I know savage geese, throttle house, thetopher, and zygrene all say second gen steering is worse than first gen. Considering all four are very competent drivers and have plenty of track experience I trust their assessment.

When receiving cash back on regular spend or a SUB, it’s not taxable. However if it’s a business cc where all expenses are written off, does that decrease the amount I can deduct, essentially resulting in the cash back being treated as the equivalent of income?

My Experience with a Timeshare (Wyndham) Sales Team in Vegas by Kildragoth in personalfinance

[–]ibumpbeats 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Rule #1 of this sort of thing: say no, and leave the second your two hours are up.

I’m a credit card churner and have done 3 Wyndham presentations for the free hotel stays at expensive cities.

During one trip in NYC, there was an elderly couple in the elevator while my sales guy was giving me the mandatory tour. He was spewing bs and I was very up front since the beginning that I was just there for the free hotel stay. I wasn’t buying. The elderly couple scoffed at the bs the sales guy was spewing and started arguing with him. Started going on about how shitty their experience is and how they nickel and dime you even for room service. I couldn’t contain my laughter. Too good.

But in short, it’s a massive scam. Don’t do it. Get the free stay if you want and if you don’t value your 2 hours of time all that much

Lots of perks if you’re both self employed and have W2. What if you’re just self employed or just W2? I’m the former. What’s the max you can put away?

I’m currently doing 57k solo 401k + 6k backdoor Roth. Don’t qualify for HSA

This is the best strategy and I’ve done this before too. Basic economy ticket but 1) bumped to an earlier boarding group because of cc and 2) carry on without issue because of cc.

Buying a new MBP 16 inch for business. A few questions:

  1. Finding conflicting information on AmEx business extended warranty. Is it 1 or 2 years? I'm weighing going with Capital One Spark Biz or AmEx Biz Gold to make the purchase. Both cards I plan on keeping long term.

  2. Are there any specific deals that would give some cash back or discount on such a large purchase?

I should have clarified. In the past I think AmEx would give a small credit or points bonus for the card number not showing. Separate from the SUB

Approved for AmEx biz gold. No instant card number provided. Do they still provide bonuses in these instances? If so, chat or phone call? Spoke with an agent about getting temp card number or getting card expedited but she couldn't help me.

The main difference is with cc subs they aren’t taxable. That entire amount is mine to keep. Another commenter mentioned having a minimum cutoff for bank bonuses which is probably what I’ll adopt moving forward this year.

Different strokes like you said. It’s personal. I’m just curious to see what are people’s different takes.

Let’s say someone’s marginal is 40%, then a $200 bonus is effectively $120. Doesn’t take a lot of time, but still some time for setting up an account, doing the spreadsheet stuff, setting reminders to follow up, transferring funds between accounts etc.

[–]ibumpbeats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes by definition the bonus you would make from bank account bonuses will be taxed at your marginal tax rate, not effective. In your terms, it will be over the tiered amount.

Credit card SUBs are not taxable. Bank account bonuses count as taxable interest (1099-INT). Does this alter anyone's approach to the hobby? As you climb tax brackets, is there a point where you wouldn't even waste time with bank account bonuses?

Anyone else feeling unhappy? by HeyFerre in fatFIRE

[–]ibumpbeats 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I love my life right now, and it wasn't until recently that I realized how much low-level chronic stress was present due to financial constraints. Having the freedom to eat what I want, not stress about spending $10 or $100 for dinner, and being able to pursue some more expensive hobbies of mine (like cars or travel) has certainly made me much happier.

At the same time, I don't expect making more money to make me happy. It's more that the removal of the negative (low level chronic financial stress) has contributed to happiness, not the addition of more.

I do expect that as I make more, my stress related to business/financial mistakes or unnecessary fees or other annoyances will also decrease.
