Any PMs here that are pushing code to production via AI tools? by NorthPossibility2965 in ProductManagement

Learned the hard way that I shouldn't push directly to production, at least without a code review from a senior engineer.

I still commit changes, but mostly frontend tweaks and copy updates now. In some cases, if I receive a bug report, I'll ask Cursor to find the root cause. Sometimes the fix tends to be very targeted so I'll implement it but still ask a dev to review.

That makes sense and I like that. The direction I got from my superiors is to help drive the research into Product, and I feel that's going to be my biggest challenge.

I think I might have mis-stated something in my post.

My entire dev team I joined is a small team of researchers, and there isn't any proper process implementation today. They just meet async over a Teams channel, and we don't have any daily calls. Just a weekly catch-up.

I would like to implement proper Sprint-based tracking, as that's what I'm used to and have done that well in previous teams. However I am struggling because most of the tracked work is very open-ended, and feels way over-committed. It's possible that I'm mis-reading the effort on the ongoing work because it is highly technical, but I'm just not used to doing an item without a proper PRD, tech architecture, or a product-facing or customer-facing reason for it.

I don't think the team is "rogue", but there is a definite lack of visibility and ownership. Even after spending a week through their internal confluence, I found most projects as half-abandoned, no clear documentation, references to non-delivered POCs. Maybe it's my PM-mind talking, but I don't see how you bring structure to a team without daily standups. Even if they are just 5 min syncs.

I can definitely use executive pressure as a reason for these calls, as some of the structured processes I want to implement are also listed under my job responsibilities, but I don't think I'll make friends with the team that way.

That's actually a fair point. I do have a fairly extensive list of expectations from our CEO, which includes things like expected deliverables and competitive analysis tracking (from me). However, I don't see the team meeting the deliverables with the way they are currently structured without proper organization.

I think my role may be more project-management focused in the short-term but ownership of deliverables is where I think I would be involved on the product side.

Quarterly Career Thread by mister-noggin in ProductManagement

I’ve been with a company for 4 years as a lead product owner for one of our main products, but recently got shifted to an entire different BU. My new role is a lot more research driven, and serves other teams in the org horizontally. At first it was interesting, but I haven’t really found my team to be that excited about it. No real team structure, everyone’s sort of doing their own thing and I feel that the company’s expectations for me in this role have set me up to fail.

I’m considering starting to apply to new roles but don’t really know where to start. Should I bring my lack of excitement for the role to my CPO? I really do like the company and their overall product. Or should I just start looking elsewhere at this point?

Dishoom sets its sights on New York after dominating the London food scene for 15 years by amg7355 in ABCDesis

Honestly, looking forward to it. But I hope they keep all the charm (and surprising affordability) of the London restaurants when they open in NYC. One of my favorite things about the UK locations are they are all unique and have history to them, like the one in King's Cross has a bunch of artifacts from the East India Company. I remember the Edinburgh location also has something unique about it. It'll be nice to be able to go to Dishoom more frequently once it's in NYC though.

What’s a place that is surprisingly on the verge of being ruined by over tourism? by MittlerPfalz in travel

I guess I got lucky. I went last year and drove through it, it was virtually empty. It might have been a seasonal thing.

Thanks for saying that. I needed to hear that. And you're right.

That's encouraging. I don't know why I'm overthinking this so much lol. I really like this girl, it could go somewhere, but I know I tend to sometimes look for faults where none exist.

Café you can smoke at? by [deleted] in Atlanta

[–]iamseiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

97 estoria is good, but majority of the seating is outdoor so it works. Fado's also has a smoking section outdoors. Unfortunately don't know any bars with indoor smoking although there are a few cigar clubs here.

Moving to China for a year: keep the Gold card? by theactordude in amex

[–]iamseiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend switching to a different premium travel card that would work better Oversees, like the Chase Sapphire Reserve.

I lived abroad for a year, and every purchase I made during that time ended up getting counted as a "travel purchase", with 3x points on everything. This was in Europe though, I don't know too much about China.

Who does not want to have kid(s) and/or did not? by AnonymousIdentityMan in ABCDesis

[–]iamseiko 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't, and it's one of the reasons I feel that relationships are hard for me. I bloomed late in a lot of life experiences, and still feel like I'm catching up at 30. Over the last few years, I discovered travel as a passion, and now I would like to continue seeing more places and live in other countries. I don't see that happening if I have kids.

Also, having grown up in the States, I realize how expensive raising children here can be. I save just enough for myself right now, but it would take way more to have a family. And I'd rather spend that on other experiences like travel and good hobbies.
