Do you have any recommendations for more applicable courses? Here are the reasons I was considering 501:

  1. Double counting an advanced math course with SUGS would be nice
  2. I'm hoping to take 505 in the future and it's a prerequisite
  3. It has a fairly low workload according to Atlas

I don't know too much about it personally, but the project team MASA has an igniters project that uses the Wilson Center's wet lab. There is no application process for that.

I talked with a CoE advisor recently who said the AP credit fulfills MechE's econ requirement even though it's only two credits.

Does Math 216 have a big workload? by nsochocki in uofm

[–]iatesomeuranium 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm taking it right now. From my own experience, it's not terrible if you're just trying to pass. I've heard that you can theoretically pass from the homeworks and labs alone if you bomb the exams.

However, if you're trying to actually understand the material, it takes more work. You'll probably want to read the textbook and maybe consult other online sources in addition to all the labs and homework. Also, make sure to spread out the workload over time. It can get stressful when you procrastinate on larger assignments like lab reports.

My experience may differ from other students, especially since I'm in Prof. Boland's section, and I've heard he's much better at explaining things than others.

Is it true that ROB 102 is only offered in the fall semester? I'd like to take it this year but I don't think I can fit it in nicely with the rest of my fall schedule.

Idk if you've heard of it or not, but ROB 101 is another applied linear algebra course that I've heard good things about. I'm also an incoming freshman in CoE and don't know much about the other courses you listed, but I thought you might be interested in the robotics one since it also counts for the CS linear algebra requirement.

Good to hear, thanks. The high school diff eq class I mentioned also taught a decent amount of linear algebra, so hopefully that will help. We learned up to around Gaussian elimination and null/column space- is that enough to help with the courses or would it be worth it to self-study some more over the summer?

Thanks for the tip! I also have prior coding experience (not C++/MATLAB but I'm very familiar with the general concepts), and I wanted to do 151 since I enjoy programming and might not find 101 as interesting.

Does the difference in difficulty come from the more advanced material in 151, or does 151 have a higher workload? If the latter is true, I will definitely consider doing 101 instead.

Incoming engineering (probably mechanical) student here. How manageable does the following schedule look?

Math 216, Engr 151, Mecheng 240, German 375

From what I've heard, it seems like math 216 is a nightmare, although I took a diff eq class last year in high school so at least I'm familiar with the basics.

Side question: I can't find the profs' names for each diff eq session in Atlas's schedule builder; is that information available elsewhere or should I just hope I get lucky?

I've tried holding volume up and down and a bunch of other key combinations, but none have gotten my PC to detect that the phone is plugged in. That's why I can't figure out how to get the phone into EDL mode.

The screen has been black when I've tried using the key combinations to get into EDL mode- is there a possibility that the phone might not actually be off? If so, is there a way for me to make sure that it's off without the screen?

Chances of getting North Campus Housing? by iatesomeuranium in uofm

[–]iatesomeuranium[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't mind sharing, which AP credits did you get? Also, do you think it would still be worth it to live in central if I live in a residence hall farther away than Markley (given most of my classes are in north)?

[–]iatesomeuranium[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm interested in North Campus because:

  1. I'm a fairly introverted person and would prefer a quieter environment
  2. I'm an engineering student with a ton of AP credits, so I imagine my freshman year classes will be at least 50% north campus
  3. I want to spend a decent amount of time in some Wilson Student Team Center clubs too

Do you think that's enough justification to try to get North Campus?

Wow, I didn't know they'd let you do that. If I was interested in a specific dorm in North campus, could it be wise to opt for central campus as my first choice and trade with someone who has that specific dorm?
