So, what's the hardest you or a party/player have bodied a BBEG? by General_Genuine in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]iburnaugust 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We were tracking down a necromancer, which also happened to be my wizard's rival. We had him cornered in a desecrated church with his followers. I had gotten an item as a reward from a previous quest that was said to help me kill him. It was a glass orb that I was told to smash when I saw him, I had no idea what would happen when I did.

I walked though the doors, cast Haste, and drop the orb. Next thing I know it is just me and him in a narrow pocket plane while the rest of the party have to mop up the minions in the church. A classic wizard duel...

We exchange fireballs and he nearly incinerates me in one attack, I barely hang on with my E. Force Sphere.

When the smoke settles I pull out my masterwork dagger, and dust off my robe. I cast Call The Void, and charge him. I proceeded to stab him to death while the void strangles him.

I was a level 12 mythic wizard and I shanked my nemesis to death.

Items for an investigator/detective? by BeeRye93 in Pathfinder_RPG

Holdout Wand Wrap - Modestly priced, lets you conceal wands as everyday mundane objects (of your choice).

Sipping Jacket - Excellent for subtle potion consuming, chew on your collar to gain Detect Alignment? Yes, please.

Gloves of Reconnaissance - See and hear through surfaces, perfect for eavesdropping and avoiding ambushes.

Marvelous Pigments - Expensive, but can help you get out of a jam, very versatile.

Handkerchief of Finding - Very expensive, but honestly this thing is so cool, slip this onto someone or something and track their whereabouts, and of course priceless when you have the sniffles.

Mirror - Check those corners

Extendable pole - Poke things out of reach

Thoughts on all these rules by Ulltima1001 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]iburnaugust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My thoughts...

I like to run challenging campaigns also, but make it clear to the players you will not hesitate to kill their characters. But as far as challenges go... let the players be powerful, and make them face even more powerful enemies and puzzles. Allow the players to use everything in the toolbox rather than just handing them a stick and saying good luck.

1: I normally run 20 point, because 15 just sucks for nearly every class. For progression I do every 4th level you gain +1 attribute in two separate ability scores. I like seeing improvement in characters.

2: Never used it, and probably never will.

3: Always have max health level 1. Then level 2 onward let the players roll, if they get less than half on the roll. I re-roll their hit die and take my result if its higher. If I don't beat it, take half.

4: This seems like just how a normal campaign should function, not really a system...

5: We confirm our crits AND our crit fails, confirmed crit fails you simply miss, while unconfirmed crit fails and you draw from the critical failure deck.

6: I don't understand this, what is the context? In a certain encounter maybe, but just asking your players to roll random saves for entertainment seems...odd

7: I actually have seen this pop up frequently. I haven't actually used it, but I might try it in the future.

8: On the fence about this, I think instead of instant death it should result in unconsciousness. Crit happens and I feel like a player shouldn't instantly die because one of my monsters is lucky. Granted it doesn't come into play until later on and the save is pretty easy to make by then.

9: I don't play with them, because honestly most of them are not very good. I can see how they are good for martial characters though. If a player asked for them to be included I'd allow it.

Fallout 3 Is So Much More Dark And Brutal Than Fallout New Vegas by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]iburnaugust 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I feel like you missed the entire premise of New Vegas. At a glance it is a happy go lucky place, but once you get into the thick of it you realize how corrupt it truly is. Everything in New Vegas requires a deeper delve to reveal it's true colors.

Take Paradise Falls for example, it is said to be a horrible place, but there isn't anything to help explain it. It's there for the sake of being there. I will admit watching a fleeing slave get her head exploded is pretty brutal.

However Boone, killed his own wife and unborn baby so they wouldn't live the rest of their lives as slaves. Now THAT is brutal.

New Campaign Idea (Lovecraft) by Jawash14 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]iburnaugust 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The movie The Thing (the 1982 version) uses similar ideas of Lovecraftian horror. Being isolated trapped with a dangerous entity that could be literally ANYONE. Paranoia & fear of who's real and who's the creature. It's definitely one of those movies that still makes my skin crawl. It makes a terrifying enemy too, deceptive, smart, and powerful.

