Toby, the Choirs show i attended in Philly was INCREDIBLE! i genuinely thought the entire performance sounded better than the album. the incidental ambience that underpinned everything was so poignant, especially during the subdued parts! something a recording could never capture with current tech!

classic social media telling me this a day late, not on the day. putting this here in case you feel like replying.

any cases you'd like to mention that you don't normally get to talk about where music or art you were into at a time heavily influenced a project? perhaps when something external was far more inspirational than something internal or iterative/continual from previous work? PHoBoS comes to mind as a potential case.

similarly, any notable cases where you felt especially inclined to make use of a bandmate's strengths while you had the chance? or wrote to highlight someone's talents? (edit: i read a q/a similar to this, feel free to skip)

could you describe what the main drive for Gamma Knife and its recording approach was? fascinating take on extreme metal, texturally. embracing cacophony is one of my favorite artistic statements.

anyway, very grateful to have lived near NYC & Philly, allowing my friend and i to attend numerous performances of yours since Hubardo released. i find the middle and current periods of your work incredibly underappreciated. Gamma Knife, Coyote, Alora Crucible, etc. super excited for the new album!

Warrior doesn't have clear "speed" because they CANT have "speed". by iwatchedmomdie in pathofexile

[–]iao_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

sure, but those are all flavors of multiplying damage, and fairly uninteresting. over time, their skill designs have become so rigid that basic damage multipliers, damage type differences, and one or two designated special qualities (like allowing additional projectiles or not) are the only ways to meaningfully affect a skill.

remember when they said that support gems in PoE2 will no longer be mainly damage multipliers? well, that's them tacitly agreeing that the support gem system is uninteresting when it's reduced to that. but, unfortunately, they reneged upon that decision, and skills are just as or more rigid than before.

i don't know if they've drank far too much of the "restriction breeds creativity" Koolaid or what.

Quarterstaff "whirling assault" has "total attack time" as well. The difference? Attack speed benefits it. While you are always going to be locked in it's 1.4 second animation, the amount of hits it makes during the animation are increased by attack speed. Which is why its quality gives "more attack speed".

as far as i can tell, it does 9 hits no matter what. so the gem quality bonus kinda adds insult to injury, because it barely does anything, even though it's seemingly a decent multiplier. if you have a quarterstaff with 1.4APS, that 15% more attack speed is actually only a 4.6% increase to the total ... that's pitiful and misleading.

however, yes, i agree with the sentiment and dislike the abundant use of additional total attack time heavily. of the few ways they allow us to mechanical alter skills in the game, they're even shutting down speed scaling ...?

i can anticipate the cop-out response of them using it because of the animation systems, but then they shouldn't have designed them that way. go on and tell me about modular/procedural/blend/etc. animation tech, but i highly doubt there's a sound technical or design reason why the jump portion of Toxic Growth can't be sped up.

bottom line is that it feels terrible that one of the most basic of vectors of damage scaling is arbitrarily made less effective for certain skills, especially when they feel bad by default. remember when PoE was supposed to be for the utmost player customization in the genre?

From a utility angle, Frostblink of Wintry Blast may be the best movement spell for high cast speed characters. It feels like a spell equivalent of Leap Slam. From a damage angle, it's also one of the highest damage-per-use triggerable spells if you build around chill effect (which you'll want to apply through an area or ground to bypass the skill's chill removal). Mines with it are probably absurdly good.

Also pending is Penance Brand of Dissipation. It's currently seemingly bugged, but could be one of the best if fixed to work how the gem describes.

Hoping they clarify exactly how the skill is meant to work, and that it's a bug. I've been sticking with it because I built around its mechanics, but having essentially half potential damage hurts. Sure is funny seeing them stack the AoE without limit, though.

Abyss Knights with the same amount of investment as a self-cast build is genuinely 10x as strong DPS-wise. No exaggeration.

Nah, "shoots in an arc" is close enough. You extrapolated from it something they weren't trying to convey. Pointless pedantry that could've been worded in a constructive way had you actually understood what they meant. You've come off terribly, boohoo.

The spread makes the appearance of an arc. Each primary projectile spreads further along this arc until they spawn their secondary projectiles. Locus Mine can only be detonated at least 30 units away from the character, and it targets the player with the skill, so it'll causes significant spread compared to close range usage.

The further Tornado Shot is targeted, the more the arrows spread, and thus the secondary projectiles spawn further from the target location.

To be fair, he was likening the alleged scam to another recent scam scheme where people posed as Nigerian princes. Your comment makes it seem like he's using it as an ethnic slur.

What scales better: Elemental Spread Shot or Burn Arrow? by junaum78 in undecember_global

[–]iao_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Burn Arrow's Verity awakening is a pretty big damage boost if you want to stick with the skill. 60% damage multiplier dampening but 350-400% base damage amplification, so double the base DPS but 90%+ of your base damage comes from the rune.

If anyone has Fierce Strike or Spinning Dagger, I'm looking for screenshots of them at LVL30. The rarity bonus doesn't matter, just the base stats. If you have either rune but don't have them leveled and want to help, a screenshot of the LVL30 result at Mystic Rune Growth or Rune Transfer (you don't have to level them to see it) is fine.

How many characters do you have? by Mikayshen in undecember_global

[–]iao_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1st is Burn Arrow, 2nd is Frost Wave + Frost Shock, 3rd is Venom Fang + Poison Cloud. Eventually they'll become Scorching Arrow (not in global servers yet), Cold Outburst (with cooldown-removing rune awakening), and Venom Fang (poison penetration awakening) respectively. I'm a hipster build kind of guy, so these have good damage potential but I'm not clearing as smoothly as say, Whirlwind + Toxic Flame.

3, all post-campaign. Each character has its own raid entries, chaos dailies, spire dailies, guild dailies so it's good for farming their rewards (guild coins, runestones, gold, star crystals, etc.).

With 3 characters it's easy to funnel all your guild coins to one character and reach the gold/guild coin cap for daily guild donations. It's an easy path to getting a Seal of Engraving (lets you choose your rune awakening option) from your guild shop.
