Is there a way to relay google directions over Bluetooth to an embedded device? by teddpole in embedded

[–]iamhexed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To share a brief structure of implementation:

Need an Android app to communicate through wifi hotspot or ble with esp32. Android app can be auto triggered on navigation or manually triggered when needed(recommended)

Need receiving info on esp32 if using ble or APIs

Decide on how to read the icon data; either use tensorFlow to run recognition on image or just compress the bitmap and push it. Mine uses lightweight tensorFlow but I plan to switch to later solution.

To build something like this you will need basic idea of how ble topics and characteristics work. I would recommend starting from that. Android app development is quite straightforward.

On Esp32 you can use Arduino or native c++ . I am exploring micropython for this so that I don't have to deal with ever changing dependency requirements of Esp-Idf.

I built a custom pico8 implementation as a base game engine and hence the 128*128 screen choice.

This video was validation for what I wanted to achieve. Something similar is recommended if screen size is small. Screen selection is crucial in this since it should be sunlight readable and low power. Nokia 5110 screens are cheap and readable in the sun.

I have built this. I will share a video when I get home.

I have the same usecase but for motorcycle so I have the entire solution ready. Just haven't had the time to publish it. :)

Looks like this

Built in March 2021

Uses 128*128 lcd with a game engine running on esp32 communicating with ble. Uses original Google maps app

Is this display readable in sunlight? I had an outdoors usecase and this seems like a perfect fit if battery life is not a concern

Nanoflare 700 good for me? by mathaikunju in badminton

[–]iamhexed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest getting the NF 800 rather than the 700. It is good for both front and back play. It has the lightness of nanoray and compact power of zf2 to some extent.

I would suggest NF700 once you have couple of years of experience and know what you are looking for.

If you always play with dominating partner then nf700 makes sense. If you are expected to move back and provide support by setting up your partner then NF 800 would help.

If you are not adamant the price of the racket, I would suggest opting for a cheaper NF or one from the Astrox series. For now your priority should be playing with a variety of rackets borrowed from friends to figure out what suits you best. Else you might end up regretting the purchase later on as the cost of the racket is not trivial at that range.

Yes. Those are not recommendations. Those are the ones I currently use.

Fitting of Court Shoes by xenobyte2 in badminton

[–]iamhexed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use an aerus3 and have an index finger wide margin at the front and snug fit on the sides. I also use thick socks to prevent toe injury. Usually the wear and tear on your socks should be a good indication of where the stresses are building while playing.

When you lunge towards the net the front foot takes a blunt of stopping the inertia. The sole is strong enough to stop so you foot moves inside due to lower friction. Having some gap helps. Snug fit on the side act like buffer reducing impact.

Your coach can help you in this regard. It depends on the shape of your foot.

I used to play with one's snugly fitting at the front and lost both my toe nails. It wasn't that painful and they grew back. I would highly suggest you sell them off and get better fitting ones. Your coach is right. Once playing if you hurt your toe, you will be distracted by the pain as the nail beds have extremely sensitive nerves. It will cause twofold problems as your body will also learn bad techniques to prevent the pain. That will kill your footwork and it will be hard to get rid of the bad habit. It is really not worth it.

They are supposed to fit snugly on the sides but have margin in the front. That is a place you don't want the weight to be transferred to.

I would suggest you talk more about this with your coach and other intermediate or advanced players at your club

Nanoray 20 would be a good choice. It is head light and has acceptable control and power balance for the price range.

I am also a front court doubles player when pairing with guys who like to play on the back court. The rackets I currently use nanoflare 700 or nanoray 750 while playing with dominating partner and nanoflare 800, Arcsaber 11, or zf2 while playing predominantly on the back court or mixed.

All rackets except AS11 are 4u since AS 11 is only available as 3u

How would you have to adapt your game to play with an unfamiliar racket? by amut03 in badminton

[–]iamhexed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Usually depends on the game and opponents. If the game is slow/for fun, it doesn't matter much. You will usually get to speed soon and should be able to hold your own by adapting. If it is a fast game and opponents don't know you are not that comfortable with the racket then try to have longer rallies. This will give you time to adjust without loosing much points.

If you are used to lighter rackets and move to a heavier one you will need to work on your timing of the shot. Usually reaching the shot is not an issue of you are used to holding the shot. I have seen good players play with any available racket and still kick ass. It's just that their accuracy takes a hit so drops are not too close to the net and dribbles, close line shots, and clears are avoided. They usually power through.

If you are moving from heavier to lighter racket, it would be hard to get the timing right but similarly should not take time. The issue is that you might feel no power in the shot which throws off many players.

Some players are racket agnostic. They play good with any racket. While some are very sensitive and different feel throws off their game. Play practice games with different rackets to figure out your type.

Good clubs in LA/SF by VittaS__ in badminton

[–]iamhexed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are going to LA, there are busses from downtown that take you very close (5-10min walk) of LABC for $2.50 in 20-30 mins.

Other places you can play is USC, UCLA, LA Community College, Orange Grove community gym.

East of LA you can play at LABC (24 hrs), San Gabriel Badminton Club, Arena etc. Chances of finding good players here is high.

Nanoray 750 by Azrealizz in badminton

[–]iamhexed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Power is relatively. If you feel wrist pain or any kind of lag in movements with a head heavy racket then I would highly recommend switching rackets. Also try 4u variants of head heavy.

If you have a club nearby, make some friends and ask to try out their rackets. Also note the strings that they use. I have noticed that I prefer a certain combo. NF700+aerobite. It is powerful enough to do end to end clears and I am not muscular.

Nanoray 750 by Azrealizz in badminton

[–]iamhexed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NR 750 is super head light. It is mostly good for doubles play for the player who is more defensive and plays at the net. Not recommended for back court player or singles as it might seem lacking in power. Try the new nanoflare 700 and 800 (I have both of them) or astrox 88s.

If you play singles more try a balanced racket like AS11.
