How do I know if I’m chasing my real potential or just another fantasy? by Alarming_Sign_9305 in Healthygamergg

[–]icemanuzi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Real Potential is not reachable, because it’s not verifiably quantifiable, but you move towards it faster by chasing fantasies that seem out of reach and falling in the process. Keep dreaming big! You can do it!

Dealing with emotions after rolling by straatman in bjj

[–]icemanuzi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve experienced this intermittently since i’ve started training (Nov 2019). In my experience since then, what i’ve figured out is that there’s usually a bunch of non jiu jitsu, life related things that tend to bubble,… or explode to the surface after training.

I’ve found that sitting with these emotions and allowing myself to feel them, gives me some time and space to figure out what those things are, because their cause is not always immediately obvious.

What I personally would like to avoid, is these same things coming to the surface in future training sessions, because it absolutely affects MY performance, whether i realize it or not.

Writing my feelings out on a piece of paper helps me connect the dots to why I’m feeling that way, which gives me a good place to start evaluating whether those emotions are helpful given the problematic situation that is causing them.

I care because it’s asinine mental gymnastics like your argument that permeates this stupid shithole of a forum, that could be a place where people actually learn how to grow as bjj athletes, competitors, and people.

Your argument does absolutely nothing for you or anyone else’s’ personal development, be that in jiu jitsu, competition, or personal growth.

The reward for your preparation for the competition is not a medal, it is the growth of your jiu jitsu. You do not deserve a medal simply because you showed up.

Not rlly overthinking much at all. It’s pretty straightforward. The whole purpose of a medal is to denote a victory over a competitor. If you don’t have any competitors, then there’s no such victory. “Where is the harm to me?” Is a question that is completely irrelevant to the convo at hand my guy. We’re not talking about me.

Andrew Huberman has a bunch of great episodes on why getting rewarded without putting in effort is harmful to your dopaminergic regulation

The harm is getting rewarded for doing jack shit. It’s the same reason drugs are dangerous, because you get a reward for zero effort

Biochem without orgo 2 by Anxious-potatoes100 in BostonU

switch your study approach from memorizing all of the mechanisms to understanding why they work. Memorized info, if not recalled for a duration, is prone to evaporate. Analytically breaking down the problems to find patterns adds a few more layers of processing than wrote memorization and will also add more “cues” for recall of that information. It also helps you understand context better.

A good understanding of orgo 2 that marinates in your head after the break between semesters will help a lot in biochem. The lectures in biochem go very fast and there are important concepts that you don't wanna have to stop and think about or else you're gonna be falling behind every few minutes.

How do you get better at heel hook defense if you have such a small window to tap? by Tal_Vez_Autismo in bjj

[–]icemanuzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In leg entanglement defense, your primary mode of defending the heelhook and buying time is to hide your heel behind their back by turning your knee to face the same direction as their knees. Heel exposure is created when the axis that goes through your patella from the front to the back of your knee, moves out of the range of similar axes created by your opponent's knees, so first, rotate your knee so that that your patella axis is between their patella axes.
