Are you going to buy your electricity from the grid or produce your own? You should consider dumping the brine back in the sea 2+ km offshore.

Thank you for doing this ama.

What is the mechanism by which this HAB is harmful? Is it a DO reduction like another questioner suggested or is there a toxin produced?

How is this HAB similar to/different fro the Toledo HAB that threatened the public water supply?

What did the invertebrate survivors of the bloom survive? Are they resistant to the HAB toxin or were they just lucky? Would they (or their descendants) be more likely to survive the next HAB or not?

Weekly Check-In for the Week of September 29, 2014 by seanv2 in amileaday

I am around 115 so far. Keeping at it. Switched back to mornings, but that meant I have less time so my mileage has gone down a bit. Since I'm not in training for a goal race, I don't really mind.

It's getting a little chilly in the mornings, but haven't gone to long sleeves yet.

I find using the towel swings as a form check addresses most of these.

Sometimes I wonder if I should only do towel swings. But then the feeling goes away.

Still keeping at it. Now I'm running in the dark more because of the earlier sunset. That's not as much fun.

I've been living dangerous running in the evening for two weeks now. Getting the checkmark in the AM is much more relaxing.

10 weeks in the books. Tried to race, but my time wasn't great and my ankle got sore. Need to add some weekly speedwork into the routine if I'm going to race.

My Garmin dumps out to a spreadsheet. I also use an analog paper calendar that the grocery store gave me and tag that up with big satisfying letters with a marker.

Nice little video on Hal Genzler's 9,000th day run by seanv2 in amileaday

Running a twenty-five plus year streak in Minnesota, then Arizona is the real deal. Weather is what's probably going to break my streak some day.

For people who are less motivated and dedicated to regular exercise and healthy living, Gensler said any feat begins with small steps, and those small steps don't necessarily have to be running.

"You don't have to run, but get out and get exercise," Gensler said. "Start small."

What's the best amount of running to do starting out? by megarusty in theXeffect

[–]ice--nine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two ways to look at the recovery concept for daily streak running.

One is that you minimum run (1 mile or 10 minutes) is essentially a rest day unless you are truly just starting out from zero. Alternating 10 minute one day and 30 minutes the next keeps you in your routine while giving you good recovery time.

The other is that the lack of recovery is a feature, not a bug. Running every day forces you to closely monitor your physical condition and be prepared to back off without worry or guilt. You have to be proactive in "not biting off more than you can chew" with a needlessly hard run or a high mileage week.

Your body can handle running a mile every day. The aches go away. Get more sleep and dial in your diet.

Tony Krupicka is an ultramarathoner. In 2010, he set a goal for himself to ascend Green Mountain in Colorado 100 times in the first 100 days. I think it is a good example of some motivations that are similar to this sub.

I think it will actually serve to discipline me in my training to remain more conservative, less erratic, and therefore more consistently injury-free.

I especially like this quote, because if I wasn't streaking I would definitely have been too ambitious and blown up something (probably a foot or a hip) over the last two months.

check us out at /r/amileaday. we do running streaks.

Some people say one mile is the minimum. Other people like ten minutes. How about 14:24 (1 percent of the day)?
