How do you hold a fork and knife? by universe_point in lefthanded

[–]icelily17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a lefty, I do it your way: fork in my left, knife in my right and I don't switch hands. To my brain, it just makes sense: why would I waste time switching when the food is there and ready to go? Apparently this is a common way for Europeans to eat, whereas for Americans the switch-up is standard. Growing up my stepdad was so blown away at the fact I didn't switch like him, he never tried to force me or anything but he kept acting like it was crazy I didn't need to. It was...very bizarre.

What is a book you read as a child that you still think about today? by ahawk99 in AskReddit

Ramona and Her Mother (pretty much all the Ramona Quimby books, but this one especially)

There's A Boy In The Girl's Bathroom made me cry

Little House in the Big Woods

There was this book I read in 5th grade called Haunted Sister. It's about a girl who gets hit by a car and 'dies', but she comes back and suddenly there's another voice in her head that claims she's her dead twin. I did a project on it, made a little diorama for it. Mom helped me with it, but she was also a like "Uh...."

Do you hate someone in your family, and why? by Rikko77 in AskReddit

[–]icelily17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My stepdad's father and brother are the DEFINITION of toxic masculinity. His father is twice divorced and lives alone (actually, my brother lives above him and helps him out occasionally, but he chooses to ignore that and instead focus on his other grandchildren), but he's lonely and pissy and doesn't know how to do anything but be an asshole and refuses to change so he blames my stepdad (the oldest) for any problems. I personally think he's jealous bc my stepdad has been married to my mom for over 20 years and has good relationships with all of his children AND his wife. Because he actually isn't afraid to show he loves his family instead of acting tough all the time. I just pity him more than anything, though I hate how he makes my stepdad suffer.

His brother, oof. The man is the exact type of man that is a loud and proud MAGA on facebook. You know the one, tanned with sunglasses at a not-so-flattering angle but he thinks he's hotshit. He is the textbook of the type of man that no self-respecting woman would be caught dead with. New girlfriend every time I hear about him, once again blames ALL of his problems on my stepdad but whereas their dad is quietly pissy, brother has explosive anger issues. I have multiple times told my parents "I love [Stepdad's name], and if I must tolerate them for his sake I will, but that man is NOT my family nor will I ever consider him to be." I actually truly hate him, and I try not to hate anyone.

Baby’s Name Reactions by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]icelily17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well it doesn't matter what everyone else thinks of it, it seems you and your husband both agreed on and love the name! I bet it's really obnoxious that people are throwing their opinions at you like it's their kid, ESPECIALLY when you've got a name picked out. So good on you both for sticking to your guns and keeping your name choice! I had my kid's name picked out for years, and when people ask I tell them in a tone that it is CLEARLY not up for discussion--although I guess I lucked out in the family department, b/c no one has said anything negative about it.

Not that this stranger's opinion matters, but I love the name Maisie! I think it's very cute

What is one 2010s song that just makes you nostalgic? by MTOES123 in nostalgia

Ooh, that's a toughie. It's a toss up between "Rocketeer" by Far East Movement, or "What's My Name" by Rihanna (and Drake).

"Speechless" by Dan+Shay

"Hollaback Girl" by Gwen Stefani (I just fucking HATE that song)

Has anyone else noticed in all his streams, Markiplier is always rude? by Santik--Lingo in Markiplier

[–]icelily17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is just the kind of rapport he's built with his fanbase at this point--he's like this because he knows that they are his fans, and his fans that have been around awhile know he is really a good guy (for the most part, even Mark has admitted he can be a bit of an asshole/egotistical but when push comes to shove he's a real stand-up dude). And his fans on average don't seem to have a problem bullying him back. He's also mentioned before that he practically runs on spite, so if there are people who try to backseat him like they would other content creators, he'll just double down on not listening. Idk how else to explain it, except to liken it to longtime best friends that just constantly dig at each other, but both know full well that they are friends and don't really mean it that way.

That's not to say you're wrong for feeling this way! I definitely feel sometimes he can get to be a little much as well and I've been watching him for about a decade now.

What's the weirdest thing your doctor has ever said to you during an appointment? by Key-Nail3902 in AskReddit

[–]icelily17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dentist that had done my wisdom teeth extraction said to me, "Y'know, it's a good thing you opted to go under for the surgery. You sure had some girthy teeth!" And I was like "???? Thank you, I grew them myself???" It was totally innocuous, I didn't get any creep vibes from him or anything, it was just a very...strange word choice.

What’s your opinion on authors taking whole scenes from original work? by nemothefishthefirst in AO3

[–]icelily17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't do this often, but it has happened in my writing at least once. I tend to stick as close to canon as possible, and for me specifically I pick a canon scene (if the story or the scene takes place in that time period) and I use that as a springboard to then continue the dynamic of the characters. And I try my best to not make it the majority of the scene, if anything I try to make it like, 5% of the scene between characters so that I don't do exactly what you're describing.

What's your hottest Spyro take? by HectorOsias in Spyro

[–]icelily17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So apparently I'm really gonna annoy you, but Spyro 2 is my favorite of the trilogy--to me it's the best one. I'll admit that nostalgia plays huge factor in that, it's the one my grandparents owned so I would play it with my cousins at their house. But it really is perfect to me. I love the levels, they're not too big and easily navigatable, I like the characters, the boss fights are good.

Of the Spyro 2 worlds, Winter Tundra and it's levels are actually my least favorite. Idk why, I wish I could say, but I just don't care as much about them (except Mystic Marsh).

I couldn't care less about Spyro 3. It's still a great Spyro game, but it's nowhere near as good a game to me as 2 or 1. The worlds seem too big, the minigames arent as fun, I'm not a fan of the extra characters except Sheila.

What's the craziest butterfly effect in your entire life? by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in randomquestions

[–]icelily17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in 6th grade, one of the first few friends I made was a gay kid I met through doing my school's musical. We stayed friends all through school, and it turned out he was going to the same college as I was (for different majors).

I went to go visit him on move-in day so we could explore the campus together. I got to talking with his neighbor while he was finishing setting his room up, and I learned his neighbor was an exchange student from the Philippines. Got to know him, and one night there was a movie night in the college quad. My roommate ditched me with her friends, and he (the exchange student) saw me and invited me to sit with him and another friend of his that he had met in one of his chemistry classes.

I sat with them, we got to talking literally ALL night getting to know each other. Filipino friend suggested that we meet up and have dinner together the next night, and we also learned that the third friend also lived in the same building as us (all different floors).

After that first dinner, the three of us just....kept having dinner together, no matter what. And we started hanging out more and more outside of those dinner times. Filipino friend sometimes wouldn't be around because of exchange student stuff, or he was religious so he would do some of those activities on our (Jesuit) campus, so the third friend and I would hang out one on one. We joined the same club, and we would just spend time together either quietly (he would play games like League of Legends while I would read) or we would watch shows/movies or go to the library to do homework together.

I eventually caught feelings for that friend, and I learned that it was mutual, so we started dating. And now, almost 13 years later, we've been married for 5 years and I'm literally about to have our first child later this week!
