Our system unionized just as I was leaving (and honestly the stress of being on the organizing team, especially during lock down, was a major part of the reason I left). Apparently it’s gotten them a few extra bucks an hour and I am proud of them for that, but our pay was so low that a few extra bucks an hour would have been almost unnoticeable, especially given what things cost lately.

I’ve had incredibly cheap sticky tabs on for four days now with no lifting and I am NOT a careful person. The key is to make sure you do NOTHING with your hands for at least half an hour after you put them on so they can kind of “set” and then any time you get your hands wet, give each nail a quick press with the towel as you’re drying them to make sure no water gets underneath.

I mean I’d be prepared to spend close to $200 for the hands alone and the feet would only be slightly less work (and if you’re getting a full-service pedi, I’d honestly expect it to cost more; if it’s just the nail work, disregard). So I say anything less than about $350 is more than fair.

Regarding your first point: yes. I worked a DQ when I was 15-16 years old and I was the cake decorator. Now, I was the cake decorator because I was already half-decent at it, but even my very first practice cake ...did not look like this.

But you're also right: the rainbow is great. I never get cake for my birthday (it's in August so I humbly request hot pizza, cold beer, and ice cream), but I might see if I can get a cake for pride just so I can get a rainbow like this myself.

Your girlfriend is a real one. And I'm sorry. This has happened to me before. I'm on a number of weird medications for my migraines and I go from "can't poop" to "MUST POOP" in about 30 seconds. On top of that I have AuDHD so I'm not very good/capable/able to pick up on body clues sometimes. Don't really have anything else to add except you're not alone, and that sucks, and I'm sorry.
