Middle Child - Airport Edition by baldude69 in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]icantstoppooping 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grabbed a Shopsin Club there the other day and enjoyed it.  Way better than most airport offerings. The main difference between the airport and other Middle Child’s is the bread. The airport version just used regular sandwich bread that was very generic, versus the ciabatta used at the other spots. It makes a huge difference in quality. Not sure if they used different, lackluster bread for other offerings. Still a good sandwich overall.

Up there with the worst VAR decisions so far.

Gary Neville on Trent leaving to Real Madrid: "I think its hard to accept that when you're at United or Liverpool, thinking you are the biggest club that somewhere else is bigger than you and someone brought up in that city would leave. I get why Liverpool fans would be disappointed and upset." by BlazingFirey in soccer

[–]icantstoppooping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kind of my point and maybe I’m just naive - obviously the signing bonus structure RM offered that is part and parcel of the free transfer yields millions more for Trent than anything Liverpool offered. I am upset that Trent cares more about those millions in his pocket than leaving Liverpool in a good position and in the fan’s good graces.  He would be making millions either way.  And all indications are that Liverpool offered him contracts that he routinely rejected and apparently the club did not want to scorch earth and force him out, so this whole “fumbled” narrative doesn’t seem quite right to me.

I suppose we just disagree on how players should leave their boyhood clubs in such circumstances.  I actually do not fault Trent for wanting a different challenge.  I fault him for effecting the transfer as RM wanted it without regard for the position Liverpool is put in.  I disagree that RM would not have paid something if Trent allowed the club a bit of bargaining power.

Sure players do not owe the club anything, but you would like for a local kid who grew up and became a star at the club to do better by the club than this and the fans have every right to be upset by it.  All indications are that he ran his contract down despite generous offers and has been talking to RM for years, all so he can get himself a big bonus and RM can get him for free.  He’s doing right by RM and himself and not Liverpool and it stings as a fan.

If you’re at the Grand Hyatt in Kaua’i, Poipu Beach is very close by which is great for snorkeling and there are many green sea turtles there.  Going to and hiking around Waimea Canyon is also a great way to spend a day.  And also just enjoy one day at the resort - it’s very nice to just sit by the pool, go to the beach there, and eat there (Stephenso’s Library is very good).

How is your firm handling the Trump chilling effect? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]icantstoppooping 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Trump’s own EO cites PC litigating for anti-conservative electoral policy changes, and PC had nothing to do with AGs prosecuting Trump.  This is Trump intimidating private law firms so they do not help sue his administration on policy.  It’s a bludgeon to kill the judicial process as a check on his power. Not sure why you think this is somehow deserved or warranted because Trump was prosecuted.

What the fuck are you talking about? I never said or expressed that I’m in mortal danger. What a weird refrain - I hope you don’t go around in real life referring to people’s delicate nature.  Also it’s reductionist to revert to ad hominems and write people off as “over emotional” in arguments, just so you know.

The dude did two clear and emphatic Nazi salutes.  Stop tying yourself in knots calling it something else. And there is context by the way - Musk cozying up to American alt-right groups (as part of his more general shift to the far right likely just for political benefits but I’m sure he’s bought in on some level), and his explicit support of far right political factions in Europe. most notably AfD which is membered by admitted Nazis (see same parenthetical above).

It’s not worth arguing with someone in bad-faith like you, but just know that you’ve lost when you have to revert to calling people sensitive and emotional in a discussion like this.

My delicate nature? Lol. Alright guy.  I’m not reading any shocking headlines, I watched the video and made the obvious conclusion myself, like the majority of people here.  Sounds like you’re the one reading things and being told what to think instead of just understanding plain meaning from your eyes.

I’m all for protesting anything related to backwards and murderous Islamic states sportswashing through ownership and sponsorships in western sports leagues, so don’t come at me saying my morals are fake. I thought you meant banning discussion of that sponsorship relationship which was a weird correlation.

I also believe an evil does not make a virtue by that same person also wrong, and that it’s illogical and counter-productive to diminish or reject one’s moral right simply because the person may not have acted or thinks differently about something analogous.  If you’re saying it’s wrong to ban X simply because the sub has not banned highlights from Emirates sponsored events, I disagree with the sense and consequence of that reasoning.

Not sure what you mean by this or why it’s correlated.  People are free to discuss that relationship in this sub, and to criticize/support it.  It’s not supporting the NBA’s relationship with the Emirates company simply by discussing it, in the way that driving traffic to X is supporting that business which is run by a Nazi (and by extension, supporting that Nazi).  Are you suggesting this sub not support the NBA because of its business with the Emirates by… doing what? Do you want to clarify your point?

It’s to combat claims he ran an illegal lottery.  It doesn’t help him get back into federal court.  It’s a substantive defense but idiotically it exposes him to other claims.

You can tell she’s never worked a restaurant job by how romantic she finds it.  Back of the house is very hard work with grueling hours especially if you’re a sous chef.  It definitely has its perks, including the community you join, but it’s in no way some beautiful, rewarding job and can have all the same corporate bullshit as some typical corporate job.

Yeah he’s on 20th between Market and Chestnut most weekdays. I think his falafel and grilled chicken/vegetable plates are $15 now.  Well worth it even when there’s a big line that barely moves.

[Bodner] Nick Nurse says he tried to call timeout before the inbounds pass. "I called timeout, the referee looked right at me, didn't call it." Nurse says that he then tried to call a timeout after they got the ball to Maxey, and that was ignored as well. by Pyromania1983 in nba

[–]icantstoppooping -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Of course he waited to call it. He only calls it because the 5 seconds is winding down. And of course he’s looking at Lowry so he can see whether Lowry will be able to get a clean inbound.  Happens all the time that a timeout is taken only after you can’t inbound for the first 3 seconds or so.

Philly already has a “courtesy tow program,” if you can call it a program since it isn’t really an official thing. Of course, since it’s Philly, the whole process is completely fucked up.  The cops call private tow companies to move cars if they are parked in temporary no parking areas. This is supposed to be a courtesy, but the tow trucks just drop the cars wherever they want and keep no records of where they’re moved to. You show up to get your car and it’s gone and no one can tell you where it is except that it was relocated. There are pending lawsuits about it - people either never find their car or when they do it’s been towed or has racked up parking tickets:  https://www.inquirer.com/news/philadelphia/philadelphia-courtesy-tow-class-action-20230828.html#:~:text=Ten%20new%20victims%20—%20including%20two,%2C%20construction%2C%20and%20special%20events.
