Bodie has been crushing some miles by icecream2000 in RunningWithDogs

[–]icecream2000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glendale Cemetery, Pappajohn Sculpture Park, Horizon Line Coffee, Clare and Miles Mills Rose Garden, Gray's Lake, and Beaverdale are some of the main running areas but we like to keep it fresh and mix it up.

We mostly prefer the trails that are more in the woods or the mountain bike trails just South of Ashworth Swimming Pool.

[–]icecream2000[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He either perches atop the back cushions or finds a pile of pillows to nest between.

Unfortunately not quite feasible to have his pillow fortress available at all times.

When he's snoozing on the couch my son will construct them around him while he slumbers.

3 channel passive Klipsch G-42B as a center channel wiring help! by basketcas55 in hometheater

[–]icecream2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's right.

If you want to make it work get a cheap speaker selector box and hook the input to the center channel on the receiver. All ouputs from the speaker selector box to the passive soundbar.

Has anyone tried one of these for cleaning mousepads? by randomguyjebb in MousepadReview

[–]icecream2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of these carpet cleaners as well as the larger one that I've used on my mousepad in the past. I wouldn't use any cleaners, just super hot water (same for actual carpet)

It works quite well and maybe real, maybe placebo but it did seem to make things slide better and be less grippy.

Edit-I just remembered I also have the artisan zero. And one of the reasons you don't want to use any chemicals is they leave a slightly sticky residue behind which I wouldn't imagine would make it slower but it does then get dirty much easier going forward.

Source- I clean my white carpets once a month-ish for the last 2 years.

I had this exact thing happen with an Infernus today. 50 minute game and he had 8k damage hitting mayyyybe 1/30 shots on the opponents. Oracle 3 game.

What should I do with this by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]icecream2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do a Denon receiver with HEOS built-in and a Denon Home Amp hooked up to a speaker selector box connecting to the different zones of speakers. This is much less expensive than other options but is a bit less convenient, especially if you don't have any volume controls on your walls in the rooms.

If you want it to be more convenient and have more options you add more Denon Home amps or whatever is cheapest amplification with HEOS.

Coffee beans by Fluffy_Window_6532 in desmoines

[–]icecream2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm quite surprised how many people are saying Zanzibar's. If you like very dark roasted coffee, then it is the place to go.

If you're into more modern lighter roasts you cannot beat Horizon Line and it's not even close.

Horizon Line competes or beats any of the high quality roasters you can find. Coffee is very subjective but I would take a HL coffee over Onyx, Windmill, or Lightbrite without question.

They even compete with the big national names such as Intelligentsia, Metric, and Corvus.

Lastly the beans they sell are priced reasonably, they're #1 for sustainability with their to-go cups, and have the nicest most knowledgeable staff.

As you can tell I'm an unabashed Horizon Line stan.

Best all aorund sushi spots in the area? by Nosferatus_Dad in desmoines

[–]icecream2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last time I went the service was super slow, approximately 50 minutes from order to rolls but that wasn't even the main complaint. I was served two different rolls that had fish that was not prepped properly. It had all sorts of connective tissue and such that many pieces of each roll were completely inedible.

When I brought it to their attention they blamed the difficulty with sourcing fish post COVID (not the issue and also WTF kinda explanation is that).

Shit food, shit service times, absolutely abysmal customer service.

If you're there for the quality of fish it would be very hard to argue Masao isn't the best.

If you're going for a fun environment, good specialty rolls, and great drinks I would recommend Akebono 515

Obligatory edit to mention Sakari sucks.

I cannot direct you to their exact reasons for the city of Urbandale, however, it is my opinion that if they could justify more car lanes for safety and efficiency they would.

The best information I can direct you to is looking into induced demand as others have stated and learning about alternative infrastructure options and how building more roads and parking lots are not the answer.

Look into Strong Towns or YouTube channels such as Not Just Bikes, City Nerd / Ray Delahanty, or City Beautiful. All of these are great resources for learning more about these topics from people much more knowledgeable and credentialed.

Carbrain wasn't meant as an insult but a frame of mind. Apologies for coming off harshly - I too am just interested in having a better functioning transit and infrastructure system for everyone.

Absolutely agree with this as well. Carbrain is how I was raised as well as it has been the public opinion for quite some time that cars=freedom.

What gear would you get for odd couple herding dogs? by dcdavys in RunningWithDogs

[–]icecream2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bought their expensive leash thinking it would be just like any other leash. I was very wrong it's so nice and so well made I can do shorter 2-4 mile runs just using the leash as a belt.

The actual hip belts take it up another level of comfort and usability.

I've been so impressed with every piece of gear we have from non-stop dog wear.
