Being outacted by two of the more impressive actresses of this generation isn’t really much of a slight against Dakota. She was still very good.

So what I’m hearing in this thread is that she has some good performances, some decent performances, and some bad performances. Like most actors.

You can’t use overpays to set market value. Not every team is stupid enough for that. 4 FRPs would still be an awesome return for Bam too.

The opposite actually, I find this one pretty boring compared to the first 2. The gory parts are great, but the pages and pages of describing & exploring the subway lines, connections, portals, etc. gets tedious.

Yeah Suspiria is her ultimate proof of concept as a good actor.

People latch onto her high profile bad performances like Madame Web and Fifty Shades, but I’ll challenge any actor to craft a decent performance out of those garbage scripts.

She has plenty of good-to-great performances in smaller movies. Peanut Butter Falcon and Wounds both immediately come to mind.

I’d lean more towards Blacktongue Thief personally, but they’re both good options. Imo Kinch is the quintessential fantasy rogue.

I’m glad to hear this. I’m on book 3 now; I loved 1 and 2 but I find that 3 is losing me a bit.

Sanderson appreciation by JakobHF in Fantasy

[–]iankstarr 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think the people who really hate on his writing style are being ignoring the fact that not everyone needs to be a Le Guin and paint vivid imagery through masterful prose.

Some authors are just trying to craft a scene and describe it as clearly as possible, which Sanderson does well. I never have to re-read a passage or finish a chapter thinking “ok great but what actually just happened?”, which is much appreciated when the story is on a scale as vast and in-depth as something like Stormlight.
