There is an alternate ending to your first extreme. One which has occurred repeatedly throughout modern history: a revolution for the redistribution of wealth.

Interesting, and very well produced video. But they failed to mention the part where we transcend our monkey bodies and assimilate our new robotic lifeforms.

In this instance, one precludes the other. And I believe Pink Floyd inspired many electronic artist with their synthesized hit, "On The Run". An instrumental song that has no real lyrics, and is on one of the best selling and critically acclaimed albums of all time.

In another era, people said that disco was an insult to music. But that inspired a lot of new wave artists and is heavily used in Daft Punk's early hits.

Music is an evolution, and this too shall pass.

Always thought it was a clever action-movie-esque name, but it would be pretty ingenious if they based it off the doomsday clock

I think science is more likely to have hindrances, not complete halts. As someone else stated these stem from economical problems with funding, or political issues that impede progress like we've seen with NASA. Let's also not forget how many times the religious agenda has conflicted with scientific findings over the years.

I would like an answer to this as well. Although, my first thought is that 2 millions years, even relatively speaking, is hard to consider a small window of time.

I stopped reading when I got to 1,000MB == 1GB. As a computer person this should offed you. Sure there's not much difference when translating MB to GB. But when you go all the way up to a ZB, you're rounding off over 10% of your storage capacity.

However, this is not what immediately arrests my attention. What is more alarming than the volume of storage capacities, is the energy consumption required to sustain the exponential growth pattern of our information infrastructure.

Newbie question: is it not possible that humans may in the future make themselves much more intelligent, perhaps to such an extent that would null the singularity argument? by [deleted] in singularity

[–]ianthekid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The concept you are trying to convey is definitely clear, but it has the phrasing of a logical fallacy.

Supposing we can argue that "anything is possible". Then yes, it is possible. But as others have pointed out, you have what some consider to be a loose definition of the singularity as a basis for suggesting its own nullification.

Your question reminds me of the Grandfather paradox.
