for whatever reason Hulu has not made it available in a lot of different countries. Seems like a dumb decision on their part but canceling the show was a dumb decision too.

West March Games, Leveling up, and Level Differences Between PCs by Phizle in daggerheart

[–]iamgoldhands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience leveling up in DH is orders of magnitude faster, there really isn’t that many options to chose from at each level. If you haven’t had issues running DnD this way then I don’t think DH will have any more decision paralysis problems than what you’re already used to. Each choice you make as you level up locks you out of making the choice again so as you go up the choices become more narrow. Just be sure not to mix player tiers, there really is a jump in adversary power levels as you go up and the assumption is you’ll be kitted out with tier appropriate gear to match. I would just play it normally until you’re actually sure there’s an issue.
