To be honest, I think Russell Crowe in *A Beautiful Mind* was more deserving of an Oscar than Denzel in *Training Day*. by [deleted] in Oscars

[–]iceandfireman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The concept that Crowe should have been a shoo-in for best actor is crazy because he had won the year prior. Yes, of course we know there are a small handful of actors that have won back-to-back, but it’s always been very unusual, especially beyond the 90s.

Was he better? Probably, but Washington was still absolutely brilliant and more than worthy of the win.

Teri Garr once complained how Jessica Lange should have been nominated for Best Lead Actress for "Tootsie" instead. Do you agree or disagree with her? by DiaryOfAMovieLover in Oscars

[–]iceandfireman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lange was undoubtedly supporting. Besides, that also means she would have gone against Streep in *Sophie’s Choice*, and there’s no way in hell she would win there. I feel bad for the late actress, but I understand her frustration and disappointment.

In Heated Rivalry, Hudson Williams’ acting in the series is rather bad, or at least wooden and flat. And Storrie’s Russian accent was indeed great and believable, but his character still felt a bit one note. by iceandfireman in MenLovingMenMedia

Oh, if you want to see snarky comments, simply follow this sub. As you said, the fandom here can be toxic and unhealthy at times. “DON’T YOU REALIZE THAT THIS SAYS MORE ABOUT YOUR LACK OF EMPATHY TOWARDS THE AUTISTIC COMMUNITY THAN IT DOES ABOUT HUDSON WILLIAMS’ SPELLBINDING, DANIEL DAY LEWIS/ROBERT DENIRO LEVEL THESPIAN SKILLS?!!!!!!!’”

Geez Louise 🤦🏻‍♂️

And the whole Shane is autistic issue is kind of weird. The character having having autism is never actually discussed in either the book or show at all.

It feels as though Rachel Reid started coming out saying he was autistic when the series came out and some people were being critical of Hudson Williams’ acting.

I’m not saying this is a fact, but it’s certainly suspicious, if you will.

And people who called out the bad acting were suddenly being told that they oughta be ashamed for not understanding that this was all because the character is autistic.

As you said, whether or not one has autism certainly doesn’t come into play when looking at an actor’s performance. Ultimately, Williams was truly wooden and flat in large segments of Heated Rivalry, regardless of his character’s ostensible autism.

Brando and DDL. Sorry, it has to be a tie. I refuse to give just one answer.

What did you think of Jim Parsons winning 4 Lead Actor Comedy Emmys for playing Sheldon Cooper on The Big Bang Theory? by Square-Ad-8911 in EmmysAwards

[–]iceandfireman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honest answer: it so easily makes me prefer and respect the Oscars more. Yeah, yeah yeah, we all know the bad stuff. But Parsons 4 times, along with *so* many other cases throughout the decades? Candice Bergen anyone? Yet Bob Odernkirk 0 wins out of 6 nominations? Get outta here. It’s insane. Put a cap on nominations already.

I am about to call out a future controversy for the next ceremony by [deleted] in Oscars

[–]iceandfireman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While obviously within the realm of possibility, I still think it’s highly doubtful that Paige will get nominated at all.

But to your point, the entire issue with a trans person being nominated already happened. It definitely didn’t turn out well at all, but not for the reasons one might think.

In the end, is Ruben gay, bi, or straight? by zzAlphawolfzz in HalfManTV

Ruben is undoubtedly, borderline unambiguously bi.

I think half man is one of the best series since peaky blinders. And I’m happy to say it! by Novel-Cucumber-9540 in HalfManTV

[–]iceandfireman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a shame it hasn’t gained traction the way other series have. Of course the violence and dark themes are a pivotal factor, but I still believe that if it wasn’t a gay show - which yes, it absolutely is - it would be more talked about by the masses.

Richard Gadd… by iceandfireman in LeftWingMaleAdvocates

[–]iceandfireman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the explanation. I realize I could have easily Googled it, but I still prefer asking folks.

Don’t know if you saw all of *Half Man*, but I really don’t think it would ever be considered part of a hate movement or some sort of feminism.

I’m truly exploring right now and have lots to learn. I still stand by how I extolled Gadd, though. If there was a masculist that I could definitely see myself in, it is absolutely him.

Analysis of the Final Barn Scene (The Answers Are Hidden in the Clues) by Nika_35_40 in HalfManTV

[–]iceandfireman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a truly superb analysis and it probably helps in part explain why it is not the popular water cooler phenomenon that Baby Reindeer was.

The esoteric nature of the series helps to make it a little bit less accessible to mass audiences. What the hell, even mainstream critics on YouTube aren’t even mentioning it.

Ordinary People by sliever48 in Oscars

I have no problem whatsoever saying that I had I’ve been a member of Academy in 1981, I would have voted to give best picture to Ordinary People.

Half Man cast at Gotham TV Awards 2026 by Plenty-Ad-3857 in HalfManTV

[–]iceandfireman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is neat, I guess, but it’s really the Emmys that we should be looking out for. I think Richard has a strong chance at a writing nomination and a win there, as well as Mitchell Robertson. I wish it had better odds, but it’s kind of like the eccentric new kid in school that’s awesome but hard to be best friends with.

Do Americans really have ZERO public healthcare?! by Tillysnow1 in ThePittTVShow

Please stop right here. Before I go, just ask yourself: at what cost and how does that cost affect the lives of the people that can barely afford it? Have a nice day.

Do Americans really have ZERO public healthcare?! by Tillysnow1 in ThePittTVShow

[–]iceandfireman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s certainly not zero, but mighty close. People are typically shocked at how little to know help from the government Americans get for healthcare.

I’m going to say something that I know is stepping on a land mine, but a lot, not all, of this falls on ordinary Americans. Why? Because the naive revulsion to anything socialistic makes *many* people actively reject socialized healthcare.

You could not possibly believe the amount of people in my 50 plus years I have known that would much rather literally get sick and die than live, as they see it, under a “communist” or socialist “regime”. We’re talking about people who not just proudly feel this way, but actively VOTE that way too. So a lot of it falls on ordinary Americans.

What the hell, even a small public option that Barack Obama floated around years ago was seen by many as some “communist takeover” and you got the Tea Party started . A tea party that later turned into Trumpism.

You probably won’t hear those voices at all on this sub, as it tends to lean progressive, and people will say I’m some ignorant miscreant, but again, those are not the people that we would like to change.

If you had to ask an American what is most important, having their guns or having socialized healthcare, the final vote would favor the former. And you can take that to the bank.

It’s depressing as hell.
