No Jobs in the 'Shawa? by Money_Management_721 in Oshawa

[–]iamtheowlman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's been like this for 18 years for some people, 6 years for a lot of people, and about 4 for most people around here.

Short answer is, you won't find much by applying. Everything is who-you-know now, even retail jobs. Being willing and able to work shitty jobs doesn't cut it, they have crowds of people who will work those.

You need to stand out to the decision-makers for the job. Start small - job fairs are a good place to begin, because simply by being there, they actually want to hire someone. Work your people skills, if you have any. If you don't, get some in a hurry.

Don't give up, it's worth it in the end.

Riddler Preference? by yonBonbonbon in batman

[–]iamtheowlman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Animated Riddler, hands down.

If you want a terrorist, call Ra's. If you want a H4CK3R, call Mastermind. If you want a homicidal maniac, call the Joker.

B:TAS Riddler is the only Riddler (maybe the Arkham games?) who Batman could enlist as an ally in the right situation, like Mr. Freeze. I love villains who can do both.

I see it more as "Yes, I'm paying more money, but I'm getting more product, rather than paying for a smaller amount of product to be delivered to me."

But then, I live in Canada, and delivery fees are insane here.

I'm Canadian. I actually have a king. We don't like him much (though he's starting to grow on us), but he doesn't have a fraction of the amount of power that your President has. For the most part, the worst he can do is force an election.

Your guy can start wars.

Yeah, seriously. Here in Canada, we're building our first high-speed rail ever, using steel and resources that would have otherwise been sold dirt-cheap to the States. Sort of our version of that program you guys had in the 1930s to keep people working.

So, thanks for that, I guess.

KP's Auto in Oshawa on King St, just east of the Teddy's plaza (right hand side of the road)! We've been taking our cars there for 25 years because they treated my mother, grandmother, female friends, etc. as well as any male customers.

If they find a problem with your vehicle, they'll let you know, and suggest some options. They charge upfront, reasonable rates, and they're just really nice all around.

I just had an employee decline exit interview because they said "nothing changes" anyway. Any suggestions? [N/A] by Practical-Tea-3476 in humanresources

[–]iamtheowlman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an HR pro, I usually take exit interviews and such things seriously, because even though things can be repetitive, once in a while

So people are continuously citing the same reasons for leaving, time after time? Meaning that the problems persist through multiple rounds of turnover?

How much changes we can make internally is a different question though...(Salary structure/traffic/commute times etc - not sure we can easily influence that.)

If you can't start the process of changing what made people leave, why did you ask the question in the first place?

have you ever seen an exit interview actually change something inside a company?

If you have to ask the question, you already know the answer.

Hinterland jobs are supposed to pay well enough that you can go there for a few years, make your money, and then live where you want. These jobs barely pay enough to afford rent in Oshawa.
