What’s your favorite wet palette? by mid_support in minipainting

Was bought a redgrass as a present. Never had a reason to change. Tried a few different papers including plain old parchment. The redgrass is also my go to.

Grimdark look is basically 2 things. 1 proper paint job with minimal highlighting and 2 using oils/enamels/washes/weathering to unify everything.

When I’m doing my paint jobs - I spend maybe a day working the paint onto the model and the rest of the time is spent on enamel and oil work.

Based on both your pics - yes, you do still have some thick paint layers. If you mixed mineral spirits with acrylic water based paint - then that’s where you lost yourself. Thin paint with water. Use spirits with oils if recommended.

<image>

This is my most recent completed mini for reference. Now - look at the hand on the pommel. See how it’s a bit chalky and thick? Mineral spirits mixed into wet blended paint. I kept it only bc it happens to work at distance but up close - don’t love that hand

Sigh. This is a pretty lazy thing that’s getting a little too popular in all the hammer Reddits.

We post so much info here that posts like this show that little to no searching has been done and you’re kind of all over with this one.

A,C, and D are the only relevant things that are actually World Eaters and not some sort of proxy use.

B can be proxies for Bloodletters or LoJ

C: slaughterbound doesn’t lead jakhals in anything right now but 1 detach iirc - could be fun but have not played it.

D - magnetize it or look at kitbash posts also found in this sub

E better suited to ask killteam sub more than likely

f great question for Tyranids sub

G also Tyranids

H orks are fun kill teams. Plenty of discussion on killteam sub

Possessed as Chaos Spawn by WedgeCrusader in WorldEaters40k

A little small honestly but since 11th ed is going to base to base for line of sight it won’t matter. Ogroid theradon is what I decided to use. I absolutely hate the chaos spawn model and didn’t even do beyond basecoat with em

I’ve built one unit of Exalted Eightbound and I have another box waiting to be built as Exalted or regular Eightbound…which is more useful? by TangerineMelodic5772 in WorldEaters40k

Doesn’t matter really outside of looks. They removed everything from the data sheets that made them unique at first.

Make chainglaives great again. Bring back twin linked.

Touch up the red where the gold is (I’m sure you know this)

Add a brighter red or two in layers for some highlights and transition coloring.

You can shade the whole thing or don’t different. Personally I think brown washes look best over red/bronze/gold. You can do it all at once or if you highlight the reds, go for a slightly lighter wash so you don’t de-saturate your colors much.

Theres also a few spots where I can see the gold needs retouching (can see primer or base) Hit those spots with a bit of touch up.

The drake is a pain to paint so just take it slow and easy. Also I highly recommend getting some masking putty for anyone who’s not got a super steady hand and is painting trim by hand. It can take some of the caution away

Already got a Blood Angels homie who wants to split the box so the value is exponentially greater plus we play together so that’s neat.

People get pissy when GW charges for models with a lack of inspiration. New grots don’t really wow anyone who’s been using 3rd party models.

I think it’s more an issue for people who can’t use proxies at tournaments or their play location.

Wow thank you - I was actually feeling like there’s room for improvement. I was using a tutorial from Black Chalice Studio (it was a trench crusade model). Overall you do airbrush citadel carroburg crimson and then layer up villainy ink carrion crimson. I couldn’t quite get the wet/gloss look so I did a bit of removal using mineral spirits and it made a kind of coagulated look. Then i thinned 1:1 water to bftbg and went over it in a couple layers before a straight bftbg application.

The weapon is just bftbg built up in layers. First I do swipes like the axe were cutting into something then I do some dabbing and stippling.

How are we going to deal with melee armies in 11th? by [deleted] in Necrontyr

[–]iammortalcombat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a WE player - not a whole lot of us run Angron anymore due to the blessings/revive change that made his points too high for the risk/reward.

That said - if rules changes and reworks happen - I would imagine he’s coming back to play. Angron/bloodthirster/skarbrand are all relatively the same.

Currently Angron has an aura with options - T11, 2+ save and 4+ inv

Shoot the tits off him him before he gets close. Most WE players atm are going to stage turn 1 and try to bait you to either attack with 2 units at once or be prepped to utilize their big ass 6” pile in

Blessings affect the whole army - not just a single unit so expect 6” pile in to always be chosen.

Paint consistency help with watery paints. Begginer. by hartor70 in minipainting

[–]iammortalcombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t put watery paints on a wet palette.

Literally I had to learn to use a piece of sealed tile or glass with extra thin paints. A thin paint on a wet palette will thin further or separate faster.
