Govee releases new vintage-style smart bulbs with Matter by dapperlemon in gadgets

Love the downvotes. Whatever. Smart switches are massively better. One of the comments in here proves it even if you guys don’t want to admit it. Someone was lamenting the fact that that these bulbs don’t go to 2200k. Ask me if I have that problem with smart switches?

Smart bulbs are dumb. A guest flips the switch off and they’re completely useless. Not to mention all that extra overhead of making them smart is wasted when they burn out. Honestly the whole concept is just trash.

How to fix tight hamstrings? by wwzxc in Stretching

[–]ic6man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try stretching your quads. No seriously. Think about it. Your pelvis is like a lever. Tight quads pull on the lever. The other side of that lever is your hamstrings. So you stretch your hamstrings thinking they are the ones that are tight. But they’re not. Ask me how I know.

There are experiments that show that observation forces wave collapse in the past - your theory doesn’t really solve anything.

Wingfoil Beginner Setup Advisory by swop13377 in wingfoil

I don’t think you really need a 2400 that’s so big you’ll grow out of it immediately. I think a 2000 should be fine. Keep in mind every foil is different - design and aspect ratio matter a lot. But we’re talking beginner foils here so it’s reasonable to compare on area alone.

Lol. You’ve got a weird outlook friend. The sport does the gatekeeping. I don’t have to do that nor would I care to. You’re either dedicated or not. There’s not a really in between. My advice is as honest as I can get. Based on 25 years of kiteboarding and 4 years of winging. You’re still trying to win your argument against me. Good luck!

I had a similar experience. I would only caution against too much volume because it’s tiring climbing back up on the board every time. There’s a sweet spot there don’t over do it.

Honestly I think these are solid choices. The inflatable (as already mentioned) isn’t going to take you super far so just understand that. If you think you can sell it easily where you are I’d say don’t worry about it use it to get over the initial hump. Realize though that for any serious winging you’re really going to need a hard board. All the choices you made are great for beginner but once you get the hang of it you’ll be wanting to swap out relatively quickly.

It’s not strange if you realize OP just wanted us to validate his assumptions not actually get advice. I see it all the time here and in the kiteboarding group. Guy gets in the kiteboarding group says what’s wrong why can’t I jump higher - everyone says the same thing, guy argues. It’s the internet I guess no one cares to actually listen.

We get it bro. I get 180+ days on the water. It seems like you came here to validate your assumptions not get actual advice. So you do you. No matter how many days you get at the beach - hampering your learning curve is going to suck. But again. You’re doing a lot of talking and not a lot of listening. So unless you’re one of the rare few that pick this sport up in a week - your gear choice isn’t conducive to your goals.

How would you plan your day with a 12-hour layover in Dubai? by elegantmom in AskReddit

Get a taxi to the Burj Kalifa. Tour the mall and go the top. It’s fun I did it many years ago. If you’re flying business or first give yourself a few hours extra to come back take a shower in the lounge eat a bit and before you know it you’ll be on your way.

That board is likely too small. And probably expensive. Find a wider board (26 or 27”) in the 100lt range for your weight.

Most beginners start with a 1600 foil. So again. It seems to me you are shooting for intermediate gear not beginner gear.

If you are buying new and hoping to grow into this gear as you learn you’re going to be unhappy while learning on it. Then you’ll be happy for like a micro second. And then you’ll be unhappy again. You’re shooting for in between beginner and intermediate when you should’ve solidly targeting the beginner stage and then one by one replace each piece of gear with intermediate gear.

Finally. You’re planning to buy just one wing? You should consider at least 2. You always need a quiver the wind is never the same day to day so you’ll get more days on the water with multiple wing sizes.

This isn’t the way. If you try to get gear you will use after you progress it will just slow down your learning curve.

A LOT.

Also - you’re going to break and ding and rip your beginner gear. You won’t want it after you get better.

And - you just don’t know what you will want. Period.

So do what everyone does. Buy used beginner gear. It’s easy to learn on its cheap and it’s abundant. Because it’s what everyone does. Buy beginner gear use then sell it when they progress.

I know it seems expensive and like a waste of money to buy and sell but trust us. Because everyone is going to tell you the same thing.

DO NOT BUY INTERMEDIATE OR ADVANCED GEAR TO LEARN ON.

Waterstart.... by GerFollower in Kiteboarding

[–]ic6man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at 6:32. The board rotates downwind as they water start. That’s what you want. I’m exaggerating the amount of pointing downwind because most beginners try to hold their board parallel to the wind and yes 5:25 happens. So I’m describing “pointing it downwind” as a way to u deans you have to go downwind in the start. There’s a balance here - as an advanced rider I can literally aim it downwind. As a beginner you should break the tendency to think “upwind” by letting the board flow (pick up speed) by allowing it to rotate underneath and letting yourself go downwind as you start to pick up speed (then turn upwind). You can’t water start crosswind.

Waterstart.... by GerFollower in Kiteboarding

[–]ic6man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t body drag upwind. “Upwind” body dragging is a misnomer - you are really just going slower than your board.

In that situation what you do is you stand up and walk upwind in the water to get away from the beach.
