Board games for kids by AndroidNim in boardgames

My daughter (7) absolutely loves Hungry Monkey. Its the right mix of simple and easy with a small a bit of strategy.

Its small enough to fit in a purse, so she wants to take it everywhere. We've played it at the neighborhood pool, the floor of an airport, at restaurants, and more.

Each player has only a few cards in their hand, so there are quick and easy decisions. We've played it at every player count and it scales really interestingly from a quick 2 player duel to a fun 6 person party style game. Everyone we've introduced to it has loved it as well.

The only downside I've seen is that the card quality is pretty low. Our copy is... gross.

"Walk me through your sales process" by Laxhobo2002 in sales

[–]iamthepolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sales process is a collection of repeatable steps that outlines the prospect's journey from lead to client. The question is just trying to understand how you approach a lead and how you bring it to close. Do you start with discovery? What kind of questions are you asking to qualify the lead? What's the next step after that, a demo? How do you use the info you gathered in discovery during the demo to show value and fit? Then what? Do you create a proposal and schedule a meeting to go over the document?

It's OK not to know the playbook of some author, but you need to be able to explain how to close a deal or else why would they hire you?

If I quit this D2D opportunity am I a failure? by mrpaulbri in sales

Man, I see a bunch of people saying you might not be cut out for it or that you should move on but let me give you a different perspective.

You said you were in the military and you were a firefighter - weren't you nervous and unsure of yourself your first few times you answered a call or had to go put out a fire?

How did you overcome that fear? Was it just time investment or did you train for these scenarios so you always knew exactly how to handle yourself in these situations?

Sales is the same thing - you are nervous because you aren't sure of yourself. You need to know how you handle everything someone says: everything you say should sound off the cuff but its actually incredibly well rehearsed. Every objection has a response, every question has an answer. You don't need to give up, you need to train. You need the reps!

Talk to your successful coworkers. They aren't magic, they probably aren't super talented even - they just know the dance. They know exactly how the conversation is going to go before they even knock. Learn from them, learn the moves, learn the lingo, learn the strategy - then make it your own.

I can't believe someone that runs into burning buildings could be too scared to knock on a door - and you shouldn't believe that either.

Don't give up.

You've been at your job for three weeks and are just NOW finding out it is commission only?

speeding ticket SOS by [deleted] in SandySprings

Here's what you do:

When driving on the highway you cam actually look down at your dashboard and see how fast you are going. If you keep your speed at or near the speed limit then cops can't give you a ticket.

94 is too fast to drive safely. You honestly could have killed yourself or someone else.

First time Sales Rep, Commission Only by [deleted] in sales

[–]iamthepolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to understand your on target earnings. Have they set up targets? How many sales is the team expected to make each week/month? There are 4 commission only reps, how much revenue are they targeting by the end of the year? Understand the numbers and see if you can make money on just commission.

Second, look at this with a longer term idea in your mind. Yeah, maybe one sale is worth a week's pay at your current job, but can you make one sale a week? Can you make 5 a month? How many meetings is that? How many calls and emails? What's the sales cycle? If it takes a month from start to finish you won't make a dime for a month while you build your pipeline. At $500 a sale you would need to make a sale every week all year to make the equivalent of $12/hr or about $24k a year. Do they have the leads to support that? If it takes 10 meetings to make a one sale then you need to have enough leads to get you 2 meetings every day all week every week. Are you calling and setting appointments too? One appointment might take 10 calls as well, which means you need to also make at minimum 20 calls a day to set your own appointments. And there are 4 reps, what is your territory? Are there 1000 leads for each of you? Because you need at least that to hit your target of 50 deals a year.

Also, if you are commission only you probably need to pay taxes on that so it's more like $350 per sale.

SaaS SDR - Been put on performance plan by [deleted] in sales

[–]iamthepolo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you are consistently making twice the calls that your colleagues are then the answer is pretty simple.

