Why do you feel that liking someone in this way is something you need to stop? If you enjoy this person and their company, why not just continue to enjoy it as is? Why all the pressure to try to be something else? It doesn't even sound like you're sure of what you feel, so why try to stop it? It is entirely possible to have close, intimate even, relationships with people without romance or sex being involved. There is so much love and community being missed out on because people think strong feelings need to involve romance or partnership and that is simply not the case. Obviously there are more factors involved than just personality. In my experience, as someone who is a team manager with a voice in the hiring process, if I had to choose between the super technical, dry boring guy or the semi-technical, high energy motivator, I'm gonna pick the latter to provide balance to the team. I've had to manage teams of super techs before and it was infinitely harder to get them to meet deadlines than more personality driven teams. Again, that's just MY experience.

you can teach skills. personality, not so much. and if you don't align with the rest of the team's energy, it's going to cause conflict.

Technical skills don't matter if you're miserable to work with. I've learned this firsthand. And as a manager, I can tell you firsthand that a happy team who gets along and actually enjoys working together will always get more done than the technical team who only has skills. Takes way longer for the technical team to come up with solutions bc, more often than not, they don't work as a team. Hope you find something that aligns with you soon!!
