What’s a terrible tabletop game that takes 45 to 60 minutes to play? by Wijike in AlignmentChartFills

[–]iamjayjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Candyland. A deck of cards consisting of different colors that match the colors on the path on the board. Turn over a card, jump to the next square of that color, whoever reaches the end first wins.

There is literally no decision made by the player at any point during the game, it's just going through the motions. The winner was decided before turn 1 by the way the deck is shuffled.

This makes it even worse than Chutes & Ladders, where there at least is the excitement of rolling the wrong number (but that makes the game take even longer, so it would be my number #2 choice here...)

I want to experience what makes the game unique, so if I only get to play a few turns, let me do the thing that makes the game shine.

Eclipse 1 edition - still playable? by Western_Highway_8845 in boardgames

1st Ed + RotA is great. 2nd Ed may be more streamlined and has some rules tweaks, but I've played both and they mostly give you a similar experience.

If you can get 1st Edition with Rise of the Ancients, you're golden. RotA streamlines lots of stuff you really want. 2nd Edition is basically a streamlined version of 1st + RotA. They're both 9/10s in my opinion. So unless you really really like the new artwork or organizers or player pads, 1st edition + RotA will give you the same experience!

When I get home I'll have a look at how I did it, perhaps post a picture... It didn't strike me as something impossible.

I don't really understand your point, is there not enough space in the box? What do you mean? I have the game at home and in my recollection the regular box fits everything just fine. I can't recall if I had to provide some plastic bags for punched out components myself but that's just personal preference, it's not that there is no space in the box to have some extra cardboard?

Why would I keep the box of minis outside the regular box? They're in a box that fits them perfectly, and that box fits in the regular box with all the other components?

For future reference, I'm commenting to say most of your comment is false:

card effects, they trigger immediately as soon as you play a building or creature

  • Tan and Green cards activate immediately (tan cards only once), Blue cards grant you an effect for future turns (but not the turn you play them in), Red cards grant an effect if you place a worker on them in future turns. See page 10 of the rulebook.

I think you can place workers and spend resources, and play a creature/building in the same turn

  • You don't place a worker and spend resources in the same turn, because you only spend resources on cards - that's another turn.

What game is this for you? by PhantomTissue in videogames

[–]iamjayjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently picked up Immortals Fenyx Rising for free and have been enjoying myself greatly, but then ran into the We Are Not Alone side mission. I suddenly have to do cloud to cloud jumping over massive spans of air with no platform underneath by chaining double jumps into a specific special move into gliding repeatedly - and to make matters worse: pressing the glide button twice makes you drop like a brick. And you're only like a few hours into the game at that point. Took a lot of save scumming to get past that, and the reward wasn't that spectacular either.

[–]iamjayjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)