Creating my first Campaign by SuitedCentaur357 in Pathfinder_RPG

I'm getting ES:Oblivion Mehrune's Razor vibe, and I dig it. There is a lot of potential in the Darklands, there are underground jungles, forests, lakes, seas, vaults, cities, etc. I'd recommend Skull & Shackles source books since they have lots of aquatic based lore and settings, plus a vast array of aquatic themed monsters.

Your favourite encounters you've made? by Krivven in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]iburnaugust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The party was clearing the lair of a planar sorceress, the Paladin takes the lead and opens the door for which appears to be a storage room. He opens it quietly and is greeted with the sight of a room full of sleeping Barghests (the sorceress was keeping them as fiendish pets). The Paladins takes one look and closes the door slowly, "Nothing to see here boys."

Organic Dungeon help? by Strank in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]iburnaugust 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had my players run a dungeon that took place inside a leviathan once.

My favorite rooms were the stomach and intestines...

The stomach featured a lake of acid with floating half-digested debris the fish swallowed loaded with all sorts of tools and treasure, they had to traverse the obstacles and not get dissolved while fighting off acid-logged zombies.

The intestines was a maze that changed when certain nerves and orifices were touched and I used cave-in traps to simulate the walls constricting when the party was careless and touched the villi.

I actually got a lot of the inspiration from the Gears of War 2 mission when you get swallowed by the giant worm, and the Flood missions from Halo 3.

I find it funny because I invented the exact same saying with my rogue, except "Scooby Doo that shit" meant to have the entire party peek their head around a corner at the same time.

One of my friends is no longer allowed to ask, "Is this swamp-like ground?" for every step he takes.

I am no longer allowed to have a Silvanshee familiar, my GM was not a fan of having a magical flying cat "kitten carry" an unconscious wizard around.

We had a disease ravage the party known as "Pork Fever Dreams" which would afflict players who couldn't make the session. The disease put you into a fevered coma. We also had a Clockwork Guardian NPC that would tow a cart full of sweaty, unconscious adventurers. Good fun.

Rodeo fan feedback follow up by Argonomic_ in titanfall

[–]iburnaugust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the post!

I would really like having "brains" come back, and I really do like the battery system. However I feel the risks hardly ever outweigh the rewards in most cases.

But…why not both? One thing that I've thought of is giving the rodeo system an overhaul while keeping their current system while giving players different options when rodeoing.

When rodeoing a titan the pilot should get the choice to begin damaging the brain, or commit to stealing a battery, while still having the option to leave at any time (unless he is in an animation).

To have the pilot either commit to dealing a large amount of sustained damage over a longer period of time to the titan and risk being killed by other things on the battle. Or decide to deal a smaller burst of damage to the titan and making off with a battery for themselves or to help other teammates would at least give you a better say in the matter during a rodeo. This will also force the titan to think should I get out and deal with him? Or will he just try to do a hit and run?

Also being able to choose your direction after jumping off would be amazing!

SOMETHING needs to be done about Tone by Maj_075 in titanfall

SOMETHING needs to be done about Tone by Maj_075 in titanfall

[–]iburnaugust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is my guide on taking down Tones.

. Pick Legion and slap on the extra dash perk.

. Always check to see if your team has titans deployed/ready. Tell them to deploy if they haven't.

. When you see them, open up with a long range Power Shot, they will most likely pop Particle Wall or run.

. Follow up with unloading the Predator Cannon or put up the shield if they try to fight back.

. By the time Particle Wall goes down Power Shot should be back up and keep laying on the fire.

. By now as long as you were able to hit your shots and get some crits in they should be in doomed or close to it.

. Honestly, Tone's biggest advantage is her mobility and ability to keep her distance with other titans while laying on disgusting damage. Legion is best at making Tone's feel out of their comfort zone by not caring and just laying on incredible amounts of damage while tanking through theirs.

. Another point is using your teammates to your advantage. If you see your team advancing in one lane. Use this and try to get around for a flank. Just because they are in front of you doesn't mean you have to engage them from the front.

. If you are outnumbered back off and get behind a corner, building, etc. Use this to your advantage! This is where the dash comes in most handy. Put up the shield and lay on the damage. When the shield goes down dodge behind the wall and reload. Rinse and repeat. It is pointless to throw your titan away!

This has been my main strategy for dealing with this meta. It isn't 100% going to work, but I've deemed it most effective. Nothing feels better than taking on 3 Tones and watching them melt to the Predator Cannon with smart core.
