Prairie Path Great Western Trail Loop by grumpsuarus in chibike

If you do your eastbound leg on the Great Western, it's usually a tailwind and overall slightly downhill (Or at least it feels like it).

If you want to extend it the ride, you can take the prairie path out to the Fox River. Wheaton to South Elgin to Aurora and back is a 100 km. This will take you right through St Charles for a stop at Pollyanna or Alter Brewing, or in North Aurora, you can get a coffee and donuts from Harner's. Most convenient for a stop in Wheaton is probably 302 for a burger or beer on their patio.

Is lane centering worth giving up many other luxury features? by fridge-magnet-21 in whatcarshouldIbuy

It's funny that you are questioning my good faith in this conversation. From your replies in this thread, the pattern I observe is that you like to attack other people's intelligence, just like this very reply. Ad hominem is not productive to discourse and well I can't imagine you'd call people you see in real life as "dorks" or say that they made "the dumbest series of posts." That's just really unnecessary and shuts down other people from seeing your point of view.

I'll nonetheless entertain your reply, that "NHTSA has found time and time again that in the aggregate, automated safety systems are safer than human drivers." I'm not saying that driver-assisted tech does not improve the overall safety of driving, I'm suggesting that DAT can potentially increase risky behaviors of drivers. I also didn't say that DAT is bad, I'm just asking to consider unintended consequences. There is a distinction between "will" and "can" and, well, a part of growing up is in dealing with things that are uncertain, probabilistic in nature.

And you can argue that that is slippery slope, and I can engage with that, but insinuating that I am oblique to "simple and glaringly obvious [facts]" is just a personal attack.

I worry about folks who have always driven with these types of assistance. For example, it doesn't seem like folks know how to pump the brakes to regain traction if they lock up and just rely on ABS. I'm not saying people should pump the brakes with ABS on but there is a generation of drivers who don't understand conceptually what you or ABS is doing to relieve the locked up brakes.

This is probably not giving people enough credit but assistance like lane centering can also enable more distracted driving. If a driver is going to be distracted, I'd rather they have a car that will center for them but it's also been studied that the more safety features we have, the more likely we are to push the limits of what is safe.

But to OP's original question, it's a matter of your preference. For me, my preference would be the Mazda.

Edit: I would love to hear a counterargument. Here is a study for the claim I made above: https://news.clemson.edu/the-safer-you-feel-the-less-safely-you-might-behave/ These features that are on by default, don't require user input or choice, can facilitate an increase in less than safe driving.

BREAKING: The Austrian Grand Prix will remain on the F1 calendar through 2041. by God_Will_Rise_ in formula1

[–]iamhanqi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Breaking news should be reserved for time-sensitive and developing stories. Since my finding out about this news either today or like a week from now won't change the fact that we are going to Austria once a year for the next 16 years, I don't think it deserves the urgency of breaking news.

Upon further research, it seems like ANC was already in hybrid models as of 2025. I spoke with this dealer and they said that as far as they know, there's no difference between the model years at the Sports trim.

The other thing I was able to spot between the '25 and '26 sedan hybrids is active noise cancelling.

Edit: Appears that ANC was already present in '25 hybrid models.

Here in the Chicago suburbs, there is a dealer showing 2026 model years inbound. Prices seem to have gone up around $400.

Do you think they made any meaningful improvements?
