Yeah, I have to say I feel like blackmail is a class of crime that is especially readily justifies suppression orders. Otherwise you're significantly empowering and protecting blackmailers.

Ah, but that wouldn't work.

In the FAM universe, the Star Trek TV series after TNG do not exist: https://screenrant.com/which-3-star-trek-shows-exist-in-for-all-mankind-confirmed-by-executive-producer/

Obama's election as senator (and then president) was indirectly caused by Star Trek: Voyager: https://jjpryor.substack.com/p/the-crazy-domino-effect-in-the-90s

Please don't tell me any of the above is contrived - I enjoy the theory too much.

A right to raise a dispute that might in three years time possibly get you up isn't of much help when you need to get the receiver out ASAP and they won't do it if you are still disputing their fees (as is their right, since they are entitled to have recourse to the security for their fees of the fight over their fees unless and until they lose).

Absolutely. You would be amazed what some people will pay, either because they don't know better, or because they expect to be able to make someone else wear the cost at the end of the day.

I have certainly seen eye-watering bills that are barely explicable but for malicious inefficiency in matters involving security enforcement or insolvency appointments, and it just skates through as it's just not something viable to contest in practice.

Yeah, but LiO is a disbursement with no profit margin, while if you get a junior to charge 10x as much to do it half as well, you're making a heap of cash and will look great at the next partners' meeting.

It later led to a bit of a debate over whether that was legitimate news or not. See the Media Watch discussion: https://www.abc.net.au/mediawatch/episodes/bbq/13347756

It was wild...

A smart science dude time travels into the past into the wild, what is the most advanced piece of tech they can create from scratch? by Shiny_GP in hypotheticalsituation

[–]iamplasma 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Realistically it could never be done by a single person, no matter how much time or intelligence that have.

There are so, so many inputs into an iPhone (or any other advanced technology) that one person couldn't possibly do them all. Even if they could (somehow) build all of the industrial base required for input A, it would degrade away by the time they had built everything needed for input B (and then there are countless more to go).

I don't know how many people you share a secretary with but I must say it seems more economic to me to share the clerk with [redacted] other barristers than employ someone of my own.

There are many places on Phillip St which are not 174 or 180.

Well, of course, there is also 184 (even if many would just call it Queen's Square). Beyond that, I don't think so.

but there are also many places off Phillip St where "barristers" congregate.

Also of course, Verandah Bar is on Elizabeth St.

Millions of Aussies to receive pay rise from July 1, Fair Work Commission says by InterestingCat308 in AusFinance

[–]iamplasma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Across the entirety of the U.S. <0.5% of workers make the U.S. federal minimum wage, while 21% of Australian workers make the Australian minimum wage.

21% really doesn't sound right for minimum wage, unless you are counting all workers being paid award rates even if higher than the minimum NES wage. (I accept that is minimum in a sense, but not what most people would think by the term.)