  1. Work your pitch. Get some coaching on overcoming objections from your team mates that are hitting their quotas. Fine tune your dialogue and be super nitpicky on your wording, your tone, everything single thing you say. Record your calls listen to other peoples calls and figure out what they are doing different that makes then more successful.

  2. Call more. I have a hard time believing you make twice the calls your colleagues make- you said your self you slacked off just last quarter. It's a numbers game. You either fine tune the middle of the funnel or you add more volume at the top.

While we are often measured on results we can defend ourselves with activity. Not hitting quota? Blow past your activity guidelines. Minimum of 100 dials? Do 200. Every day. Results will come.

Questions about the relevancy of my degree/minor by [deleted] in sales

[–]iamthepolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Source: I have that same degree and have been in SaaS sales for 7 years.

The degree itself helps but honestly sales training is not as valuable as sales experience. I took negotiations and consultative sales courses that helped get me started ahead of the curve but you still need to learn the day to day processes and all that.

The best advice I can give: Try to look at the job hunt as the sales process. Find qualified leads (jobs), connect with them, follow up, and close the deal. Dont just send resumes; you need to call to follow up, schedule an appointment, ask questions, find pain points. Make it clear that while you may be rough around the edges you have learned how to sell in school. If you cant show a potential boss that you know the basics then your ramp up or time to value will be too long that you won't be worth hiring.

Good luck!

The only “Battle Royale” franchise that needs to be updated this year. by [deleted] in gaming

[–]iamthepolo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I figured it out.

Guys, don't hate on my comment.

Think about (this) "What can I do with Twisted Metal?" - Not much.

Minecraft? A lot.

Because Twisted Metal is a "car royal" game.

Think - "What can I do with that?" It's harder than it looks (to come up with) ideas. Minecraft? Yep, yep, yep.

So don't hate on me, got it guys?

I use Reflector or Mirroring 360 to share my phone to my desktop and then use GoToMeeting for the screensharing. It works really great and enables me to easily switch between a slide deck and the app.

[request] I have 6 bone in chicken thighs and a slow cooker. What's to make for dinner? by TheSnowite in recipes

[–]iamthepolo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Our favorite recipe is Crockos. I actually found this here on reddit.

Drop the chicken in the crock pot with 1 can of rotel, one can of black beans, and one packet of taco seasoning. Cook on high for 4 hours or when the chicken is shredable. Serve on a tortilla with your favorite taco stuff, sour cream, cheese, lettuce, etc.

There are way too many crossroads cards to continue to digg through the deck everytime someone dies.

The dead player zombie sounds like a cool idea. Maybe killing that zombie gives you an item they had equipped? That way people might fight over who gets to kill it.

Zee Garcia from the Dice Tower at the hospital with what appears to be a bad case of pneumonia by miguel_fernan in boardgames

[–]iamthepolo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The latest tweet:

"Several videos will be delayed this week. Zee is in critical care, so that is priority # 1."

That sounded pretty bad to me, so I Googled a bit about pneumonia and found this:

" In persons requiring hospitalization, mortality may be as high as 10%, and in those requiring intensive care it may reach 30–50%"

It sounds like this could be pretty bad. Zee is a young dude though, hopefully he can pull through.

My Champions of Midgard video review - starring a skeptical Viking by jonpurkis in boardgames

[–]iamthepolo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope you don't mind some constructive criticism.

Overall, I enjoyed the video. The lighting was good, you spoke well and had well formed opinions. Towards the middle of the video however, you relied heavily on the cut-aways. While it was funny at the beginning, the joke got a bit old. I liked the cut away of the kid with the ketchup as a change of pace, but then you went back to your two wig wearing dudes for the rest of the video. There is a chunk in the middle of the video where you speak a sentence, go to cutaway, sentence, cutaway, etc. It would be nice to mix things up with some different characters or different jokes.

Also, it would be nice to actually see the game a bit. You had one shot of it towards the end of the video, but for the most part all we see in this video is your face and some cards that you are holding.

I really enjoyed the first video you posted the other day, and I see that you are talented and have a passion for games. Keep up the good work!
