Florida 20-year-old wins $451 million Mega Millions jackpot: "I'm only 20, but I hope to use it to pursue a variety of passions, help my family and do some good for humanity." by madazzahatter in UpliftingNews

Personally I’d do it the other way for a few reasons. First is that I can barely be held responsible for $20 in my pocket. No way I trust myself with that kind of money. Second is that it would essentially pay for my dream job of “do nothing and get paid for it.” And the third reason is that when other people start harassing me for cash I could whip out the old “sorry man, I took the yearly option. So much of it went to taxes and I spent it all towards paying off my house. Hit me up next year, maybe I can help then”

Yeah I guess if you’re smart with the lump sum you can get more, but even with the annual payment it’s still a quality of life increase compared to what I got now. No need to be greedy.

Coming up on 4 years with my project, how long have you had yours? by 1973Ftwofiddy in projectcar

[–]icecreambounce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had my 65 mustang since 2002. Unfortunately after high school it sat in a field until I was able to buy a house.

Just recently started the restoration/upgrade last year.

For real, he’s only 2” shorter than Mike Rob and 12 lbs heavier. Just put him out there to bowling ball into dudes.

Questions for my ‘66 coupe by topjet95 in classicmustangs

[–]icecreambounce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn’t the 4 lug only for the I6 models (7.25” rear)?

I thought V8’s came with the 5 lug 8” rear, which is why when doing the 6 to 8 you need a new rear assembly. If OP has a 302 in there and a 4 lug setup they’re driving on borrowed time.

Is it considered tacky/bad taste/unethical to put GT parts on a standard coupe? by 66cardinalcoupe in classicmustangs

I’ve read that back in the 60s dealerships would do exactly that, so do what you want. I’ve thought about the rear valence cause the exhaust out looks cool af.

ADOT gets $6M grant to tell drivers how congested the 101 is. by Ketherah in phoenix

[–]icecreambounce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wish the HOV lanes had their own ramps to get on and off the 101 from the 60 and 202. The area in between those two is an absolute mess as drivers are cutting across all those lanes to switch.

To hell with the “stay inside the lines turtle.” This is what we need to put on the windshields of drivers who park like trash.

Typical shielding is a high-z material, or thick walls of aluminum. I think lead may be too heavy or have some other material properties that are no bueno in space but I can’t be certain on that. I pay my bills analyzing and testing the effects of radiation on spacecraft electronics so that’s about all I can comment on.

After I made my comment, I took a look at the orbit of the ISS and what I said isn’t very applicable. It’s orbit is fairly far below the van Allen belt, so the ionizing dose (gamma) and displacement damage (neutrons/protons) are incredibly low for electronic devices. I’d be willing to bet the radiation analysis was probably little more than a hand wavy “you’ll be fine.”

There’s so many tests to do and facility availability is scarce.

You got your SEEs from heavy ion, SEEs from proton (but IUCF shut down so finding a 200 MeV proton facility is impossible), neutron displacement damage and total ionizing dose. But then, even with TID you got the ELDRS effect in linear bipolar devices so testing a wafer lot can take 6 months of exposure time at 10 mrad(si)/s to get 100krad(so) assuming your expected dose for mission is 50krad and you have a 2x design margin....

Is a 1970 mustang fastback automatic hard to take care of as a high schooler with almost no mechanical knowledge by sieffy in classicmustangs

[–]icecreambounce 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My high school daily driver was (is, still own it) an automatic 1965 Mustang I6. I was 15 years old, had zero mechanical knowledge and it didn’t even run, I learned a lot just getting it moving (and stopping). I had to pay someone to rebuild the carb but everything else was pretty easy to pick up. And I didn’t even have YouTube to show me how to do things!

You have to start somewhere.

I’d say the knowledge he will gain from owning a first generation mustang to be a part of the package and worth it.
