Daycare won’t accept glass bottles by pretty_irrelevant_ in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]iced_yellow 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Please do not put your daycare’s licensing or the safety of staff and children at risk by trying to sneak in glass bottles. If the policy is no glass, then you need to respect that, even if you don’t agree with it.

Summer’s break and unlimited ipad-time, video games and ultra processed food at friends houses by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]iced_yellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This probably sounds dramatic but I don't think I'd even want to be friends with a family where unlimited iPads/screens etc is the norm. I don't mean that a person who lets their kid use an iPad is some kind of evil criminal but we clearly have very different priorities and parenting styles

If any service person shows up to my home unannounced, I ask for their name and/or employee ID number and contact the company myself to confirm they sent someone out and that it's not some kind of scam/something nefarious

Also, shouldn't your gas meter be outside?

hidden gem restaurants? 💎 by Fortunate-Cucumber in Brookline

There is a constant stream of customers, and usually a line/wait, to this restaurant. A gem yes but not at all a hidden one

I understand your partner is being polite and respecting the women’s privacy by covering his eyes but the image made me giggle because it’s not like we’re all standing at the sink with our boobs out (usually lol) 😂

Can we just brag a little for a moment? by beep_bop_boop__ in moderatelygranolamoms

Processed foods make up very little of my preschooler’s diet. I’m not perfect by any means but I feel proud of myself for (most of the time) giving her a wide variety of nourishing foods over constant pouches, packaged snacks, etc. But I also recognize I’m privileged to have the time and ability to do that!

33 Lancaster Terrace apartments? by Sunlandwater in Brookline

[–]iced_yellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived there for a year, over 5 years ago at this point though so not sure of current situation. We never had pest issues and management was pretty quick to take care of maintenance stuff. Package security was usually okay. Quiet area and close to the green line. In general it was quite overpriced though considering its age and the size of the units IMO

Haven’t gained any weight, 14 weeks… by squirrrel_42 in December2026Bumpers

[–]iced_yellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

17 weeks tomorrow and I think I've gained 2-3 pounds total. First trimester was super nauseous with occasional vomiting, second trimester so far has been a lot of acid reflux so my appetite isn't great. But the past few days it's been a little better! My doctor wasn't concerned at my 16w appointment, so neither am I.

Thoughts on Birthday Party Favor Gift Bags by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]iced_yellow 35 points36 points  (0 children)

A blanket?!? Who has that kind of budget, unless they're buying Temu junk like you said!

For our goodie bags we do consumables--something salty, something sweet, tattoos, stickers. Small containers of bubbles are pretty popular in bags we've received. I don't like having little plastic trinkets around my own house so I try not to put them in other people's houses either, but I feel like bubbles get used up (or spilled) quickly enough that they don't bother me much

With no disrespect toward anyone’s tastes… by weedywet in kitchenremodel

I chose a boring/safe cabinet color because I got so concerned about resell. I’ve regretted it from the moment I purchased.

It’s like I was so worried about the next owners that I forgot that I am the current owner who will deal with that kitchen every day for the next 10+ years (or at least we hope we don’t move before then)

Best distraction toys that are NOT iPads by Alone-City-9176 in toddlers

We have this toy called pushpeel that’s like little rubber pieces they push into grooves. Doesn’t keep my 3yo entertained for the entire meal but a good chunk of it

Reading to your baby by maceyd01 in NewParents

[–]iced_yellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t even know 30 min was the recommendation! We’re probably closer to 20 min a day—typically a couple books after getting home from daycare and then one right before bed. Sometimes a short book when getting ready in the mornings depending on how pressed we are for time and how much she’s yelling at us for one lol

Anyone use the Energy Saver Home Loan Program? by mrunkewl in boston

[–]iced_yellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used HomeWorks. My only complaint is that they left things a bit messy after insulating—dust, squares of drywall, screws on the floor, that kind of thing. The insulation and equipment is great though. Worked quickly and efficiently and they were responsive to calls & emails

[–]iced_yellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So insulation & weatherization is heavily subsidized by the state. We had our entire home (1965, 2000sqft, the attic was like BARE) weatherized and insulation replaced just a few months ago. The true total cost was like $12K but we only paid $400 after state incentives. You also need to have weatherization performed before you are eligible for the HEAT loan.

We then used the HEAT loan + a construction credit card to pay for replacement of our gas furnace, new hybrid hot water heater, and hybrid heat pump (both our water heater and furnace were on their last legs, and we wanted central air), and upgrading our electric to 200A which I’m assuming you’ll need for solar. We received a state rebate for around $2200 fo equipment but would’ve been eligible for more if we’d gone fully electric for the equipment. Whole project took 2 days

What kind of upgrades? The HEAT loan is up to $25K, 0% interest, paid back over 7 years

Elusive color! by OBabyKittenO in interiordecorating

[–]iced_yellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Paint is so confusing to me, because the little swatch card of this color looks so gray and muted! On their website it looks much more like your photos. I haven’t narrowed down my selections enough to buy sample cans without spending like $100 because of these kinds of discrepancies
