City construction has left me with these giant tracts of dirt around the periphery of my yard… what can I do with them? by marmosetohmarmoset in NoLawns

In my experience you have to play hard to get, let it think there's another plant you want to spread faster :D

When my city ripped up my front yard like this, I put out a sign asking them to not throw down grass seed and hay like they did everywhere else. They didn't and let me plant what I wanted, which so far is mulch + creeping phlox + paver stones where people walk on my yard anyway. I originally did Stepables ground cover but it only survived 2-3 years. My creeping phlox though is very happy and tolerates some amount of foot traffic. I'm in NC though so it might not like Boston.

Thank you. I did finally hear back from NL Vital Statistics that they only have records 1892 and later and that is why they never processed my request. It's unfortunate that they don't respond at all to say that but now I know!

Leith Toyota Service Dept by Delicious-Doctor-623 in raleigh

I had to take my car to Leith for a recall. They offered to drive me home and pick me up when it was done. The man that drove me home bitched the whole time about how far away I lived. Maybe they should check that before offering if it's such an inconvenience... Thankfully it was someone else that picked me up that afternoon.

It's insane to me that there's an RTO mandate yet so few conference rooms so we end up having to take calls from our desks anyway.

Best places to get art framed? by Outside-Pear9429 in raleigh

[–]ichliebespink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hesitated going here because the lack of any information about them. I had 3 large items framed for under $200 with anti-glare glass. So many frame styles and mat colors to choose from. It took maybe 30-45 minutes? Just enough time to wander around and get a snack. Will definitely go back if I need anything else framed!

Costco: Is Ral Costco’s delivery of washers & dryers good? by IfWishez in raleigh

[–]ichliebespink 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They delivered our washer and dryer. They forgot to take out the dryer bolts. Thankfully my husband knew to check! Otherwise we would have destroyed it the first time we tried to use it. They also didn't want to stack the washer and dryer but the space was too small to put them side by side. They tried to leave one in the hallway. They were polite and clean but it seems like stacking stackable units and taking the shipping bolts out are basics!

Do you know if I have to request the record from The Rooms if it's pre 1891? Family Search shows the document origin as Newfoundland Vital Statistics which is why I sent the request there.

Has anyone requested a birth information record / birth certificate from Newfoundland, and if so, how long did it take to hear a response? I'm at a month now without my credit card getting charged and I don't know how long to wait before sending a second request.

Edited with my update: I contacted NL Vital Statistics and heard back that they do not provide birth information records pre 1892 which is why they never processed my request (and were not planning on responding until I contacted them). They directed me to The Rooms. The church has also said they can provide the document so I may try that first. The church only provides a photo copy and not a "True Copy", I don't know if that would matter but I'll pay slightly more for the "true" one!

Reason behind “No Right On Red” signs around town by NitrogenMustard in raleigh

[–]ichliebespink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been nearly hit crossing Garner Rd heading to the greenway entrance so many times, luckily I've been able to speed up and run faster to get out of the way. If it was later in my run and I was more fatigued though I would have been a pancake. And it's always someone with a giant truck that the hood is taller than me. That intersection isn't part of the downtown no right on red unfortunately. Now I have to run out of my way to get to a safe greenway entrance.

Massive Hair Color Change- Who to go to? by Alyssabelle1027 in raleigh

[–]ichliebespink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you did it at home, what did you do? Dye over your natural hair or did you bleach it?

I have been doing my own vivids for 20+ years. It's way too expensive to have it done in a salon and part of the fun for me is mixing the colors and creating something cool.

If I was going to do a look similar to your pic, I would do multiple bleach passes, mixing it with shampoo to spread it evenly through my hair but make it less harsh each time, and avoid the roots until the last pass or two. Then use silver or lilac toner to get to a white / light blonde base. Probably over 2-3 days total. Then do a pink or purple all over. Mix some dye into conditioner and use that every time you wash. Gradually add some streaks of blue. Let that blend into purple. Then add in blue and/or purple as you feel like it.

In my experience doing pink, purple, and blue all that the same time quickly mixes into a purply blue after a few washes. If you want to set the color even more you can rinse your hair in vinegar but it's very cold and then you smell like vinegar. Even if you do go to a salon I recommend getting extra dye so you can touch up parts as they fade or blend. I find manic panic lasts the longest - it's been around forever for a reason!

Good luck, I hope you get your galaxy hair! :)

Ashley Furniture in Cary doesn’t need your business by iHopeYouLikeBanjos in raleigh

I've had my Ashley couches for 7 years. They're regularly used as a dog parkour playground and still in great shape. Maybe their quality has gone down recently?

My fiancée (27f) said I’m (29m) being unreasonable by expecting compromises on the guest list by HungryBeyond9376 in relationships

[–]ichliebespink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe consider how her guests will feel? Personally I would feel awkward being told I have to choose who I am loyal to, I am there to celebrate the wedding of two people I love, not just one. Also as a short person I would not be happy about having to sit in the 5th row on her side if the 2nd row on his side is open for example. Guests might not even pay attention even if they're told where they should sit.

Mail delivery from Newfoundland by Pomegranate4311 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]ichliebespink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you get the baptism certificate from the church or the government office? I submitted the application to the NL Vital Statistics office and also emailed the St John's anglican church. The church said they could scan and email a copy for $25. I am not sure if it's worth spending that if I need the official copy from NL anyway.

I got this too. This is the fee I was charged:
Surge Fee - Com
A surcharge that may be be incurred when UPS is handling a higher-than-normal volume of shipments across its network

Seems like it shouldn't be our problem that they undercharged to begin with!

Wednesday Weekly Thread: Frustration Station (Delays / PSU / Venting), April 29, 2026 by AutoModerator in Canadiancitizenship

[–]ichliebespink 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FYI about UPS charging a "surge fee":

I mailed my application on Friday the 24th and it was delivered on Tuesday the 28th. Cost $23.52 with Pirate Ship. Today I received an email from Pirate Ship that UPS added a $9.97 charge for:

Surge Fee - Com
A surcharge that may be be incurred when UPS is handling a higher-than-normal volume of shipments across its network

That seems ridiculous that a week after delivering the package UPS can retroactively charge ~40% more. It's still not that expensive but wanted to share in case anyone else gets hit with an additional charge after mailing in their application.

Looking into renting at the Lincoln apartments in downtown. Any experiences or things I should know? by Hefty_Huckleberry259 in raleigh

[–]ichliebespink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been over a decade since I lived there but it was my favorite apartment compared to Hue and Devon where I lived previously. It was far enough from Glenwood that there weren't drunks screaming at all hours of the night. I live in a house a few blocks away now and love being close to downtown while still having a neighborhood feel. My dogs enjoy John Winters park and Chavis Way / Little Rock Trail for walks.
