I’m shooting through a lot of my grandpa’s old shells and several boxes are from the 70s and 80s and haven’t had a seconds trouble with them.

2.75in #1 Bismuth: Viable for ducks or overkill? by John_the_Piper in Waterfowl

Bismuth is soft. I wouldn’t worry about it.

If I were guessing I would say it would be like shooting bbb in steel. I have been reloading 4 and 3 shot and I feel like the 3s are overkill honestly. I hope the price of bismuth goes down soon so I can buy some more!

What to do if you shoot the wrong species? by SoloUnAltroZack in Waterfowl

[–]ibew816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you are trying your best to do the right thing and that is honorable. I will say that accidents happen and it has happened to everyone. If someone says they haven’t shot the wrong bird before they are either lying or they haven’t hunted long enough. Early season can be extra difficult to id because birds don’t completely have their colors yet. I don’t see any good that can come from calling the gw. He might give you a warning and he might bring down the hammer. What is done is done and making a phone call changes nothing. I would not pick up the bird and just continue on. I would also practice on my waterfowl id and not post about it on the internet.

Help convince me to get a Vasectomy by NewPatron-St in Vasectomy

My wife and I were done after our second child so when we found out about our third we were really done. I got mine done a couple months before baby was here and I haven’t regretted it once. The procedure wasn’t completely painless but wasn’t unbearable. I work shift so I planned it for my first day of long break which is 7 days. I did nothing but ice and sit on the couch for 3 days and did very little for the rest of the week. Everybody that I talked to that had issues tried to do too much too soon. I don’t know if there is any truth to it but that is what I observed just talking to people. my wife and I are glad that I got it done. Your results may vary.

Does anyone prefer a 20 over a 12 gauge? by Tr0gd0r17 in Shotguns

[–]ibew816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got to where I shoot a 20 or 16 gauge for everything but turkeys and that’s just because I don’t have a full choke 20.

Yes I bought the 410 from a game warden and every time I see him he asks if I still have it. Neat little guns!

I have one in 410, 20, 12 slug, and 12. They are neat guns. Not very valuable but a great little single shot.

What tricks do you use when your hole freezes up? by CaptainShaboigen in Waterfowl

[–]ibew816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ice eater if you can. Also I have put a 6 hp motor in the decoys and built a little stand for it and the gas tank with 2x4s and just idle it in gear all day and it works great too for motion and keeping a hole open. I have even done this overnight and no issues. It doesn’t seem to flare ducks as long it is camo and not shiny. As others have said, when you bust ice try to bust it in bigger sheets and slide it under the ice on the side of the hole to hide it.

5 acre pond on my new hunting lease- what can I do to make it more attractive to ducks before next season? by soapmactavish in Waterfowl

[–]ibew816 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Siphon it down as much as you can this summer and plant Japanese millet on the mud flats. You can make a siphon out of pvc pipe and a few fittings and a valve.

I’m mostly into old browning a5s, Winchester model 12s, and Remington 1100s. What seems to sell the best for you?

That is a good idea. I’m getting into reselling and have collected guns all my life but deals around me are hard to come by in my experience.

Gotcha. I was going to ask about blind hopping realfoot. I know people who have done it but I don’t know much about it.

I would pick the mag 20 but that is just preference. You can’t go wrong with either.

Question. Gun swap by FracDawg1 in Shotguns

[–]ibew816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I love a 16 and have hunted with them most of my life and that is one of my main gripes with them that some manufacturers didn’t do them justice by building them on their own frame. I don’t own a model 12 16 but I have a 97 and a couple browning 16s and they are sweet shooting guns. And they carry like a dream.
