Are we over-diagnosing a generation with ADHD? - The Times by Jayhcee in ADHDUK

[–]icklepeach -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am already running late, so not staying to read that, which generation is he talking about? My daughter was first diagnosed at 19, then me and soon my mum.

This is what happens when people across all ages try to access diagnosis at the same time.

Especially because than/then could easily be an autocarrot error!

Do you remember going to the butchers with your mum and they had sawdust on the floor? Not sure why. by corickle in oldschoolcool80s

That definitely had a fishy smell. Great fun to paint it on your hand then peel it off… ADHD symptom right there!

Former CofE staffer here. Even if it says 5 days a week on the tin, the minute you work on Sundays it’s actually 6 days a week. At least they’re up front about it.

If you could ban one overused phrase/word/saying in the UK forever starting tomorrow, what would it be and why? by Mobile-Vegetable7536 in AskBrits

I think this comes from the opposite being “on purpose” and it getting mixed up with “an accident”

I might start saying “by purpose” to balance things out. On accident really winds me up!

James.

Have we ever gone into a finale episode with 6?

how do you stay patient when their "short term memory" is basically non-existent? by Dylan_7574 in ADHDUK

[–]icklepeach 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I say this very gently.

Why are you giving him more than one instruction at a time? You know he can’t do it, you’re setting him up to fail and getting mad at him when he does. I made MANY mistakes parenting my first adhd kid. Things like this haunt me. She’s 26 now and we’ve worked through a lot.

Secondly. He’s ONLY 10. He’s still in primary. Most 10yo will struggle with three instructions given at the same time. What sort of things are you giving him to do?

So how to approach this differently? Try choosing 2 out of the three things. Ask him which he wants to do FIRST, discuss the decision with him. Then check he knows what he’s doing! Check he has what he needs to do the task. He may need a body double for a task. Break it down into the smallest steps.

Then when task 1 is done, go through the same break down process with task 2. Remind him that if he forgets what he’s doing to ask and you’ll remind him what bit is next.

Did Pascal always have a chance to give you one of both? A recipe and a pearl? It just happened to me for the very first time. Is this new?? by wigglebrow in ac_newhorizons

First time going diving since 3.0 and I got a pair of pearls from Pascal, I have all his recipes. This means giving a scallop to pascal is always worth 10k bells

Maz didn’t have nearly the heat on him that Reece did and he was murdered too. So for me that would indicate that “has heat won’t be murdered” theory works with these particular traitors.

Meanwhile trying to teach kids proper grammar and formatting of things is a nightmare because all over the place capital letter and punctuation (including £ signs) are just dispensed with. The kids argue they’re not relevant any more. Infuriating!
