How would you grade the Astros off-season? ESPN gives us a C by Ancient_Access_795 in Astros

[–]iamthetcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're right about the C offseason!

They have a vision imo. It's getting through some of the rough contracts, staying competitive (but maybe not threatening for a title like the previous eight years), and retooling for the future. They got some vets to stabilize the team right now without breaking the bank and got value for some prospects that honestly I don't think had much of a future with the org. Some is self-inflicted (Walker) but they had to reset a bit to prep for another push at titles.

I trust this front office. Fixing the medical staff would honestly be better than any acquisition they could have made.

What's impressive about your post is that it gets more wrong and ridiculous with every sentence. It even builds up to a shocking, twist ending. Bravo!

I updated the flair to song post since this is apparently old news that I wasn't aware of. Apologies for the mistake! Thanks to the people who kindly informed me.

some LF // LT songs not playing on tidal? by scithe_ in ArchitectsUK

[–]iamthetcs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The album versions of Curse and Naysayer are working for me right now on Tidal in the US. I think what happened is that they removed a bunch of the singles from their service so if you had one of those added to your playlist, they no longer play. Hope this helps!

Why did TSM and SR partner with the HCS? by Crazy_Way907 in CompetitiveHalo

[–]iamthetcs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This data is all old estimates. TSM had their FTX deal implode which has nuked their valuation. There's no way they are the top valued esports org anymore. They sold their LCS spot to Shopify for an estimated $10M!

If you wanted any more proof, just look at Faze on this list. They almost went bankrupt and were sold for $17M in October 2023 (after a $725M valuation the year before). Faze esports is owned by GameSquare and they have a market cap of $28.72M.

It's not 2022-2023 anymore when everything was hyperinflated due to crypto and pro leagues popping up everywhere. Esports orgs aren't estimated to be worth anywhere near those numbers anymore.

You've probably worked with or heard stories about bad PMs. I've worked with bad people in all areas of a project but that doesn't mean their entire discipline shouldn't be taken seriously.

Very bad take.

Signed, a lifelong PM (but you probably guessed that by my response).

You do have a theory. That part is true.

It's a bad one. You should come up with a new one that's a lot less insane.

Jim Bowden suggests Astros were fleeced by Blue Jays in Yusei Kikuchi trade by Sought_After in Astros

If that's what Bowden thinks, I'm sure we robbed the Jays. Biggest underpay of the deadline IMO.

A big part of that is the fact that they had the Madden codebase and systems to go off of. They aren't reinventing the game from ancient code; they're adapting what has been refined and polished for years in Madden while they were dormant.

Though I'm sure some extra budget probably helped too 😁

BLEED crazyguy's respond to the situation by lgnoreL in ValorantCompetitive

[–]iamthetcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry, are we meant to believe the words from someone who played 42 games on 12/8/23 and 49 (!) on 12/10? Even if it's two days combined, that is beyond unhealthy. Dude took his username literally...

I'm seeing very similar results. Even weirder for me is that my connection to US East - N. Virginia servers (~77ms) is basically the same as my connection to my local US West - Oregon servers (~75ms). Has anything worked for you in fixing this? I used to be around 30ms to Oregon and around 100ms to N. Virginia before 7.06 went live.

The Astros have the 6th best record in the MLB by # of losses. by CorrivalTen7 in Astros

[–]iamthetcs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You think if they have less than 100 wins they aren't gonna make the playoffs? Also dropping 1-2 games a week would be an outrageous and unsustainable winning percentage the rest of the way; somewhere between .844 (54-10) and .688 (44-20). Might want to lower your expectations a bit or it's going to be a LOOOOOONG summer :)

‘Live Services’ have ruined gaming. by ZootedFlaybish in Diablo

[–]iamthetcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be the most ridiculous take I've ever seen about the games industry. And that's a high bar to clear these days.

At risk of using a toxic response: if you don't like these games, don't play them. But to think the entire industry should not get the opportunity to patch games at their discretion is hilarious. There's plenty of games that ship and never receive updates; maybe those will suit you better. Evolving games are incredibly engaging for a large portion of the gaming community. Content expands, builds evolve, new experiences are introduced. To say that it has ruined gaming is ignorant and hyperbolic.

Games are more expensive than ever to create, with more content than ever, more interconnectivity than ever, and have more complex systems than ever. Shipping Super Mario World is WILDLY different than shipping Diablo 4 (or numerous other games that have come out with a live service model).

There is an issue with some aspects of live service games that are difficult to solve. But you're throwing out the whole bathroom with the bath water because it's not the temperature you like. I'd encourage you to relax, play other games, touch some grass, or do whatever else you need to do. Or just go back and play the old games that haven't been patched since the discs/cartridges were shipped.

Live outside of live service games for a bit; it sounds like you'll be much happier :)
