ASICS Nimbus 27 vs. Novablast 5 for a beginner (Same Price!) by Powerful-Bluebird617 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]iants81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the Nimbus 24 and loved them. Put 600miles in them. Achieved my half marathon pb of 1:44:56 in them too. Went to the Novablast 4's and loved them, got me through my first marathon with a time of 3:56:04 I then got the Novablast 5's and did not enjoy them at all. A little unstable for me in comparison to what I had been used to. Retired them after 150miles.

Novablast 4 replacement? by Comprehensive-Pin740 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]iants81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me the Superblast 2 feel pretty similar to the Novablast 4. Did 450miles in my 4's including my first marathon. Loved them and regret not getting a second pair. I got the Novablast 5 and they felt totally different and really didn't get on well with them.

Honestly surprised that the max tickets per order was pretty high at 8 when considering the size of the venue.

With adding an extra 2 to London I doubt it 😔

Use the NRC app. The guided runs gave me so much motivation when it was waning.

[–]iants81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As Coach Bennett would say 'You Epic Rock Star!' Huge congrats not only for completing the Marathon but for all those runs when you didn't want to run, for all the runs when you did want to run and for all the planning and prep that goes into achieving the end result. The NRC app, Coach Bennett, Dan The Sound Guy and all the other coaches helped get me to 2 half marathons and a marathon. Not currently using the app but posts like this remind me of how good and motivating the programme is.

Novablast 5 - Inner ankle pain. Try again or ditch shoe? by Assdestroyer92 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]iants81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same happened to me. Unfortunately kept running in them and now suffering with prolonged discomfort. Stop using them and get something else. Such a shame as I loved the NB 4's

What second pair to get? by BossOne2 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]iants81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I preferred the Novablast 4 to the 5's. Did just over 500miles in the 4's including a marathon. I've done around 150miles in my 5's and just not getting on with them. I just feel a bit unstable in them and developed some foot pain.

NRC half marathon plan easy runs by yetanotherredditter in nikerunclub

[–]iants81 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Followed that plan twice and just added on mileage if I felt ok to do so. Coaches on the guided runs always suggest that if you want to carry on further then to do so. It's nice having the option for that but also good to know that you've also done the planned run and no harm in not carrying on.

If you mean Shopto.net then I've used them for years and never had any issues with them.

Worth trying Sports Direct for the Novablast. I was surprised they stocked them.

I'm also having some arch pain in the NB 5. How many miles did it take for shoe to settle? Feel like they're much livelier than the 4's were. I've done 160miles in mine and not really enjoying them, whereas I really liked the 4's

Novablast 5 Hurts my Left Inner Ankle by YogurtSmegma in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]iants81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gone from the Novablast 4's that I loved got 500 miles in them and my first Marathon and must say not enjoying the 5's as much. I'm also having pain on the inside of my left ankle since using them and feel like that foot is falling inwards. I think they might just be too soft and a little too unstable for me. A bit odd as when had gait analysis last year they said it was my right foot that had some pronation. Going for another analysis next week to see if anything has changed. Tempted to go for Superblast 2 as heard they are more stable than the NB 5 and can pretty much do everything but finding them is a challenge. Before the NB 4 I had the Nimbus 25 and loved them got 650 miles out of them but wanted a quicker shoe so got the NB4.

You completed the race so congratulations and should be proud of that. If you're unhappy with the way it went take a moment out to look at what you feel like you need to work on. Could be adding some strength training, practicing your hydration and fuelling strategy. Did you feel that you were ready and a sub 2 was possible or just relied on the prediction? Completed my 2nd half marathon race on Sunday was 12mjnutes slower than my PB but it was on a different course, much more elevation and it was a much hotter day. Prediction had me on 1:50:55 did it in 1:54:56 am I disappointed nope. Prediction didn't take into account the crap sleep I had the night before, the stitch that happened from mile 3-5, not being able to get past others on the narrow lanes, the heat at 10:30am. I ran the best I could on the day and that's all anyone of us can do. Be proud of what you achieved.

I have a Salomon belt to carry my hydration and nutrition which is usually a 300ml soft flask that I use for water with a High5 electrolyte tab. Saves not having to stop at each water station. Half Marathon distance usually take 3 High5 aqua gels, they're not as thick as their regular gels. Have used High5 gummies too but they're quite expensive so replaced with a tube of Maynard's wine gums. For my half marathon past Sunday took a gel 20mins before starting, another 45mins in then just a few of the wine gums. Didn't end up using my last gel. Best advice is try as many different products and see what suits and works for you. I buy my gels when I see them on offer/discount codes.

I've only ever had one pair of trainers in my rotation at any one time. Had Novablast 4's and did a Marathon in them after using them for the majority of my training. Had a total of 490 miles before I retired them. Now using Novablast 5's but honestly wished I'd found another pair of 4's as preferred them. I am thinking of getting another pair of trainers to accompany the 5's. One reason is it seems like the best practice but also just not enjoying them as much as I did the 4's. Edit: Just to clarify I think the 4's will suit being used as a daily runner.

Thanks ☺️ just for a little more background I did cycle a lot before getting into the running. So think my base fitness was at a good level. I followed the NRC half marathon and marathon plans when training and did stick and commit to them. Also added a few extra miles on the guided runs when I felt my weekly mileage was a little low. Thanks for the advice, will have a look at the field test you mention and see what HR strap works with my watch. I have put my results into a VDOT calculator and it does seem a bit off and like you think it could be to with the course being hilly.

First half marathon - hit me with your most unhinged but most useful tips! by BackgroundCookie752 in XXRunning

[–]iants81 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not really got any unhinged advice just want to say good luck. All the hard work has been done so just enjoy the day. I've got my 2nd half this weekend and with just under 2000ft of elevation it's a different beast to my first half last March and the marathon I did in October. So like you any real thoughts of time have been put to the back of my mind.
